"Perhaps you should get some rest yourself, old friend," Optimus's baritone voice suggested, while he and Arcee waited to warm back up to a moderate temperature. "You saved quite a few lives today."
Ratchet let a rare smile show. "It wasn't all my doing," he replied, watching the kids, if anything, with a certain type of fondness only a surrogote parent (or someone close to) could have. "We were just fortunate that this infestation happened...on a Saturday."
"Our human friends may be small, but they are strong," the Prime seemed to confirm with a nod.
Optimus's statement was made ironic by a loud girlish shriek from a certain fifteen-year-old Japanese exchange student.
"Scraplet?" Jack needed to know, alarmed and armed with a pipe.
Rafael stood at the ready beside him, crow bar in hand.
"Spider!" She bagan what looked like some sort of demented dance in an effort to get the supposed spider off her. "Is it on me?!" was part of her less-than-coherent rant. She proceeded to run down the hall, still shrieking and dancing.
Rafael, Jack and three other bots stared after her, some surprised, some amused.
"Did she just scream like a little girl?" Bulkhead wondered aloud.
Two silver and blue heads almost imperceptebly nodded in agreement.
About two seconds later, everyone continued what ever they had been doing before Miko's little episode.
Until Raf piped up twenty minutes later, interrupting the quiet beep beep beeps, "Hey! I never got my snowball."
Optimus was about to respond, but Ratchet, usual crankiness level restored, held up a hand. "I'll handle this."
The medic walked to the groundbridge controls and pulled the lever. A split second later, the familiar glowing, swirling, green tunnel was seen.
"Leave it open. I won't take that long," Ratchet commanded and stomped in.
All except Miko (whose arachniphobia-caused screams could still be heard from down the hall) stared after him. (They seemed to be in a staring-ish sort of mood, that day. Hmm. Must have been the scraplet attack.)
Ten minutes later, snowballs began rolling through the groundbridge.
Raf lit up and ran toward the first that came through.
He dug his fingers in deep, nevermind the cold.
Snow.
That's what he was touching.
Snow!
One by one by one, perfect white spheres came through.
Out of curiosity, Jack wondered over and picked a piece off.
. . .
Beepbeepbeep.
"Arcee, you're back up to normal temperatures."
"About time."
Beepbeepbeep.
"So are you, Optimus."
"Thank you, Ratchet."
Splat!
"Jack!"
"Not my fault! It slipped!"
. . .
Eeh. It could have been way better, but I was too lazy to let the corniness factor go. :/ Oh well. Poll on my profile, please go see.
