A/N: READ BEFORE READING CHAPTER!

So when Merlin is taking her potion to hide the fact she is well a girl I will be writing Merlin as a male. When Merlin is off her potion she will be written as a girl. Please at the end let me know what you think of this and should I keep it that way or write Merlin always as a girl.

Chapter Four

Harry smirked seeing Arthur's new servant trying to get his armor on not knowing how to do it. He almost felt bad for Merlin, except for the part of how funny his brothers face was. He got up since his servant had already left and walked over. "Merlin do you know anything about armor."

Merlin sighed looking at the ground and to Harry, "No."

Harry sighed, "You should have asked someone to teach you."

"I don't have time for this." Arthur said getting mad.

Harry rolled his eyes at his brother. "Look let me teach him and next time you don't have to waste so much time. There is a tournament coming up I think you want your armor put on right for that."

Arthur wanted to say something but couldn't against his brother. He knew he was right.

"How on earth did you get the Pratt to be quite." Merlin said causing Harry to burst out into laughter.

"Alright Merlin this is how you get Armor on right. I will show you once, and if you need more help go to Gwen."

"Why would Gwen know?"

Harry smiled "Her father is a blacksmith and a dam good one too. So she knows her stuff. I have all my servants be taught by her."

"You know men don't like that."

"Does some good to have them be humbled."

Merlin watched and was learning everything Harry had to teach him.

The Prince's were only twenty minutes late to practice and Merlin walked over to Gwen to stand next to her while watching the two fight.

"So what took you guys so long."

"Harry had to teach me to put armor on.. Think you can give me some pointers later."

Gwen smiled "sure thing Merlin."

They watched as the Princes fought each other. It was easy to see that Harry was the faster one of two. But both were on the same level.

"So if they both end up in the last round who do you think will win Gwen."

"Hard to say Harry is very fast and quick and brilliant with a sword. But Arthur skill with the sword is only closely matched to his father and brother. And he has more strength to push his brother back. If it is short Harry can win he can move some ways you wouldn't think is possible. But a long fight Arthur always wins."

Morgana walked up smiling at the two, "I hope Harry wins he has been training so much he is about equal with Arthur and is more humble and not hot headed."

This caused Merlin to laugh, only to realize that Arthur heard them, "Hey Merlin it is time to train you get out here."

Merlin paled at that thought. As he headed out to join the twins in fighting. Were Arthur used him for hitting practice if Harry was there he would teach him how to fight. Merlin just wished she didn't have to take that dam potion thinking maybe she well he at the moment wouldn't be in this spot.

Harry smiled while Arthur was getting something to drink. "Sad to say Morgana is a better fighter than you."

Arthur glared at his twin "brother please. She wouldn't be a challenge to me."

"If my memory is right it was her not getting challenged when we were children."

"You know I went easy on her."

"Because she is a girl. And you know how that turned out."

"Don't"

"She had you so beaten that you swore you beat her next practice and did you."

That moment Merlin walk next to them. "Go get some Armor on Merlin you are learning how to fight."

"You know I don't have time for this." Arthur said wanting to use the boy for practice so he just quite he couldn't believe his father forced him with a servant.

"Better to know how to fight than for him needing protection when he is out on the road and being attacked by bandits."

"Fine I will be practicing more with Leon you train him." He marched off.

Harry turned to hear Merlin mutter Pratt at Arthur. "You do know he is a Prince and my brother right."

Merlin turned looking nervous for a brief moment. "Just don't let father hear you call him that."

"Your so different from him how come? I mean your twins."

"Well Arthur is the next king I am just the spare I will most likely married off to a princess to rule somewhere else. Or a noble woman. Arthur has put this standard on himself. He needs to prove to everyone who is better. But I want to be there for my brother to back him up. I will be watching his back at every turn to make sure nothing happens to him. Now lets get to practice I don't want him to have to worry about you in a battle."

Merlin was about to collapse, he was starving, sweat and tired. Harry had run him all morning, never letting up. He thought the Prince was kind but different word came to mind like slave driver. Gwen had come over saying he took it easy on him. And he was lucky that the Prince even went to train him the way he did. Showing him how to hold the sword right. And then when it came to his stance he get wacked every time he did something wrong to make him in the right place. And then after that was making him do a thousand swings of the sword. He thought his arms where going to fall off. And had been happy it was lunch time until he saw Arthur smirking. "Oh, Merlin. Harry will be joining me in my chamber for Lunch in an hour. I first need to have a bath. So go prepare it. Then get the food and table set up."

Merlin wanted to hit the Pratt's while they ate and he had nothing to eat. Morgana and Gwen had shown up as well. Only thanks to Gwen Merlin had anything. She brought him an apple and told him to grab a little bit of food while getting there's. Looking around the room he did not notice Gaius. So sat down on a bench thinking of the rest of the day. Arthur had made him clean everything that had the slightest thing to do with Prince, making him skip breakfast, lunch, and dinner. He wiped the sweat off his brow.

"So, how was your first day as Arthur's servant?" Gaius asked worried about the girl he noticed the potion was still in effect.

Merlin groaned and tapped his temple, "Do you hear clanging?" He fell down, laying his back on the bench. After a few moment of silence he sat up and wobbled in his seat.

"Ah! It was horrible." He groaned. "Ah, and I've still got to learn all about tournament etiquette by the morning. Onhríne achtung bregdan."

Then, a large book slide in front of him and opened. He sighed contentedly at the successful magic.

"Ah!" Gaius said, flicking the back of Merlin's hand. He grumbled and rubbed the sore spot and he continued, "What've I told you about using magic like this?"

"If I could actually feel my arms, I'd pick up the book myself." Merlin groaned, slouching in his seat. He rubbed her temple and started thinking about how hungry he was.

"Never mind your arms. What do I do if you get caught?" He said, and Merlin pondered it. If he were caught, he could easily get a head start on the search party with magic. He could change his appearance and return to Camelot as somebody else, fulfilling her destiny under another name and face. Truth was she could come back as a girl with her hair long no one would know any better thinking Merlin is a boy. Merlin smiled liking that thought more and more. Merlin didn't like the idea of changing one's appearance by magic, because you could see their true self in a mirror usually. Plus it didn't really change what you looked like; just make people think you looked different. But it would be useful in that situation. But since she would be a girl she wouldn't have to change anything.

"What would you do?" Merlin asked. Knowing what Gaius thought of might be interesting; a backup plan of sorts. Whatever he came up with, Merlin was sure, would be better than anything he could even dream about.

"Well you just make sure it doesn't happen, for both our sakes."

Merlin huffed and started to read, as Gaius began supper for the two of them. After awhile Merlin felt pain in her stomach like noting else and felt a sensation all over her body for it to suddenly stop. She felt the pressure under her bindings knowing she was back to being a girl. Looking at her hands she noticed they where smaller just a bit. Gaius looked there isn't much difference in the male and female. But there is a softer look to Merlin as a girl. She had high cheek bones but still looked like a boy with her short hair and her chest bound. She looked skeptically over at Gaius and asked, "Ah! I save Arthur from being killed and I end up as a servant. How is that fair? I even have to hide my gender from everyone now."

"I'm not sure fairness comes into it. You never know, it might be fun." Gaius said and she scoffed.

"You think being a boy is fun?! You think mucking out Arthur's horses is going to be fun? You should hear my list of duties. On top of that Harry is making me train with them. They are such slave drivers… I mean all the work. Then the training. And both of them boss me around. And I can't say no to either of the royal twins." Honestly, she took care of everything and anything to do with the boys. It didn't make any sense, in a castle full of servants she had the heaviest load, which included saving the Pratt's life in future conflicts.

