IRON CROSS
PROLOGUE
.
Sorrow. Death.
No one goes safe.
The ear deafening bangs from guns and cannons.
The piercing sound of machine guns.
The planes flying above our heads.
Bombing the houses to small pieces along with humans.
Women, children, the older ones, all waiting for us to come home to them.
No one will survive this.
For those who does, they said they feel more at home out on the western front.
They go back.
And die.
Bullets flying everywhere. Planes throwing bombs down on us.
Our Führer have told us this. This is how it was out on the lines between France and Germany.
The Austria-Hungary nation combining their power together.
But I am the last soilder from Prussia. The last living man that fought to overpower the countries around us.
But…
One mistake took us to where we are now. A nonexistent country. Only a landscape with a sad story behind.
Though my comrades are long gone from me, I still remember as if it was yesterday when we were into war.
I and along with other men, were given the Iron Cross-Eisernes Kreuz-.
I have survived. My friends didn't.
I feel empty and useless as I watch the last breath being taken.
And then. He stops.
His chest remains unmoving. Not going up and down.
I scream.
Scream and scream and scream.
Why can't this just stop!
But no one answer me.
I'm alone.
The last soldier and the last Iron Cross bearing man.
Francis Bonnefoy, a friend of mine. French governor with a charm for ladies. He confronted med and treated a wound from a bullet in my shin.
Antonio Fernandez Carriedo, a man with a big heart who moved from his home country, Spain, to attend the war. I met him while patrolling the forest.
And me, Gilbert Weillschimdt, former soldier and Iron Cross bearer have now got a new mission.
Together with my comrades we will serve our new alliance.
I was attended in the last year of the first world war at the age of 15.
Together with other boys in my age we got away with our lives.
But we knew that this was not the end.
A new Führer soon took his place as the new leader.
Ten years later I find myself in a royal blue uniform, black leather gloves and matching hat with the black Swastika cross.
I saw how the Jews got lined up and was shot to death.
Children, women, men… all of them.
Dead.
But it wasn't only them. Civil people got killed as well.
For what use?
Innocent people got killed.
But it will get even worse.
This is only the beginning of World War II.
