Dismantle. Repair. -Anberlin

Kurt was quiet the following day. He kept to his room and pretended to be asleep when Sam came knocking early that morning to offer him breakfast. After his date with Chandler, Kurt was left feeling off. He couldn't shake the guilt he had felt the night before. Kurt enjoyed himself with Chandler, even the Sebastian spotting didn't ruin his evening. He had still felt guilty about the date being with someone other than Blaine. The revelation angered Kurt, he hated that even after a couple months he still didn't know how to be without Blaine in his life. Chandler was attractive and a good person but the fact of the matter was, he wasn't Blaine.

Most of Kurt's morning and early afternoon was spent crying into his pillow. He had held onto the possibility that Blaine would come back to him, that he would take Kurt back. After his chat with Rachel the night before, Kurt was starting to come to terms with the idea of never getting back with Blaine.

"Kurt, do you still love Blaine?" Rachel had asked.

Kurt didn't reply immediately, letting the dead air hang around them. "I can't love him anymore, Rachel. It hurts too much."

"Then, maybe going out with Chandler was good then. If you want to get over Blaine then go for it."

Kurt sniffled and wiped his eyes. "But. But I thought you said Blaine might come back to me."

"And he might. But you can't sit around waiting for that to happen. It's unfair to you. And as much I would live to see you two have a fairy tale ending, I can't stand to see you like this. Or well, hear you like this. You're an amazing person, Kurt. It's time someone else got to see that. You need to do you, and be happy." Rachel said.

Oh how he wished his best friend could be here in person. He could use a Rachel Berry hug right about now. Kurt picked at the carpet on the floor in bedroom.

"Do you think he still wants me?" Kurt's voice broke. "What if I date someone else and he comes back?"

"Kurt. Listen to yourself. You can't hold onto a what if, forever. I know I said that maybe one day you and Blaine might get back together but I don't think you should mope around hardly living in the mean time. You deserve to be happy Kurt. He'd want you to be happy."

Kurt let out a long sigh, "Then why did he break up with me?"

"Kurt."

"I know." Kurt said with small dry laugh. "I know, I'm sorry. God, I really have over stayed my welcome at this pity party. It's moving toward pretty pathetic party, now."

"Just promise me you'll be more open. Don't think about the negatives, only the positives. Chandler seemed very nice when we met him last spring. And it doesn't even have to be Chandler. It might be some other guy you meet in a coffee shop. Just try and be happy. You're in New York for crying out loud!"

They laughed. Kurt agreed and the two spent the rest of their time discussing NYADA. Rachel was already putting together her application for admittance next spring. She went over audition ideas while Kurt listened and gave his input. It was nice to talk and think about something other than Blaine for a change.

It was unfair that he was still affected like this, and Kurt hated this weak feeling that he couldn't seem to shake. He had given Blaine so much, and would literally have done anything for him only to be thanked by Blaine breaking his heart. But Rachel was right, he needed to move on and be happy. Maybe after today though, this would be the final day Kurt Hummel mourned the loss of Blaine Anderson.

By the time Kurt had watched Moulin Rouge for the third consecutive time that day, his phone vibrated, alerting him of a new text, on the pillow beside him in bed. Kurt reached for his phone, thinking it must be Rachel or even Sam trying to stir Kurt from his sorrow. As he glanced down at the name, Kurt's heart sank a little. Chandler's named appeared and Kurt wasn't sure he was ready to have any kind of conversation with the boy. At least not until after Moulin Rouge was over.

Chandler (2:14pm): Hey cutie! Wanted to see if you were up for a late lunch or coffee :)

Kurt didn't return the text right away. He stared at the invite a few minutes and tried to think up an excuse to not go. As his fingers moved across the screen to type up a reason for him to not meet up with Chandler, Kurt heard a tiny nagging voice in his head that sounded an awful like Rachel Berry.

Kurt Hummel! It's been four months and you're still moping around feeling sorry for yourself? You can't let him ruin your time in New York, shake him off and go for it! Be happy!

Kurt quickly deleted his way out and typed out a new reply.