"We all have our duties. Even Arthur. And if Harry is training you be happy. You will be able to protect your self with a weapon. And Harry is just giving you a couple task to see if you are good for his brother. Trust me he has gotten rid of some servants he did not approve of. Both the brother have hard task Merlin."

"It must be so tough for him with all the girls and the glory. I honestly don't get what is so great about Arthur. He is a jerk and he is a sloppy eater he leaves his clothes everywhere. And he is a Pratt. " She said. Gaius scowled and then eventually chuckled.

"He is a future king. People expect so much of him. He's under a lot of pressure."

"I'm under more pressure than him. Seriously, at least he gets recognition for what he does. I have to make sure he gets recognition. Plus save his royal ass."

Gaius laughed and put a bowl in front of her. She silently cursed. Why was she having porridge. She just hated it. She shook her head and then saw another bottle of the potion put down.

"I still have some more."

"Your to take all of it what if it had warn off while you where with the Princes."

Gaius started laughing even more.

The next morning Merlin knocked on the door to Gwens home.

Gwen walked to the door to see Merlin and was very surprised. "Please help… Prince Harry tried to teach me Armor… But incompetence and Arthur threatened more chores today if I don't do it right."

Merlin started to giver her a helpless look which almost made her think Merlin was a girl and not a boy. "Sure I will help you. Let me get ready I will be out in ten minutes."

After a moment Gwen walked out and led the way back to the castle. Which was where Merlin told her how Harry tried to teach the other day but went too fast. Now Merlin couldn't remember any of it and needed help.

"So, you've got voiders on the arms." She said, pointing to something that confused Merlin just by looking at it.

"Alright," Merlin said watching and putting this to memory.

"The hauberk goes over your chest." Gwen said, pointing to the hauberk. She showed Merlin how the do the straps.

"The chest, the arms, the chest," Merlin repeated, trying to memorize where everything went.

"I guess you know what to do with the helmet." Gwen joked awkwardly and Merlin smirked only to burst into laughter.

"Ur, yeah, yeah, that was the only bit I'd figured out." he said and then put on the helmet. He smirked and raised his eyebrow the cocky way he had seen Arthur do over a million times yesterday. "How come you know so much about this?"

"I'm the blacksmith's daughter. I know pretty much everything there is to know about armor, which is actually kind of sad. What man wants a wife with a vast knowledge of fighting and weapons?" Gwen asked sadly.

"No, it's brilliant! You're brilliant!" Merlin said taking the helmet off with his hair brushing back and quickly gave Gwen a tight hug of gratitude "Thank you so much Gwen. You are a goddess amongst us mortals." Merlin said letting go of his friend.

Gwen couldn't help but smile while she felt heat to her face at the complement. At the kind words of her clumsy male friend. There was something about Merlin she couldn't put her finger on. It made her trust him wholeheartedly and at the same time be wary. She shrugged it off and smiled "Thank you Merlin." She watched the boy running off cursing about running late to meet Arthur.

Arthur watched as his man servant was struggling to get the vambrace on his arm. He watched as Merlin was huffing in annoyance but was continuing to work at it. He was getting annoyed with the boys fumbling and having Harry standing there all ready while he stood there not finished and soon the tournament be starting. He couldn't believe anybody could be so stupid.

"You do know the tournament starts today?"

"How could I forget, Sire?" Merlin said and inwardly laughing at the Sire part; though if he didn't give him respect, Merlin be even in bigger trouble with the warning Harry given yesterday.

Merlin had all of Arthur's and Harrys armor walking back to Gaius place to work on them. Only for him to stop Merlin. Merlin was slightly worried since the next dose of the potion was needed soon. And forgotten it in her room. She winced feeling it take effect. And keep her head low. Thank goodness she wore her bindings still. "Merlin I need to tell you something."

She nodded.

Harry was surprised what he seen of Merlin he would not hold his tongue. And that was one of the things that worried him. He liked Merlin since he treated him and his twin just like anyone else. And that would cause problems. "Merlin I wanted to warn you. I know you won't show me or Arthur the respect or birthright demands. Which I strangely like you because of this. You are like Gwen in a way she treats Morgana like anyone else and cares for her. You saved my brothers life. Which for that I am grateful and I owe you a debt, which I do not know how I could pay you back. You saved my twin. He is my best friend and been there for me for so long. Now when you are around the other Knight from the different lands you must call Arthur and me by our titles. Other wise they could call for your head for the disrespect of the Princes. Just watch out for your self. I would not like to see something happen to you." Harry said smiling and soon left.

Harry couldn't believe all the work Merlin had been able to do. Any other servant would been crying and given up. He had helped Arthur come up with different task to use on the new servants to get rid of the horrible ones. And he knew the Armor was ah amazing. He hadn't seen it look so good in awhile. He smiled seeing Merlin standing there looking proud. While working on the rest.

Harry saw the annoyed look on Arthurs face. He knew his brother didn't like his servant. And he had even come to him the night of the feast asking him to help him get Merlin to quite. He knew they couldn't fire Merlin after the boy saved Arthur's life. Which Harry knew was why Arthur hated the boy. But Harry was growing found of the boy. Having watched him struggle with all the task they given him, and only not to give up. He was humble willing to ask for help from others and was not hesitant to admit he didn't know something. But would bust his ass to learn it and fix the problems. Merlin looked out for Arthur and seemed to want to help in a way he never seen before. Harry had a feeling that Merlin would be with them for a long time.

Merlin fiddled with it some more but finally got everything in place. He gave him a mischievous smile and asked, "You nervous?"

"I don't get nervous." He lied

Merlin turned to Prince Harry "You nervous?

"I don't get nervous." Harry lied just as well. Truth was both Arthur and Harry got nervous a lot; they both worked up to be good at hiding it. They had expectations of perfection. If they weren't perfect, then they were a failure. They relied on each other to help each other out.

Harry knew another reason Arthur didn't like Merlin was because he could point out their flaws with ease.

"Really, I thought everyone got nervous." He said, rubbing his chin, looking as if he was in a deep thought, and smirking.

"Just shut up." Both said the same time.

Merlin grabbed Arthur's cape and tied it around his neck. He shoved the helmet in his hand and smiled, "There, very dashing. You both will have the girls drooling over you."

"Aren't you forgetting something?" He waited a moment then sighed, "My sword," He said, raising an eyebrow and pursing his lips.

Merlin laughed dumbly then stumbled. After regaining his balance, he picked up his sword and put it in his hand. "Oh, yeah, sorry, guess, uh, you will be needing that. I thought you be good enough with out it."

Both the Princes walked off with one of them in anger over the stupidity of his new servant. He couldn't think of anything Merlin would be good for. He couldn't think of that at the moment. He had a tournament to win.

Merlin walked next to Gaius. "Well, that was fun." He said.

Merlin was watching at the entrance to the arena with Gaius. Uther walked past the front line of knights. Merlin had never seen a tournament before. They didn't really care for them or have the time to travel to see them. Though he smirked thinking of the show the people of Camelot have if they had the farmers fighting for that gold.

Arthur and Harry where looking at there father. And listened intently as Uther began to speak. Harry looked to Morgana and saw the look on her face she looked nervous and knew that meant something bad. He would have to be extra careful in these fights.

