I know I should be working on 'Plan: Avenge Percy' but this idea for a one-shot was starting to bug me and I just had to write it. I kind of got bored of the idea of Persephone being the bad guy, girl, whatever. so anyway I wanted to do a fiction to explain how I think she feels. Don't Own PJO or HOO. Enjoy!
Persephone doesn't hate Nico, she just hates the fact he is a son of her husband. It wasn't the fact that Hades cheated on her with another woman that riled her up anyway. As much as she tried to keep him to herself back in ancient times, she understands he gets lonely with her only around for half the year. No what riles her up is the fact she had no immortal children or really no child at all with Hades. Mortals put up these ridiculous story of the furies being Hades and her children but as much a she wishes for a child, they are not her children.
She likes flower as they are dependent on other forces to nurture them and she always wanted to nurture a child, sit there as it says its first words, comfort it after a nightmare and watch the child grow. The fact that she has another child of her husband in the house yet none of her own bothers her. Even so she can't adopt the boy, as whenever they talk it ends in a shouting match, an argument or a very Nico like flower. She hates it.
Persephone sometimes watches as her stepmother and Amphitrite complain about their husbands cheating on them and think, 'Well at leased you have children with your husband'. And what makes the whole thing worst is Hera. She doesn't just not like Hera because of the fact that she sometimes glares at her for being another of her husbands unfaithful "products" but the fact that Hera gets children and treats them like she does, when all Persephone ever wanted was a child, that just rubs her the wrong way.
She also loves Hades, he is probably the most faithful out of the big three and yet has so many more reasons to cheat on her, so many more than his brothers do to cheat on their wives. She watched the relationship of Hades and Maria Di Angelo. She watches Bianca and Nico grow and how Hades tries to be the best father for them, how he put himself in so much pain making them forget what he was to them, and yearns even more for children so she too could experience that side of her husband. She watched as the children are taken out of the Lotus Casio and put in a school close to Camp Half-blood so that they are picked up quickly. She watches as Hades brightens a bit when his daughter is made immortal and then darkens when she dies. She watches as he puts so many expectations on his son, not so he himself get recognised for having a child who saved them, not so he could brag to his brothers but rather so Nico gets recognised, so he gets excepted. She can't help but love her husband and how good of a father he is, even if he doesn't always show that he cares. Even if most people can't see it, she can and she yearns for a child of her own with him.
So no, Persephone doesn't hate Nico, She just kind of wishes she was Nico's mother.