Kurt (2:25pm): Yeah, of course. How about 3:30?

Chandler (2:26pm): I'll be there. Usual place?

Kurt (2:26pm): Sounds good. See you there.

This didn't give Kurt much time to get ready or hide the bags under his eyes, but he hopped in the shower quickly and bustled around his room trying to finish getting ready. By the time Kurt was finished he looked to his watch that read 3:18. That didn't leave Kurt much time to get to their coffee house which was about six blocks away. He raced out the door giving a quick good bye to Sam and stuck his hand out for a taxi.

It took Kurt a few tries to actually hail one, but once he managed to do so they were off. Even though Kurt took a cab to the coffee house, he still managed to walk in out of breath. He looked around. No sign of Chandler. Kurt glanced at his phone, it said 3:34 but wait there was also a text.

Chandler (3:20pm): Hey, sorry I'm running a little behind. I'll be there closer to 4. I'm really sorry, save a spot for me!

Kurt groaned and and walked up to the counter. He could have spent more time on his outfit and his hair, and wouldn't have had to feel so rushed. Maybe he should have said for them to meet at 4 in the first place. He took his coffee and went to occupy some of the large comfy chairs that sat off in the corner. He sank into them unexpectedly and Kurt nearly dropped his coffee.

He glanced down at his watch and let out a sigh. Still had fifteen minutes until Chandler would be expected to arrive. He sipped his coffee and took out his phone, flipping through instagram, smiling as he saw the newest pictures of Finn and Rachel. He really did miss them.

"Sitting in a coffee house in the late afternoon alone, browsing through your phone." A voice said. It wasn't Chandler. Kurt felt his face start to heat up he glanced up to see Sebastian smirking at him. "You could at least try to be less pathetic."

Kurt's eyes narrowed. "If we're talking about pathetic we should examine your habits of stalking me."

Sebastian scoffed. "I told you this happens to be close to the firm I'm interning at, I was here first you followed me."

"I didn't, and wouldn't, follow you anywhere." Kurt shot back.

"Keep telling yourself that, babe." Sebastian winked and sipped his coffee. For a moment Kurt imagined taking the coffee and spilling it over Sebastian.

"Whatever. Could you just leave, please?"

This made Sebastian chuckle and take a seat, much to Kurt's displeasure. "Oh. I get a please. Interesting. So let me guess you're meeting that four eyed loser again, are you?"

Kurt sat up in his chair trying to be taller than the sitting Sebastian, but it hardly worked. "Not that it's any of your business but yes. I am. And he's not a four eyed loser." Kurt's jaw clenched all of his energy into glaring at Sebastian.

"That's a matter of opinion." He snarked back at Kurt, grinning as Kurt's nostril's flared. "Where's Prince Charmgay anyway?" Sebastian stretched his neck to try and locate Chandler in the coffee house.

"He's running behind." Kurt smacked his lips. "Why am I even telling you this. Go away, Sebastian."

Sebastian's gaze went back to Kurt. "And miss all the fun shades of red your face is turning? No way. This is fun."

The mentioning of his face only made Kurt blush, adding to the already red in his cheeks from the anger that always came out whenever Sebastian Smythe was around. Kurt tried not to break eye contact with Sebastian, not wanting to back down but he couldn't take it anymore especially when Sebastian gave him a smug smirk. Knowing that he was getting to Kurt.

"Fine. I'll move then if you won't." Kurt said standing up in one swift motion.

"Come on, Hummel relax. I'll leave, I'll leave." Sebastian rolled his eyes and held his hands up in surrender. "Need to get back anyway."

They were both standing only a foot and a half away from each other. Kurt had to tilt his head back just a little to look up at Sebastian. It wasn't something he was used to doing. Blaine came just below his eye level and Chandler was pretty much the same height. The fact that Kurt had to look up at Sebastian made him feel small. He didn't let that show on his face though.

"Good." Was all Kurt managed to get out.

Sebastian chuckled lightly and shook his head. "See you around Princess."