"Knights of the realm, it's a great honor to welcome you to a tournament at Camelot. Over the next four days, this would be normally a three day tournament but with so many of you coming we added an extra day. Now you will come to put your bravery to the test, your skills as warriors, and of course, to challenge the reigning champion, my son, Prince Arthur. Only one can have the honor of being crowned champion, and he will receive a prize of 1,000 gold pieces." Uther said.

"It is in combat that we learn a knight's true nature, whether he is indeed a warrior or a coward. The tournament begins!" The king said as the crowd cheered and the knights enters. Uther then stopped Arthur and Harry on his way to the stands. "Both of you better not disappoint me understand."

The twins nodded and father smiled at them ""I trust you will make me proud." He turned walking to his seat while Arthur stood there to be the first to fight. Harry was on the other side of the bracket so they fight each other in the finals.

The guards took Arthur's and the other knight's capes and the crowd whooped in anticipation. Arthur and the knight began to fight, and Merlin now could see the pressure that was on the princes.

Arthur watched his opponent and sifted his foot in the dirt. Just waiting for the first move spinning his sword he ready himself. Posed for the attack, watching. Arthur saw the moment and took it. He moved quickly only for the man to bring up his shield in the last moment. His sword hitting the shield. The knight swung back at him only for Arthur to lean back to avoid it. He bashed the knights shield back with his and quickly dodged the sword at him spinning out of the way. While getting in close he was able to elbow the knight in the head knocking him out.

"Yeah, come on!" He yelled, surprised he even cared. Arthur somehow heard his voice through the ruckus, though he didn't know why. He ignored it and pushed his opponent to the ground, putting the sword swiftly to his neck. Arthur had won. He sighed in relief and smiled; and he could have sworn he heard Merlin scream, "Yes!"

Another set of knights began to fight as Arthur went off to find Merlin. He found him at the entrance and stood there with him as Knight Valiant began to fight. He had seen better swordsmen; his father one of them, but Valiant was surely impressive. Merlin nudged him and said, "Knight Valiant looks pretty handy with a sword."

"Yes he seems to have gotten better over the years."

They both noticed Valiant approaching and stopped talking. He stopped near Arthur and nodded.

"May I offer my congratulations on your victories today?" Valiant said, plastering on a fake smile.

"Likewise," Arthur replied in kind. Merlin smiled politely next to him, unlike his usual mocking smile.

"I hope to see you at the reception this evening." He said, and with that Valiant and his servant were off.

"Creep," He said simply, and after a moment's pause they both snorted. The two paused at the short moment of agreement.

"Uh, for tomorrow you need to repair my shield, wash my tunic, clean my boots, sharpen my sword, and polish my chainmail. Also see if Harry needs anything done. His servant seemed to be under the weather."

He scowled at him and rubbed his temple. How would the royal family react if they found out all his items were going to be taken care of by magic?

Merlin smiled having climbed into bed earlier and casted spells on both Princes items to have everything finished. She flipped through the book and started to read spells on healing. No one could tell her that she didn't know how to multitask. She jumped as Gaius walked in and everything dropped. She looked like a kid with her hand in the cookie jar.

"Are you using magic again?" He asked skeptically.

"No not at all." She said only slightly nervous.

"Then what is all of this Merlin?"

She looked around and shrugged, as if she had nothing to do with it.

"I just came to tell you that supper's ready."

"Is it porridge again?" She groaned; that was losing its novelty fast. Gaius just smiled and walked out of the room. She groaned thinking it be the bane of her life. Only to shake that thought out knowing her bane was Arthur he would be her down fall. She started to leave the room but opened the door her eyes glowing making everything get back to work.

The same moment Arthur stood next to Harry while in line to greet their father and Morgana. "Can you believe him sucking up to her?"

Harry leaned out and looked. He too never liked Sir Valiant either. "Could you see them getting together."

Arthur paled at the thought. "Please don't say that what if it gives someone ideas."

"Valiant won't get near her if I have something to say about it. He have to beat me first before I let him near her."

"Well if he last you will be fighting him before me."

"Arthur." Uther said looking to his sons.

Arthur bowed "Father."

Uther turned to Harry nodding "Harry." Harry bowed and moved next to Arthur hearing Morgana. "They all seem impressed by Knight Valiant."

"That's because he never made it out of the first round before this." Harry responded taking Morgana's hand and kissing it. "My lady."

"I will give him props for getting better."

Both boys left Morgana standing there in thought.

Merlin walked to the armory and shuddered. She was bout to go to bed but thought it be best to bring the Princes armor back now rather than later. She could hear feint hissing, like snakes. She didn't find snakes really scary, but almost anyone in their right mind would get a bit scared by the hissing of snakes. She turned the corner in the room and the hissing become louder.

"Hello? Is there someone there?" She asked weakly, looking all around. She found Valiant's shield and she could have sworn she saw one of the eyes blink. She shook her hear thinking it must be from the work load she has had getting to her. Or it wouldn't be the first time something like that was a trick of the light, but she was still cautious. She moved her finger towards the head when a sword was put to her chest. She got up slowly and saw Valiant standing there. He put his sword down and smiled in a creepy way.

"Can I help you with something?"

"Nope, I'm good. I, I was just... I putting my master's armor back." She was glad she was in a situation where it was OK to be scared. He brushed her cheek with his rough hand and she refrained from flinching.

"Not everyone's as hesitant as I am. I have always taken what I want woman, money, nothing will stop me.I have never had problem with men, and when they look so much like a woman… Well you best go on your way. Don't mess with my weapon or shield again. Or I will make you pay you understand right."

"Right, yeah, no problem," She said, putting Harry's Armor on the rack then stumbled out. There was something off about Valiant. But could care less all she wanted to do was get to bed and take the nasty potion.

Next morning Merlin stood in Arthur's chambers, with all of his armor polished and on the table. Along with Harry's as well. Arthur walked in and was shocked by all the work that had been done in one night. Harry walked in shocked "Did you sleep at all?"

"You did all this on your own?" He asked skeptically, running a finger over his polished armor and seeing a clean finger afterwards.

"Yes, Sire."

"Good job Merlin." Harry said smiling. He never seen servants pass the test. The test which Harry and Arthur had was to give all their new servants way to much work. Then see if they asked for help. Which they did not mind. The test was to see if they gave up and quit. If they didn't ask for help or quit the task was to see if they did all the task in the right order. In which what was higher on the scale without telling them. Never did they think any one be able to do all of them and by their selves.

"Now let's see if you can get us into it without forgetting anything." Arthur quickly added.

Merlin gave an impish smile and went to put on everything. Not forgetting a single.

Arthur and Harry looked to each other. Merlin may not be extremely fast but, it was a large improvement from the day before. Merlin then handed them the helmets dramatically and smiled.

"That was much better." The twins admitted, "Not that it could have got any worse."

"I'm a quick learner."

"I hope, for you sake, that's true." Arthur responded.

"Good luck, go bust some heads."

Harry smirk "we don't need luck but thank you." Both of them walked out ready for battle.

Arthur entered the arena with a proud stride. He gave the crowd a nod and they went wild.

Merlin leaned at the entrance and watched intently. It wasn't that he actually cared, he told himself. He thought it was dumb to be fighting each other for money.

"Is it my imagination, or are you beginning to enjoy yourself?" Gaius asked her from behind. She looked over to see him and sighed.

"It…" Merlin thought for a moment. Arthur is a Pratt and never thanked her for saving his life. Harry was just a bit better. Only thing was this was at least a little bit interesting, Merlin admit to himself, "It isn't totally horrible all the time."

