A/N: I'm not going to talk about 4x04 here. It's pretty much summed up in the test I got from a friend after we watched it together - "I'm just sitting on my bed shaking :("

So anyway, I wrote this.

(And I private want to just point out that at least all the versions of Klaine break-ups that I've been writing recently were nice and clean and obvious. This real one has just left everything up in the air.)

Waiting, Hoping
by padfoot

...

It was more than an hour after Finn had gone that Blaine finally began to stir.

He'd slept restlessly. Kurt had felt him tossing all night, as he too lay awake, still and staring into the darkness. Feeling a vicious sort of satisfaction that Blaine was losing sleep too.

Kurt stayed in his chair as he listened to the creak of his bed, the whisper of Blaine's bare feet on the floor. Silence, silence, silence as Blaine stood there, on the other side of the curtain. Too much of a coward to step through it and face what he'd done.

Courage.

But that meant nothing now - not to Kurt, not from Blaine.

Courage was facing up to Karofsky. Courage was singing what was in his heart to a room full of hostility. Courage was loving someone so much, so wholly, so hard, that nothing else mattered.

And yet, there Blaine was, cowering behind a curtain, too scared to face what he'd done. And there Kurt was, waiting on the other side. Hoping.

Exactly the same as before.

Kurt sitting there alone, wasting his life, waiting for Blaine to come through for him.
