Second edit: Yoooo there are STILL people reading and favoriting this story? How?!
I just wanted to pop in and say thank you to everyone still reading this? How is this my most popular story lmao I wrote it when I was 13
It's actually kinda painful to think nothing I make will ever live up to this but oh well. XD Thank you for reading and reviewing!
Edit: Alright, soooo… THIS is gonna be interesting to edit. I am going to leave my original author's notes, like this one explaining how the first chapter is basically a dream I had, and adding these edit ones like I have with my other edited fanfics. Obviously I'm editing my "dream" so it's a better story plot-wise. So… Yeah.
Also, if you want to see the full image of the picture for this fic, you can easily find it on my deviantART. I go by Stacky422 there. StacyMcMissile here because Imma lil bit more incognito because ALL MY FANFICTIONS ARE SUPER AWKWARD TO ANYONE WHO DOESN'T LIKE CARS LIKE HOW WEIRD DOES THAT SOUND THAT YOU WRITE FANFICTION ABOUT TALKING MACHINES THAT'S CREEPY anyway yeah
Alright, this is pretty much the dream I had, but I emphasized the details to…ya know…make it more interesting. :) Oh and I made up a name for myself, because…yeah…Made up last name, too. And when I mention Cars 2 in the story, that is actually how I normally think. I think about Cars 2 all the time. :) Yeah…my obsession is unhealthy…but it makes me happy…and that's all that matters…right?
Oh, and, my dream ended after Finn "blows up". So…after that, it's my imagination, not my subconscious.
Oh, and I do think that in the Cars movies, cars can open their doors, 'cause at the beginning of Cars 2, Odis's door kinda open when he moves…So...yeah.
Chapter 1
Annabel's POV
The gravel crunched beneath my shoes as I stepped out of the big platform tent I had shared with the rest of my Girl Scout troop last night. I took a deep breath, feeling the crisp, morning air fill my lungs. This was it.
Throwing a quick glance behind me, I continued down the path, my backpack slung over my shoulder. Before I left I had double checked and triple checked that everything in my bag was in order.
I paused every so often, hearing a noise that I thought that it may be someone discovering I had gone, but it turned out just to be a bird or an animal. I continued on.
Of course, I was scared. I wasn't even sure where I planned on going, yet. The one thing I forgot to plan ahead about.
I paused. There was a large tree that had caught my attention every time I walked past it. Hesitating, I walked up to it. I could climb that…
I did just that. Sure, the longer I stayed, the more chance I had of getting caught, but if I was free now, I was free to climb trees.
After a while, I began looking around, and I noticed the tree went a lot higher than where I was now, and that I could easily climb it without nearly falling and breaking my neck, so I did what any sensible teenager would do and climbed higher.
I was nearly to the top. I was excited. I'd never made it to the top of a tree before, and I wanted to feel like I'd accomplished something.
What the crap?! I was suddenly surrounded by water! No, engulfed by it. Oh my god, I'm going to drown. I still had my backpack on, I was going to drown. I struggled to the surface, and gasped for breath once I broke through.
Oh my god. I was… I was in the middle of an ocean. Not only that, but… It was night.
I was in the middle of the ocean in nearly complete darkness. I wanted to hyperventilate.
Hang on… There's a light source in the distance, I was sure of it. A boat, maybe? It looked like fire. Why would fire be on a boat? A sinking boat wouldn't be much use to me. Then again, a boat means people. Might as well head for it.
What I figured was about halfway there, I was exhausted. I know the extremely smart thing to do would be to ditch my backpack, but there was no way I was going to do that. Especially since it works a little bit like a floatation device… I also probably should have kicked my shoes off, but then what would I do if someone found me? Walk around barefoot? I floated on my bag to rest. After I felt I had a little more energy, I prepared to continue on, but froze.
The source of light was the biggest oil rig I had ever seen.
Half floating on my bag, half treading water with my feet, I stared at it. Do something, I thought to myself.
I started swimming for it.
…
I was considerably closer, but still had a long way to go.
Maybe I could try to see what was going on up there? I doubt I could, but—what the fudge was that?! S-something just exploded! What t…
I smiled. It looked like the explosion at the beginning of Cars 2.
Welp, something just fell. Yup. Um… Oh, boats! Actually, those look like the boats that work for the Lemons. Oh, well. I'm at an oil rig. Most oil rig boats probably look like that… Um… Nope, nope, nope, those boats are totally shooting at whatever fell. Serious déjà vu right now, this is just like the beginning of my favorite Pixar movie.
Hold up, if they're being shot at, they've gotta be good, right? Wait, maybe not. Um… Sure, I'll swim by them, anyway. Crap. Um… Screw it. I'm in the middle of an ocean!
I was swimming towards the commotion when another explosion erupted off the surface of the water. Well, better safe than sorry, I guess; I went underwater just in case it caused me any damage.
Hang on, is that…? That is definitely a car. Holy crap, that's not just a car, that's an Aston Martin.
Oh my god. Oh my god, that car has eyes. That car has eyes on its windshield.
That's it. I'm dead. I drowned. Or I'm drowning. And I'm hallucinating.
That is definitely Finn McMissile. I am definitely dead.
Well, if I'm dead, I'm totally gonna head towards him. This is pretty cruel, though. I'll never catch up with him. He's got those… Thingies… That make him swim through the water…
Wait a sec… Is he…? He is! He's coming towards me. I just have to wait for him! Then, not only will I meet Finn McMissile, but he can give me a ride to shore! Good. If I was dead, wouldn't I not feel the cold water?