Gaius and Merlin watched as Arthur beat his opponent. Both of them started to clap and cheer. Gaius waited then went to check up on the other knight. As Arthur walked over. Merlin watched as Valiant walked to the center for his fight. He had a bad feeling about this. Thinking back to the hissing shield of his. Something was wrong and Merlin just couldn't put her finger on it.

Harry came to watch the fight next to Arthur. "Sir Ewan has gotten better."

Arthur nodded, "Yeah he has."

Merlin was watching and didn't know Harry was hearing someone whispering bite him. He looked around and turned to see the fight was over. The crowd cheered and both Princes and Merlin saw Ewan lying there without movement. Gaius walked into the arena with his medical bag. He sat down checking on him and waved for some guards to come carry him off.

"I think he's badly hurt." Merlin said, then rushed over to help Gaius in any way he could.

Harry turn looking to Arthur "Something feels wrong.."

"Harry it just sadly proves Valiant has gotten better. But you and I both know not good enough."

Arthur looked to Harry "It just means you need to put the man back into his place." Arthur said looking to the knight who was way to confident from the way he performed in the past tournaments.

Merlin walked into the physician's chambers and dropped Arthur's armor on the ground. He walked over to Gaius and asked, "How is he?"

"It's most odd. Look at this. See these two small wounds. Looks like a snake bite."

"How could he have been bitten by a snake? He was injured in the sword fight." Merlin looked closer at his neck there were two small wounds.

"But the symptoms are consistent with poisoning: slow pulse, fever, paralysis." Gaius said and he nodded.

"Can you heal him?"

"Well, if it is a snake bite, I'll have to extract venom from the snake that bit him to make an antidote."

"What happens if he doesn't get the antidote?"

"Then I'm afraid there's nothing more I can do for him. He's going to die." He said and the both of them looked down. Merlin sighed while going back to working on the armor while Gaius went back to work. Trying to help the knight. It hit Merlin like a slap to the face. Merlin stood up only for Gaius to look up from his book. "Yes Merlin?"

"He was fighting Knight Valiant." Merlin started to pace. "Last night when I went to take the Princes there armor I hissing. I looked for the source and it was coming near Valiant's shield. I thought I saw the snake on the shield blink."

"What?" Gaius asked, raising an eyebrow at Merlins outburst.

"Nothing, I'll be right back."

Merlin ran down several hallways and came upon Valiant's guest quarters. Looking around Merlin saw no one but noticed the light crack on the door. Leaning in Merlin looked. Merlin wanted to scream out of shock but covered his mouth. Seeing Valiant pull a mouse from the cage to put it up to the shield. As the three snakes came out of the shield and flicking their tongue.

"Dinner time, come on." Valiant noticed one of the snakes looking to his door.

He handed the mouse to a snake and Merlin hurried away. He could hear Valiant following him, so he ran as quietly as he could. Merlin turned a corner and hid in an alcove, where Merlin prayed he wouldn't see him. Merlin felt the chill shoot through his body as he felt his blood go cold feeling a hand on his shoulder.

"Merlin what are you doing?" Merlin turned hearing that voice relief through his body.

"Harry thank god."

Harry looked to see Merlin was deathly scared and shouldn't feel that in the castle.

"What happen?"

That moment Valiant appeared "Prince Harry seems you caught the rat."

"Excuse me what are you talking about?" Harry did not like the look in his eyes.

"I heard a sound and know this servant was spying on me. I feel you should hand the boy over so I can give him a punishment."

Harry felt Merlin tense next to him. "I am sorry but Merlin has been with me all this time. All you must have heard was us walking by or another servant. I do wonder what your so worried about that they spy on you. I mean servants come to deliver food or clean the rooms. So what is it I should do here?"

"I am sorry Prince Harry forgive me. I am just nervous for our fights later today."

"I shall see you later for the dinner." Harry said knowing if Valiant lasted the fight would be tomorrow and then the final will be on the 4th day.

Merlin looked worried when he said that. Valiant left that moment and Harry walked with Merlin. "Ok spill Merlin."

"There is nothing I need to get back to Gaius." Merlin took off running. Merlin had to tell Gaius about what happen.

Merlin busted in yelling "I've just seen one of the snakes in Valiant's shield come alive. He's using magic." Merlin panted.

"Are you sure?" Gaius asked, dropping what he was doing. He seemed thoroughly worried at the prospect of Valiant using magic.

"The snake ate a mouse - one swallow, straight down. Sir Ewan was fighting Valiant when he collapsed. It must've been one of the snakes from the shield. I have to tell Arthur." Merlin thought maybe he should have told Harry.

"Is there any chance you might be mistaken?"

"I know magic when I see it." Merlin couldn't believe Gaius would doubt him. He walked in and sat down next to Sir Ewaine.

"Perhaps, but do you have any proof?"

"Don't you believe me?"

"I fear you'll land yourself in trouble. How will you explain why you were in Valiant's chambers?"

"What does that matter? He's using magic to cheat in the tournament!" She groaned. Merlin ran a hand through his hair nervously. "Can't I say I was to bring him something?"

"Only if you where given orders from Arthur."

"What about Harry?"

"Why would you mention Harry?"

"Well he was there when I was running away and covered for me. Maybe he can help and if you talk to him he might listen."

"But you can't go accusing a knight of using magic without proof. The King would never accept the word of servant over the word of a knight. And Harry knows that you would need proof."

"Well that's t fair." Merlin said sharply.

"I'm afraid it counts for very little as far as the King is concerned. That's the way it is."

"Tch."

Merlin headed off back to the tournament since the lunch break was now over.

Merlin and Arthur watched a serving boy used a step ladder to put a helmet on Arthur's next opponent. Merlin looked at the man who looked like a bear.

"You're telling me you have to fight that?" He asked nervously, fiddling with his hands.

"Yes, and he's strong as a bear. But he's slow."

"Ah, and you're fast?" Merlin said in a joking tone, though he knew it was actually true.

"Exactly,"

Merlin finished helping Arthur with his armor and stood back. Merlin looked to see Valiant put down his shield and then Gaius approached them.

"How are you getting on?" Gaius asked, looking at Valiant as well.

"Fine, just doing my job, minding my own business, the usual." They heard cheering. They all turned to see Harry had his sword to the knights throat. As the man gave up because any movement the man be dead.

Arthur cheered his twin on. Harry took his helm off and waved to the crowd. He smiled and walked over to his twin. Merlin looked at the two. If Arthur had black hair then they would loo exactly alike. Only thing that would tell them apart would be there eye color. Merlin noticed though Harry had some light high lights in his hair. Arthur ran up to his brother both chatting away and smiling. This brought a smile to Merlin's face.

Merlin walked up handing Arthur his Helmet "Good luck Sire." Merlin said smiling.

Arthur looked to Merlin and smiled "I don't need it. I have my skills that will see me win."

Harry smiled seeing them getting along. "Well make it quick Arthur."

Arthur started his fight with the bear like man. Many people would gasp having seen how strong this man was but the ease their Prince handled him. Arthur continued to fight the bear man and won with ease. Merlin watched as Valiant went into the ring next to fight and won his match soon after. Merlin did not like the tournament if Arthur and Harry were not fighting. It just seemed pointless.

Merlin went to the brackets with Gaius to see the semi-finals tomorrow and saw Arthur was fighting Sir Leon and who Harry was facing.

"Valiant's going to fight Harry next. And if he uses the snakes he will then fight Arthur in the final." Merlin said worried. "He'll use the shield to kill them."

Gaius looked to Merlin "We won't let that happen. Come on we need to think about this."

