274. When Dick was Robin, he always religiously checked every line that he and Batman used twice before they left on patrol. When he was away with the Titans, he made Bruce promise to do it in his stead. Bruce kept it up even after he fired Dick and passed on the routine to every new member of the family. Even Jason still does it, though he claims this is only because if he didn't, Dick would break in every night to do it for him. Dick has been known to do this before.

"Dick?" Jason is exhausted, he and Roy had been in town all of, Jason glanced at the clock, five hours, and his brother had already found them. "Sorry Jaybird I didn't mean to wake you." Dick says. Jason has to admit that he does generally look sorry. "Can I ask why you're in my apartment?" Jason ask sitting in his on his couch running a hand through his onyx hair. Dick grins; he forgot how adorable Jason could be when he was exhausted. "Just doing some checking on," Dick says with a quick, sheepish grin. Jason raises his eyebrow and then sighs as he notices the line in Dick's hand. "Still checking lines I see." Jason mutters. Dick has the grace to blush.

Dick really couldn't help it, ever since watching his parents fall he had an almost OCD need to check lines. When he was Robin he checked his and Batman's lines three times each. When he became Nightwing he would sneak into the batcave and check the lines bor both batman and later the new Robins each night. When Jason had returned from the grave he had caught Dick breaking into his apartment more than once to check the lines. They may not like each other but that didn't mean Dick wanted him dead. When Damien had become Robin and Tim had moved out Jason knew that Tim had caught him breaking in and doing it. Tim had called Jason whining about it, "He broke in Jay! He was checking my lines like I'm not old enough to do it! I'm not his Robin, he fired me," Tim had whined, "Stuff it replacement," Jason had cut him off quickly. That had startled Tim. "This is one of the things Dick needs to do. Let him do it, it doesn't have anything to do with you, it has to do with him. It's easiest if you just schedule a time that he can come over and check otherwise you get the breaking in. And by damn boy, you better be checking your lines cause if he finds even the slightest tear he starts fretting about them all and you have to start all over. Just let him do it." Jason had told his younger brother. "Does he check your lines?" Tim had asked timidly. "Every night, just let him do it Tim. He needs to know."

"Jaybird, go back to bed. I'll leave quietly and will lock up." Dick said looking at his brother whose head was nodding up and down. Jason sighed and stood up. "Alright, you know how to get out," Jason said getting up and moving to his bedroom. Jason paused in the doorway looking back at his older brother, "Hey Dick, thanks for making sure everything is safe." "Always Little Wing." Dick said smiling going back over the line in his hand for a third time as Jason moved into the bedroom. It was the least Dick could do to avoid ever seeing someone fall again.
