No one understands why Abby hates Ziva. Abby doesn't really think she understands herself.

She tells Tony that it's because Ziva's trying to replace Kate (Abby knows that's a lie, but Tony doesn't).

She tells Timmy it's because Ari killed Kate (but she knows that has nothing to do with Ziva).

She tells Ducky it's because she was trying to clear Ari Haswari's name when she had no case for his innocence (but, then again, NCIS had no case for his guiltiness either).

But that's not it, any of it. So Abby sits down at Gibbs' table and cuts into her steak, holding an almost empty bottle of wine, and her speech is slurred and her black hair a mess, and she starts to explain.

It's not that Ziva's done anything wrong. It's not her fault Kate died, Ziva didn't pull the trigger. It's just…she hesitates here, takes another sip and looks at Gibbs, who's watching her and chewing his steak rhythmically.

It's just Abby can't afford to let herself get attached to someone else, not if they go the same way as Kate.

She just can't afford to love Ziva.