Merlin walked off with Gaius and walked into there room. Merlin walked over to Sir Ewan. Sitting next to him Merlin was worried. Ewan had been nice to Merlin since arriving in Camelot. He dabbed a cloth on his brow and sighed, wondering what exactly he would do about Harry's and Arthur's upcoming fights. They wouldn't make it out alive if he didn't interfere. As good a fighter they are, strength couldn't beat to power of sorcery.

Gaius walked into the room. Whenever he came near Merlin he either wanted Merlin to do some chore or to give Merlin some philosophical comment he didn't mean to be philosophical at all.

"Merlin, about what I said earlier... Look, Uther wouldn't really listen to you or me, but you are right. We can't let Valiant get away with this." This brought a smile to Merlins lips.

"But we don't have any proof." Merlin said dejectedly. He put down the cloth.

"Well, if we could cure Ewan, he could tell the King that Valiant was using magic. The King would believe another knight. But how we get the antidote... Well, that's another matter."

Merlin heard those words knowing that Arthur and Harry had dinner with the King and the other knights tonight.

Merlin stood and rushed off with out a word to Gaius.

"Merlin?" Gaius yelled not knowing what the child would do.

Merlin walked to the council chamber and using the servant passage looked through a secret window and watched everyone while listening to their conversation. Merlin started to eavesdrop to find out what was going on.

Merlin heard them toast and the knights said, "Long live Valiant." She rolled her eyes. Thinking how they reacted to the fact they toasted one of them who was using magic and cheating.

"So, Valiant, do you think you stand a chance of defeating my sons?" Merlin heard Uther ask.

"They are great warriors, My Lord. I do hope to be a worthy opponent." Valiant replied. Harry was eating and not looking at either. He knew Valiant would not win tomorrow and felt insulted by his father even asking if the man had a chance. Only way he would if he cheated.

"You should stay in Camelot after the tournament. I could do with more knights like you." Uther said.

Arthur looked to Harry both of them have always disliked Valiant in the past.

"I'd be honored, My Lord." He replied.

After the meal Harry walked up to his father. Uther looked to his son and could tell that he wanted to talk to him alone. "What is it Harry?"

"Father I was wondering if you are serious with having Knight Valiant staying here in Camelot?"

Uther smiled looking to his son, "So you saw the spark he has too."

"I'm sorry what?"

Uther motioned his son to follow him and walk to a window and looked out over the city. "When I saw Valiant fight he has a drive son. Something that I don't see that often. He wants to win and I could see he do anything to win. He has something in his eyes. And I believe Morgana likes him. And who knows he may be good for her."

"Father your not saying you are thinking of marrying Morgana to him are you?"

"I might. Depends how he fights in the next fight. Son I want you to make me proud."

"I will father, but I just have a bad feeling about him. Please just think about it father."

"I will Harry. Now go get rest I look forward to your fight and Arthurs fight tomorrow."

Harry nodded and walked off knowing he was dismissed. He went to go talk to Arthur.

He walked up to Arthur's chamber and heard Merlin telling him an outlandish story. Saying Valiant would cheat and using magic. Harry shook his head and walked off to talk to Gaius to find out what is going on. He never lies to him before this.

Arthur looked to Merlin he couldn't believe this boy. He for some reason found it harder to believe his frail looking servant had chopped the head off a mystical painted magic snake. He felt Valiant would cheat, but the fact Merlin killed his nasty snake shook him. He couldn't believe that bit.

"You? You chopped its head off?" He scoffed and Merlin rolled his eyes.

"Ewan was bitten by a snake from the shield when he was fighting Valiant. You can talk to Gaius; you can see the puncture wounds in Ewan's neck where the snake bit him. Ewan was beating him, he had to cheat."

Arthur stayed silent for a moment then said, "Valiant wouldn't dare use magic in Camelot."

"Ewan was pinned under Valiant's shield. No one could see the snake bite him."

"I don't like the guy," He admitted, "but that doesn't mean he's cheating."

"Gaius is preparing an antidote to the snake venom." he said finally, "When Ewan's conscious, he'll tell you what happened. If you fight Valiant in the final, he'll use the shield. It's the only way he can beat you. Look at it!"

Arthur looked to Merlin about to laugh, "Merlin he won't face me he has to go up against Harry first and he will lose he is no where near Harry's skill level." He looked at the snake head Merlin had waved in his face. "How much did Gaius make?"

"Make what?" Merlin asked now lost with Arthur's train of thought.

"The antidote?"

"I think enough for two people."

Arthur looked at it thinking back to Ewan's fight. Harry pointed out it should have been Ewan's win. But something was wrong.

"Have you ever seen any snakes like that in Camelot?" Merlin said when Arthur was staring at the snake.

Arthur took the snake he had to agree never seeing a snake like this in his life. Sadly this proved nothing. "Merlin did you think that this could be a new breed, or it could have migrated or it is extremely rare." He looked to Merlin he still didn't know this boy to trust him enough. Harry said he trusted Merlin and even mentioned how Valiant been jumpy thinking someone was spying on him. He been surrounded by untrustworthy people. Only person he fully trusted was his twin. He meet so many people wanting something from him to gain something in return what made this boy different? What was making Merlin different making him feel as if he could trust Merlin.

Arthur shook his head putting the snake down. Knowing that Merlin had to be like the rest. Merlin only saved him for a reward and was mad it wasn't gold.

"I know I'm just a servant and my word doesn't count for anything." he admitted. "I don't expect you to believe me, but I wouldn't lie to you." Merlin said this with so much conviction Arthur felt something. Making him want to believe his servant. Looking at Merlin's face it was filled with determination. He didn't think his servant was lying to him.

"I want you to swear to me what you're telling me is true."

"I swear it's true."

Arthur took a moment to think. Merlin did have some proof with the snake and Sir Ewan will be waking and could clear things up. And Merlin wasn't even mocking him. He shook his head sighing; he had no reason to distrust Merlin. Looking up he smiled, "Then I believe you. Merlin I will bring this to my father."

The next morning Merlin was nervous in the court while they waited for the king. Harry walked up "come on Merlin lets go see Knight Ewan." Merlin looked to Harry.

"Shouldn't we wait."

"Normally but I just have this bad feeling and if you are right. I about magic someone needs to watch over Ewan. There was a strange feeling in Merlin's stomach. Merlin was leaving with Harry as Uther walked in.

Harry looked to his father and then to his twin. He looked to Merlin and whispered "Go watch Ewan." Harry handed Merlin a sword. "Keep it on you and keep Ewan safe. You killed one snake with a sword. So I know you can use it. I need to help Arthur if any one ask about the sword tell them I ordered you to clean it." Merlin looked at Harry's green sparkling eyes. Merlin had walked in the night before seeing Harry with Ewan. To find out he heard everything from Gaius.

Merlin looked to Harry "Here Arthur will need this." Merlin smiled and handed the snake over.

Harry looked at Merlin and noticed the boy for a moment looked softer and hands been soft. He shook his head and turned to see his father. He pocked the snake head.

"Why have you summoned the court?" Uther asked, looking his son Arthur over then looking for Harry seeing him walk in. Merlin looked and didn't know if Uther was proud of his children or disappointed. Merlin turn and took off running as fast as her feet would carry her. Not even thinking how the potion had warn off. Having forgotten to taken it the night before.

"I believe Knight Valiant is using a magic shield to cheat in the tournament." Arthur said. Harry walked up to stand with his father since his brother call the court together.