Kurt's gaze flickered over to the door, Chandler had just walked in. Sebastian followed Kurt's gaze. He arched a brow as the other boy spotted Kurt and waved making his way over. Sebastian turned back to Kurt.

"I stand by what I said before. You could do better." Sebastian pursed his lips and left before Kurt could even think up a response.

"Hey." Chandler approached, out of breath. "Who was that?" He asked, still with a smile on his face.

Kurt sighed. "No one. Some idiot who was at my old college in Ohio."

"He looked an awful like that French tourist guy." Chandler said looking after Sebastian as he left the coffee house.

Kurt suddenly remembered the first time he had run into Sebastian. His face heated up again. "That was him then too." Kurt confessed. "He gets on my nerves to no end. I swear he gets off on making me miserable."

Chandler tilted his head to the side and watched Kurt a moment. "Want me to beat him up?" He asked.

This made Kurt laugh. He looked to Chandler and shook his head, taking a seat again."No. No that won't be necessary, but thank you for the offer."

"I can do it you know. I took self defense classes in junior high and high school." Chandler set his bag on the floor and sat down in the chair angled toward the one Kurt sat in, the one Sebastian occupied minutes before.

"Really?" Kurt asked, genuinely curious.

"Yeah. I had some of the jocks who wouldn't leave me alone so my parents gave me self defense lessons. I never kicked anyone's ass but it made my parents feel better, and I guess myself knowing I can at least protect myself." Chandler replied. He crossed his legs on the chair and smiled across at Kurt.

"Maybe I should go back in time and see if my Dad would set me up for some." Kurt commented.

Chandler nodded. He pushed his glasses up on his face. "Are you okay?"

Kurt's brow furrowed. "Yes? Why do you ask?"

"Well," Chandler's smile faded a little. "You seemed kind of off by the end our date last night. I hope I didn't cross any lines I shouldn't have."

Kurt inhaled and held the breath for a moment. "No." He exhaled softly. "No, Chandler it wasn't anything you did. I was...my mind was elsewhere I'm sorry about that. I promise it won't happen again. I had a really great time last night."

Chandler didn't appear to believe Kurt at first. He looked down at his hands. "Kurt. I know you still like Blaine. But, could you try to give us a chance? I mean, I hope I'm not the only one who thinks we sort of have something between us." He said with a shrug. "Like, a spark. I don't know if you feel it. I hope you do."

Kurt felt uncomfortable discussing such a private matter in public, even around strangers he probably never see again. He shifted a little in his seat and lifted his chin into the air, trying to make it seem as though none of this bothered him.

"I know." Kurt replied. "That is to say, I feel something too which is why I think it's harder for me at this point. I really do like you, Chandler."

"But..?" Chandler's voice almost broke.

"But you're right. There are still bits of Bl..him in my head and my heart. I'm trying to get rid of them. It's difficult but I need to be happy again. I can't live my life sulking forever watching Moulin Rouge on repeat.."

"You were watching it on repeat weren't you?"

"Not the point I'm trying to make." Kurt said shaking his head. "I want to move on, and I want to do that with you. I know you said only if I complication free, but I don't know when they'll all go away."

Chandler's lips stretched across his face into another goofy over excited grin. The one he usually seemed to wear. "Really?" His voice a little louder than it needed to be.

Kurt put a finger to his lips to try and get the boy's voice back down to a normal level. Chandler bounced in his seat. "Does this mean we're...like officially..." Chandler leaned in trying to get Kurt to say the word.

Kurt scoffed and rolled his eyes, unable to control a smile from spreading. "Dating. Yes, but only if you can-"

"Kurt." Chandler reached out and grabbed his hand, weaving their finger's together. Kurt's stomach fluttered. "I won't do anything you're not ready for. I think I can handle a few complications. Long as they aren't serious ones. I'm just happy you want to call us boyfriends."

Kurt's cheeks flushed and he ducked his head a little, glancing down to their hands intertwined. Along with the fluttering there was that sinking feeling again. No. Stop. Kurt told himself. It's not Blaine's hand but get over it. He's not here. Chandler is. Be happy.

Be happy.