…
Finn definitely saw me from underwater. Before I knew it, he was coming towards me on his hydrofoils.
"What on Earth…?" He couldn't help but murmur.
"Can you give me a ride to… Uh, land?"
Finn looked at me, clearly confused. "What…?"
"Am I?" I suggested.
"Well… Yes…" He almost sounded embarrassed.
"Um… How do I say this? I think I've been… I guess "transported" is the best word… To the world of Cars." I awkwardly explained.
Of course that sounded weird to Finn. That'd be like a weird creature saying to me, "I seem to have been transported to the world of humans."
"That doesn't exactly answer…" Finn's eyelids scrunched in confusion.
"I know." I frowned. "You… Probably won't know what this means, but I'm… A human." I scratched my head.
"So… You came from another world." Finn confirmed.
"That's right." I nodded.
"And… You're not working for Zündapp or anyone, correct?"
"Nope!" I grinned. "If you want, I can help you with the mission you've got right now!"
"How did you—?"
"Doesn't matter." I cringed. "Um… Hey, so, I'm really tired from swimming for a long time, so…"
"Oh… Yes, of course…"
I somehow managed to climb onto Finn's trunk. He rode across the water at full speed, but after a while, slowed down so we could hear each other.
"Terribly sorry, but what was your name, again?"
"Oh, uh, I'm Annabel. Uh, Willows."
"Nice to meet you, Miss Willows." I heard the smile in his voice. "I'm—"
"I know who you are." I smiled into my sleeve.
"…you do?" he asked.
"Yeah! Uh… I promise I'm not a stalker. In my world uh… Your world is-is a fictional place."
"Oh?"
"In fact, this is the beginning of a movie. Well, save my appearance…"
"I'm a character in a movie? So… Then what happened back at the oil rig…"
"It was to introduce your character. And mainly, your awesomeness."
"Oh… Well, thank you…"
"In fact, it's a huge honor to meet you, really." I grinned, trying not to squeak like a creepy fangirl.
"…I see."
"And now you probably think I'm a stalker…" I sighed.
"Well, normally I'd say 'yes,' but seeing as how I'm a fictional character…"
"Yeah, if you weren't, it'd be super creepy that I have a plush toy of you…Did I just say that out loud?"
"I'm going to choose to ignore that… Though, I can't say I'm exactly comfortable with the fact I'm a fictional character…"
"Speaking of your character, your voice seems to be trailing off a lot. That doesn't happen too often. You're always super…" I switched to a joking tone. "Suave and confident." I smiled.
"Well, I don't meet someone from another world too often."
I laughed. "So… How far out in the middle of the ocean are we, exactly? I know we're pretty much 40 degrees north and 172 degrees west in the middle of the Pacific, but I don't know exactly where that would be…"
"How did you—oh. Right… Movie. You're right, though, that's exactly where we are. I have to go to—"
"Tokyo." I finished. "Can I come with you?"
"Well, I don't exactly have a choice now, do I?" Finn asked, chuckling lightly.
"Unless you want to leave me in the middle of a large body of water… Please don't take that as a suggestion." I added.
"I assure you, I won't."
"So… If you're letting me come with you, then… shouldn't I be hidden or something?"
"Hm… I suppose you'd be a little too cramped in my trunk?"
"I don't really like tight spaces." I frowned.
"Then that's not going to work."
"What about your backseat?"
"Sorry?"
"Cars can open their doors, can't they?"
"Well, yes…"
"So can't I…?"
"I suppose that would be the best place for you. Brilliant idea, Miss Willows."
"Thanks." I beamed. "And, uh… Can you just call me Annabel? Doesn't sound right for a teenager to be called "Miss Willows"."
"Alright." Finn obliged.
I was soon sitting comfortably in Finn's backseat.
I'm riding in Finn McMissile. I'm riding in Finn McMissile. I'm riding in Finn McMissile. I'm riding in FINN McMISSILE OH MY GOD!
"Hey, Finn?" I spoke up.
"Yes, Annabel?"
"Do you know what time it is?"
"I'm afraid I don't know the exact time. I believe it's sometime past midnight."
"Okay. Thanks."
"You may want to rest before we reach Japan." Finn suggested.
"Okay. Thanks for bringing me with you."
"You're quite welcome. Annabel?"
"Yeah, Finn?"
"I'm going back underwater, now."
"Okay."
…
Finn's POV
Another day, another close encounter with death. Of course, it makes it more interesting when one has to fake their own death to get away alive. I smirked as I thought about the Lemons, ignorant to my escape.
Well, I made it out alive, and so did a—what did she say she was again? A human that I helped, apparently. And now she's asleep in my backseat…
I suppose she'll remain their most of the time? That would probably be for the better. If someone saw her, she could be in danger. Unless I'm the one in danger. She doesn't look dangerous… I'll keep an eye on her.
I won't tell anyone about her, either, then. I can keep her a secret, right? That shouldn't be too difficult as long as she stays back there.
Now that I've got that figured out, I can ponder on the previous events of the day. I was able to acquire photos of Professor Zündapp's new weapon, found out about Professor Zündapp, and got away alive. But Leland didn't.
Leland… I didn't… Didn't get there on time…
No use dwelling on the past. I hate to just ignore the fact that Leland… I shook my hood. I had a job to do.
I caught a glance of Annabel's sleeping figure in my rearview mirror. No, I've got two jobs to do, now.
Leland would've wanted me to finish both.
