The title is taken from one of courses I took. What I think about this course is exactly the same as what An thinks here. That is when I came up with this idea, involving the cuteness of KiriAn *_*

Heat and Matter

"I don't get it." An said exasperately.

It was another chilly day in autumn. The city park wasn't as crowded as it was in summer, so Akaya and An decided to meet up there and discussed some materials for exam. It happened to be one class that the two despised, thus it could be concluded that they just wanted to share their togetherness.

Nonetheless, Akaya was semi-serious this time. He was tired of attending remedial class, apparently. Besides, he was with An and crimson trees, two examples of beauty.

"Get what?" Akaya looked down at the book on An's lap.

"This freaking exercise. Why the heck do we have to count how much water that loss in a pool in the afternoon? Or how many joules does it take to heat lemonade? All these questions are silly and irrational."

Akaya was bewildered. An sure talked fast when she got irate. "Err.. For example?"

"Oh, c'mon, Akaya. Who knows exactly the amount of water that evaporates? Does water in a pool really decrease due to the heat? There must be some swimmers who pee there, and stabilize the volume." An ranted. "And what about this; you don't measure the calories when you eat those sweets, right? And wonder what's inside your fruit punch when the ice cube is melting?"

An did look gorgeous even when she got mad. Indeed, Akaya enjoyed staring at her figure with eyebrows knitted and lips pouted. He laughed, "An, this is so not you."

"Whatever, I hate physics." She simply replied.

Just then, something struck him like a comet. A science TV program he accidentally watched last weekend—because he was bored and didn't have money to go to arcade—inspired him. Akaya stood and positioned himself in front of her. He swayed his hand, directing the air to pass by them and making An huddled to her scarf closer.

"I don't like it, too." He stated. "But sometimes it gives you benefit."

"Stove, fireplace, I know. What's the matter?" An interrupted aimlessly.

"Nn," Akaya moved his point finger back and forth. "Physics makes me eat lots of sweets."

The grin on Akaya's face remained there until he began again. "You know what? Our body temperature is nearly constant although the surrounding is cold. That because I get some energy from sugar I eat. See? I resist cold better than you."

An rubbed her arms. He was true. She then cupped her chin and intently stared at him. She was interested.

"According to a law—" from this point Akaya almost failed to show his prowess. He couldn't recall, "—what's that name? Something begins with B..."

"Black's principle."

"That." He pointed out, somewhat feeling a little embarrassed. "So, you've known this, right?"

"If I'm not mistaken, energy is transferred from high temperature to low temperature whatnot."

"Nah," Akaya crossed his arms. "Ninety percent of our energy is used to maintain our body temperature, so that the heat from our system is not lost to the outside."

An gasped an 'oooh' and nodded in understanding. "I get it. Does it mean you're gonna treat me some pumpkin pie?" She smirked playfully.

"No."

An raised an eyebrow, disappointed. "So?"

"You just need someone who eats sweets a lot and let him warm you." He went quickly from An's sight and hugged her from behind. "Warm, isn't it?"

A flush crept onto An's cheek. She started to like physics. "Yeah..."

And it was way better than pumpkin pie XD
