'Whispers in the Wind'
Will stood in the heart of Sherwood forest and stared out at the river. It had been seven weeks since he had heard her voice, eight since he'd felt her arms around her, but he could clearly remember the way she stared into the night sky, could still feel the way her breath felt against his cheek when she whispered secrets in the dark.
"Why did you have to run off and become a lady?" he cried into the wind. "Who cares that the king gave us all our pardons? I thought you said you loved me. I thought you called this forest home."
Will Scarlet wiped a tears away as it rolled down his cheek.
Slowly he allowed the sounds of Sherwood calm his nerves. The sounds of the birds, wind, and that soft, indescribable sound the water made as it worked it's way south, overtook him. Over welling his senses, but he still thought of her.
"Did my brother charm you so? Were Robin's words more meaningful than mine?"
Maybe he'd never told her how he felt, but shouldn't she know? Hadn't he given her flowers when he asked her to dance? The time Robin took her away from him, claiming the lady was taken.
If only he had cut in when she took Robin's hand, when she sat with him in the window, thinking none could see. If only he'd spoken up at the wedding.
"I loved you Merian and that will never change." he swore into the wind as he picked up his brother's bow and fired an arrow into the forest.
Never to be seen or heard of again. Just like his love for her, the arrow will never be found out.