"Valiant, what do you have to say to this?"

"My Lord, this is ridiculous. I've never used magic. Does your son have any evidence to support this outrageous accusation?" Valiant said.

"Do you have evidence?" The king asked. Harry bit his lip standing there with his father looking at Arthur. He nodded to his brother. It sickened both princes how a knight could use magic and you have to have proof but any one who cried magic at someone who was a commoner would be killed not questions or trial.

"I do." Arthur said. Was about to motion for Merlin to see his servant was no where to be seen. Anger was starting to boil inside the Prince for Merlin to leave him high and dry.

"I have it father." Harry said having everyone turn to him. "When I heard of what was happening I did not want the evidence to be lost." He handed the snake head to his father.

"Let me see this shield." Uther said

Valiant came forward and handed him the shield.

Merlin ran into Gaius chambers to see him walking away from Ewan's bed. Only to see something moving under the mans covers. Merlin's eyes flashed gold and took off running as the snakes head popped up Merlin swung the sword taking the head of the snake off.

She fell to her feet. Only Of Sir Ewan to sit up moving to fast he got out of bed and looked at the servant who saved his life. Only for him to start to relapse for moving to fast. Merlin was next to him in a second. "Hey stay with me. GAIUS GET THE MEDICAN NOW!" She screamed.

Gaius stumbled in and noticed the snake body and the knight he ran forward grabbing three bottles. And started making the man taking them. One of the bottles he poured only half of it. "What happen?" Gaius asked.

"She saved my life." Ewan said before falling back to sleep.

Gaius took Ewan and started checking on him. "This is not good."

"Is he going to die?" Merlin asked worried.

"No he won't but he won't be awake for a week."

Merlin paled "Gaius you need to tell the king."

Gaius nodded and looked at Merlin. "Lets help Ewan forgets you are a girl."

Merlin paled and looked to Gaius "if I saved a mans life that is important."

"Take your potion now." He left that moment heading in to see Uther inspecting the shield. Harry saw Gaius and motioned his eyes to Arthur.

Arthur whispered to his, "We need –"

"Ewan. Find out what's happening. Got it Arthur." Harry said. Arthur smiled. Both have always seemed to just know what was needed most the time.

Harry listened to Gaius and sighed knowing without Ewan. He looked to Gaius "Did you bring this snake's body and head."

Gaius looked to him "I will go get it-"

"He will not want to wait. Don't worry Gaius in the fight I will be on watch." He smiled and walked back to Arthur.

"As you can see, My Lord, it's just an ordinary shield." Valiant said, looking triumphant.

"He's not going to let everyone see the snakes come alive." Arthur explained.

"Then how am I to know that what you say is true?" The king asked, seeming disappointed.

"I have a witness. Knight Ewan was bitten by one of the snakes from the shield. Its venom made him grievously ill; however, he has received an antidote. He will confirm that Knight Valiant is using magic." Arthur said.

"Where is this witness?" Uther asked.

Harry bowed "Father Gaius has just informed me that another of these snakes made it into his chamber if it wasn't for Arthurs servant who saved him. Had risked his life killing the snake in the nick of time Knight Ewan would be dead. Sadly Knight Ewan moved to much and is not awake at the moment."

Uther glared "Fine Gaius did you bring the Snake."

"Father Gaius has it there so he can make more antidote incase it is needed."

"Gaius bring me the snake now!" Uther demanded. Valiant looked slightly nervous Harry noticed.

Arthur looked to his brother but knew it was not going in their favor. But his brother been good always pointing things out and making others look better.

"I'm waiting!" Uther demanded. Gaius ran back in bring him the snake. "So you have no proof to support these allegations. At the moment that Sir Ewan is still unconscious. Have you seen Valiant using magic?"

"No. But my servant fought one of the snakes from..." Arthur pointed out about earlier.

"Your servant; you made these outrageous accusations against a knight the word of your servant?" Uther demanded. Uther glared at his sons.

"I believe he's telling the truth!" Arthur said.

"I think Merlin said the truth father. And Sir Ewan was again attacked."

"My Lord, am I really to be judged on some hearsay from a backwoods servant?" Valiant asked.

"Get this servant we shall hear from his mouth. And if I don't like it your servant will pay." Uther said making Arthur and Harry pale. Gaius felt his heart stop.

"My Lord," Valiant began and Uther looked back at him.

"I'm sure he was merely mistaken. I wouldn't want him punished on my account."

"You see? This is how a true knight behaves - with gallantry and honor." Uther said, shooting daggers through his eyes at his sons.

"My Lord, if your sons made these accusations because he's afraid to fight me, then I will graciously accept his withdrawal." Valiant said in a mocking tone.

Harry glared at Valiant knowing his talk with his father is making this all look worse.

"Is this true? Do you wish to withdraw from the tournament?" Uther asked, looking at his sons with even more disappointment, if that was possible.

"No!" Arthur exclaimed.

"Never!" Harry yelled back.

"Then what am I to make of these allegations?"

"Harry had nothing to do with this. He only helped me at the last moment, having been told about it. And obviously there has been a misunderstanding. I withdraw the allegation against Knight Valiant. Please accept my apology."

Valiant grinned wickedly. "Accepted," He said, and Valiant and Arthur shook hands.

Merlin was waiting in Gaius chambers waiting for the good news only to see him and Harry walk in with five guards. All their faces where serious. Merlin had the cool cloth on Sir Ewan's head. And was changing the bandage. "What happen?"

Harry looked to Merlin "We are taking Ewan to a different room to be guarded. Men take him and Gaius follow after make sure he will be ok."

Gaius nodded and Harry turned to Merlin. "You saved his and Arthur's Life. Sadly since Ewan is not awake my father trusted Valiant. My fight is in two hours. Arthur will need you since his fight is in a hour."

Arthur was moping in his room. He couldn't believe what had transpired in his father's court. He had made a complete fool of himself. He only able to save himself thanks to Harry. It was all Merlin's fault. He should have never trusted him.

Merlin walked in with Arthurs tunic for the fight.

"I believed you; I trusted you, and you made me look a complete fool." He said loudly.

"I know it didn't go exactly to plan." He said, trying to calm Arthur down. It obviously didn't work.

"'Didn't go to plan'?" He yelled, "My father and the entire royal court think I'm a coward! You humiliated me! And made Harry and me both look like fools. Because of you."

"We can still expose Valiant. And Sir Ewan is still alive." The vigor in his blue eyes almost made Arthur want to believe Merlin. Arthur looked at him. He may have passed all his test to be a servant but none ever made him look like a fool.

"I no longer require your services." He said calmly. He had to admit he had been an amusing servant, though an incompetent one. He had worse servants before.

"You're sacking me?" merlin asked nervous.

"I need a servant I can trust."

"You can trust me!"

"And look where it got me this time. Get out of my sight!"

He watched Merlin leave angrily, and that was that. Arthurs thoughts though where not on Merlin or his fight, but where on his brother what would happen if Merlin had been right.

Harry watched Merlin leaving his brothers room mad. He shook his head needing to ask a favor of Morgana.

While Harry was asking Morgana to help with Arthurs armor. Merlin was down wanting to talk to the dragon. "Where are you? I just came to tell you; whatever you think my destiny, whatever it is you think I'm supposed to do, you've got the wrong person! That's it. Goodbye." Merlin said loudly.

"If only it were so easy to escape one's destiny." The dragon said, and he wasn't sure if he was laughing at him or pitying him. Why were dragons so darn complicated?

"How can it be my destiny to protect someone who hates me?"

"A half cannot truly hate that which makes it whole. Very soon you shall learn that."

"Oh, great; just what I needed, another riddle." Merlin rolled his eyes.

"That your and Arthur's path lies together is but the truth." He seemed amused by her anger.

"What is that supposed to mean?" She groaned.

"You know, young witch, this is not the end. It is the beginning."

"Just give me a straight answer!" Merlin yelled as the dragon flew away.

Merlin left to sit on some steps not wanting to go watch the fights. Merlin felt horrible sitting there not only had Arthur fire him. But now Prince Harry had to fight Valiant. Gwen approached Merlin slowly and Merlin looked up. Gwen smiled at Merlin.

"Hello Merlin." Gwen said, sitting down next to him.

"Hello." Merlin said down in the dumps.

"Is it true what you said about Valiant using magic?" Gwen asked nervously.

Merlin nodded wishing it wasn't true.

"What are you going to do?" Gwen asked nervously.

"Why does everyone seem to think it's down to me to do something about it?" He couldn't do anything partially normal. No, he had to save the bloody prat's life every time he or his father messed up. And get no credit. Seriously, the knife throwing incident was a couple week before. Now she had to hide the fact she was a girl by taking potions. It was not something that she liked. She just wanted to be her.

"Because it is; isn't it? You have to show everyone that you were right and they were wrong."

"And how do I do that?"

"I don't know." Gwen admitted. She didn't understand why Merlin was always in the middle of problems. But she knew there was a reason and that she should help her friend.

Merlin caught sight of a dog statue, "That's it."

"Where are you going?" Gwen asked and Merlin sent her an impish smile.

"Do you have a wheelbarrow?"

Harry looked to Arthur, "did you believe Merlin?"

"I thought he wouldn't lie… I was wrong… But just in case be careful."

"Arthur it is me we are talking about. What could go wrong?"

Arthur watched his brother walk into the semi-finals. Tomorrow was to be the finals and he hoped it was his brother he was fighting.

Harry looked to Valiant "I still can't believe your brother is a coward. I guess it all went to his other half."

"Don't insult my twin."

"What he is scared you will lose and wanted me thrown out so you wouldn't fight me. You will lose and he knows it. He only doesn't want the kingdom to know it. Because he is ashamed of you."

Harry put his helm on ready to kill the man before him. But knew he needed to keep a clear head.

Uther smiled watching his son fighting Valiant. It was easy to see his son was the more skilled fighter and was winning. He watched when his son kicked the knight against the stands and slammed his shield into the knight. Only for everything to change there and not making any since.

Harry pushed his shield when he heard Valiant whisper. "Attack him."

"Bitesss himsss he sssayysss."

"What the?!" Harry exclaimed out loud to see the snake stop for a moment before their master commanded them to attack him. Harry had to move fast but wasn't fast enough as he felt the snake bite into his neck. The snake quickly vanished as fast as they came. Valiant pushed his shield back and quickly swung at Harry for him to roll out of the way. Getting to his feet stumbling. Harry started to attack he had to kill Valinate to keep his brother safe.

Valiant knew he had to act fast and started to fight as fast as he could and soon knocked Harry back knocking off his helmet. Only for him to sway on his feet. Harry looked at Valiant and quickly did a leg sweep making the man fall back. Harry then had his sword pointed to the mans throat. Valiant could not believe this he looked at the Prince in the eyes and looked as if his eyes where glowing only to fad back to his normal green color.

Harry's breath was heavy and he could feel his throat becoming tighter. He couldn't breath looked to his father with a look that sent a chill down the mans spine.

The crowd was cheering thinking the Prince was about to win the fight.

Uther was proud of his son. As he watched him pin Knight Valiant to the stands. Only for the fight to quickly change into Valiant's favor, but Harry was able to knock the knight down. Uther was getting anger that Harry paused and was stumbling. His anger was rising seeing his son losing. It did not make any since because he been winning, he would be pissed if Harry was throwing the fight. Uther had hoped and thought Harry would win this year. Having seen his sons sword skill improve leaps and bounds. He watched as his son turn to look at him, only to see the scared look in his sons eyes. Before he turned his head towards Arthur and fell to the ground.

Arthur ran onto the field as Knight Valiant was walking off with his hand in the air. Arthur got next to his brother. With Gaius soon next to him to help carry his brother to the castle. Sir Leon who lost to Arthur was next to him to help as well.

The crowd was silent for a moment before cheering. Many wanted to see the Prince win. So the cheers where half hearted. Uther looked to his guard "Go find out the news on what happen to my son and hurry." The guard nodded and ran off. They thought that the other Knight had just hit Harry hard enough in the head.

Merlin was sitting on the stone steps of the main square. Waiting for Gwen to get back, while trying to think how to fix everything. Soon Gwen showed up and they both worked to get the dog into the wheelbarrow. Mean while Merlin started to head back to physician's chambers. While trying to figure out the dragon's riddle. Looking to the event, Merlin smiled thinking maybe Harry would just take the knight out and they wouldn't have to worry at all. Only for those thoughts to vanish seeing Gaius running towards the castle with Arthur and a few knights behind carrying Prince Harry on a cot.. Merlin looked to the Prince who was now going passed him.. His face was pale and breathing uneven… Merlin was soon following after with the wheelbarrow and stone dog.

Arthur looked to Harry worried he felt a tight pain in his chest seeing his brother laying there not able to do anything for him.

Merlin rolled the dog statue into the physician's chambers. The guards where raising there eyebrows. "Gaius wants it." They shook their heads. Merlin thought the plan was genius, but there was enough time.

"What are you doing with that?" Gaius asked. "Get over here and help me." Merlin moved the dog towards his room then went to join Gaius.

Arthur looked to Merlin right next to Gaius now and thought back to what the boy told him earlier on… "Merlin I need you to get the antidote."

"We're just about out you will need more." Merlin stated before running off.

Arthur looked to them "What about the snake you killed yesterday."

Gaius sighed "we had to give Ewan the antidote yesterday. There is only a little bit left. I hope it will work faster since Ewan got his a couple days later.

"Sadly I can't get more, unless we find the same snake that has bitten Harry." Gaius said. "Now go.." Gaius said. "The faster Harry get it the less he may need. And it is in Ewan's room." Merlin took off running faster than his legs could carry him.

Arthur looked to Gaius "So the snake shield is true.."

"Yes Sire.. Sir Ewan would be awake but he been attacked which is why he is now out of it.. He should wake in a week or two weeks I hope. His body just needs to heal."

Arthur looked to see a guard walk in, "The king wants to know what is wrong with Harry?"

Arthur glared at the guard it was his fathers dam fault. "HE WAS BITTEN BY A SNAKE…" He said and the Guard took off running.

Gaius was walking over to Harry putting a cold cloth on the boy's head. Merlin ran back in with the bottle. "Gaius here." He handed it over.

Arthur looked at it then to Harry, "I have to go please watch over him."

Arthur took off and went to talk to his father.

Gaius looked to Merlin "So what is with the dog?"

"I'm going to let everyone see the snakes for themselves."

Merlin then wheeled the dog into his room and plopped down on her bed. "Please yell if someone comes into your chambers I will be practicing up here." He then removed a floorboard, which revealed Merlin's glorious magic book underneath. Merlin shut the door to his room.

Merlin looked to the dog and said, "Bebay odothay. Bebay odothay arisan quickum."

Nothing, he tried another spell. He kept trying. Merlin just had to get this right.

Merlin groaned after four hours the king showed up and Merlin taken a break putting the book under the pillow. He took off and entered Arthur's open chambers. The spells weren't working yet. So time to and convince Arthur to drop out. Merlin knew it wouldn't work but had to try.

"I thought I told you to get out of my sight." He said, barely looking up.

"Don't fight Valiant in the tournament tomorrow. He'll use the shield against you. Like he did to Harry."

"I know." Arthur said. He had come to the conclusion that Merlin was telling the truth. But that didn't change anything. The court still questioned his and Harry's sanity. The knights questioned his bravery. He questioned himself. Then there was his brother. Harry was beaten making them look weak.. He knew Valiant cheated. And his brother's life was in danger. He knew if he didn't find one of those snakes his brother would die. And all he wanted to do was to blame Merlin for this. If Merlin didn't point it out Valiant would have his guard down and they could get the snake with ease. And it was all Merlin's fault.

"Then withdraw. You have to withdraw."

"Don't you understand? I can't withdraw. The people expect their prince to fight. How can I lead men into battle if they think I'm a coward? Harry knew the danger and went in. I can't look weak."

"Look at what Valiant did to Harry. He will kill you. If you fight, you die."

"Then I die."

"How can you go out there and fight like that?" Merlin believed that he would, but he was a prince; future king and all that.

"Because I have to. It's my duty."

"It's your duty to die in a worthless tournament and leave the people with some crap king? Fine by me, but don't come crying when your throat is ripped out by a snake."

"If I kill one of his snakes Harry will be ok right."

Merlin turned shocked, "Yeah we be able to save both their life's."

"Good make sure Harry lives Merlin." Arthur sad dismissing Merlin.

Merlin walked off and knew they needed the spell now. Merlin stopped outside of Gaius Chambers.

"Sire can't you see Harry and Arthur been telling the truth. Your son should have won you and everyone says that. Only reason he lost was because he has been bitten by a snake.

"I must see proof. I want you to move Harry to his room. You will watch him there over night." That Uther left the room. He glared at Merlin walking by.

Merlin walked in seeing Gaius packing a bag for the night. "Be careful Merlin don't forget to take your tonic." Merlin raised an eyebrow to figure out he said that so the men don't think Magic. Merlin nodded walking over to the self and took the potion with her. Merlin walked into her room and got to work. Merlin muttered a spell with her eyes closed. She had worked through the night trying to find the right spell. She didn't know if the magic tired her or the lack of sleep, but she didn't think about it.

"Bebay odothay arisan quickum."

There was a growl and Merlin repeated the spell not hearing the growl. She heard a bark and jolted awake.

"I did it!" She yelled. The dog started to lung at her and she ran out the door, slamming it behind her. Gaius entered the room worriedly,

"Arthur's fighting Valiant!"

"I know. I'm on my way. Oh, whatever you do, don't go into my room. We'll deal with it later."

Gaius noticed something and cursed grabbing a potion took off after Merlin.

Arthur was fighting Valiant and it wasn't going good for Arthur. Merlin watching in horrified silence as Valiant penned Arthur to the wall. She sighed a breath of relief when Arthur pushed him off. She took this as an opportunity and said the spell. The snakes slithered slowly out of the shield and the crowd stood in fear and surprise.

"What are you doing? I didn't summon you!" Valiant yelled.

"He is using magic." Uther realized.

"And now they see you for what you really are." Arthur said loudly.

Valiant laughed evilly and sent the snakes to the ground. "Kill him!"

Arthur backed up toward the stands. He now had the Snakes to heal his brother just not a weapon to kill them with. Morgana grabbed a sword from the knight sitting next to her and threw it at Arthur.

"Arthur!" Morgana yelled and Arthur caught is spinning around he swung and killed the snakes.

Arthur quickly disarmed Valiant and then ran him through with the sword. He dropped the sword on the ground and sighed in relief. Arthur leaned in and whispered into Valiant's ear. "It looks like I'll be going to the feast after all."

Valiant dropped to the ground and the crowd went crazy. Chanting Arthur's name, whooping at his victory. Arthur raised his sword into the air. Merlin looked around and was the only one not cheering. Gaius walked over handing her the potion. "Hurry and take it you foolish child." Merlin nodded and downed it. Only for it to finish as Arthur exited the arena with the snake head in hand. He looked to Merlin and nodded. Merlin rolled his eyes. It wasn't a thank you but the best he would get from the prince.

Arthur turned to Gaius "You can help Harry now right?"

"Yes sire I will get to work right away. Merlin follow me."

Merlin looked to Arthur to see him heading off to take his award. Unknown none of the glory mattered to him or the prize money the fact his brother will be safe was important.

Uther looked at his son smiling. "My people Arthur has done us a great job today. Not only has he won the tournament. He has killed the man who cheated using magic. He has done this before having our Knight Ewan, and Prince Harry attacked in a cheating way. By Arthur killing the snakes Gaius will be able to heal the kingdoms Prince and Knight. Arthur you more than deserve this reward." Arthur stepped forward and kneeled taking his reward.

The banquet hall was filled with people, including Merlin. Only ones that wasn't there was Prince Harry and Knight Ewan. Both where sleeping still. But seemed on the way to recovery.

"My honorable guests, I give you Prince Arthur, your champion." Uther said and the court applauded. Merlin watched as Arthur and Morgana began to talk.

"See, I told you he gets all the girls and the glory." Merlin said, nudging Gaius's arm.

"And he owes it all to you."

Merlin was smiling as Morgana and Arthur's conversation turned to banter. Like it normally did. Harry was the one who could keep them from fighting. Though it seemed both looked down. He watched Morgana stormed off to find Gwen and Arthur came over to her. He leaned next to Merlin and sighed. Merlin looked to Arthur and raised an eyebrow.

"Can you believe Morgana? She says she saved me. Like I needed any help." He said. "I wanted to say I made a mistake. It was unfair to sack you."

"No, don't worry about it. Get me some food from the kitchen and call it even. Or better yet lets go to the Tavern. You can buy me a drink." She complained.

"Uh, I can't be seen buying my servant a drink or getting you food."

"Your servant? You sacked me."

"Now I'm rehiring you."

Merlin snorted. "There goes me getting a drink… Or some good food."

"My chambers are a complete mess. My clothes need washing. My, uh, armor needs repairing. My boots need cleaning. My dogs need exercising. My fireplace needs sweeping. My bed needs changing. And someone needs to muck out my stables."

Merlin raised his eyebrow. "Arthur you are just listing things off so you can try and scare me."

Arthur looked "And I need you to take care of Harry first and foremost till he is better."

Merlin saw the worried look under his pride he had. "Don't worry I will protect him."

Arthur smiled and laughed like it was silly. But Merlin saw what looked like a weight was lifted off his shoulders. Arthur walked away to talk to all the admirers. And to talk to his father. Merlin stood in the back watching. Only Gwen coming to chit-chat made his day.

A/N: Ok, thank you one an all for you kind comments for me to get better from the car accident. I will let you know they think I have a tear in my shoulder and rotator cuff tear. And my spine is messed up to which I need to get worked on. Weird part I am now 3 inches shorter. Yes I know hard to believe but my spine is messed up and now curved. Most don't believe me. I didn't till I stood next to a friend I was taller than and all a sudden looking them in the eyes. I used to be 5'10 so not happy about this. They said they should be able to fix it. May have to have surgery on my shoulder. They still not found out what is wrong with my neck.

So I can only write so much. Other note I hated Sir Valiant I hate the episode… Any way please let me know what you think.
