Macao raises his arm and points his palm at Dragneel's face. "EAT THIS! PURPLE FLARE!" A beam of purple flame blasts out of his palm.
The Great Demon King smirks. "Don't mind if I do," he says as he swallows the flames. Romeo watched in horror as Dragneel slurped the last of his father's flames. "I'm all fired up!" he said before snapping Macao's neck.
"DAD!" Romeo screamed. Rage consumed his very being. His eyes, full of tears, darted from his father's dead body to the demon that had killed him. "I'LL KILL YOU!" Romeo leaped, hands coated with flames, toward Dragneel ready to fight. The Demon King laughed and punched Romeo in the face launching him into the forests outside the castle.
"ROMEO!" Max yelled. "YOU BASTARD! SAND REBELLION!" Sand was fired at Dragneel, who easily dodged.
"KARYU NO HOKO!" In an instant, Max was vaporized. Dragneel smiled and burst out into evil laughter as he slaughtered person after person.
"TORNADO SHOT!" Swirling winds hit the Demon King in the back.
"HOMING SHOT!" A light slithered towards the dark wizard and exploded. The light blinded everyone.
"Did we get him?" Alzack asked. An eerie silence answered him. "Bisca? Where are you?"
"A…L…" was all she could manage to say before collapsing to the floor with a smoking hole in her chest where her heart once was.
"BISCA!" Alzack ran to her side and held her limp body in his arms. A dark figure stood behind him carrying the charred remains of his beloved's heart.
"I guess I stole her heart!" Dragneel laughed hysterically before crushing the charred heart and raising his fist to strike. "KARYU NO TEKK-"
"ICE MAKE SHIELD!" A dome of ice protected Alzack from the fiercesome fist. An excited smile spread across the Demon King's face. He turned to see the widower's savior.
"Your magic smells familiar, have you ever been to the Northern Continent?"
"Great Demon King Dragneel. We finally meet." Gray unsheathed his sword to reveal ancient runes engraved into the blade. "Alzack, tell everyone to stand ready inside the castle." Alzack didn't move from his wife. Or rather, he couldn't. He was frozen in despair. "ALZACK! THINK OF ASUKA! SHE CAN'T AFFORD TO LOSE YOU TOO!" Alzack seemed to hear this. Tears streamed down his face. "Alzack, this is my last order to you, tell everyone to prepare defenses inside the castle. After that, go find Asuka and get out of here. NOW GO!"
Alzack got up slowly, fists clenched. "Yes sir," he said before running off to pass on the Captain's orders.
"You really think I'm going to let him get away?" He breathed in deeply and his cheeks filled with flames. "KARYU NO HOKO!"
Gray stood in the way of the breath attack and swiped it with his sword, freezing it instantly. "Don't you get it Dragneel. I'm your opponent now."
"I swear that magic smells so familiar…" The Great Demon King stood and thought for a moment. "OH! Are you a student of Ul perhaps?" Dragneel smiled maliciously.
Gray went wide-eyed. "How do you know Ul?" He dreaded the answer.
"YOU ARE! How exciting! I get to kill another one of that Icy Bitch's students. If you did study under her, perhaps you knew a Lyon Bastia as well?"
"LYON! WHAT DID YOU DO!?" Gray was trembling with rage. The sword was visibly shaking in his hand.
"I killed him of course!" He burst out laughing. "He happened to be protecting a couple of sexy princesses I was after. Ha! My mouth is drooling at the thought of them. So beautiful!" He wiped his mouth hungrily. Gray stood there wide eyed and grinding his teeth, repulsed by the monster he saw in front of him. "Sorry, I can get a little carried away when it comes to delicious princesses. Where was I? Oh yes, your friend stood the gallant protector and fought with that magic you learned from Ul. He was so proud of it. Made him look quite the fool when I ripped his arms off and he couldn't make anything. He just laid there, bleeding to death, as I took his princesses away." Dragneel broke into another fit of laughter, but was cut off by a flying saucer of ice. "Oi, oi, play fair now!" He smiled darkly and looked menacingly as the real fight began.
"I'll end you Dragneel," Gray said fiercely as he sheathed his blade. "But I won't stain my sword with your unworthy blood. I'll beat you with Ul's magic. Prepare yourself Dragneel, today is the day you die."
"That's the Great Demon King Dragneel to you Icy Dick."
And with that, they launched towards each other and began to trade blows. Punches and kicks of fire and ice collided and destroyed their surroundings. Walls fell, floors collapsed, windows shattered, the earth itself shook in the wake of their battle. It had been so long since Dragneel had ever been this excited or had so much fun. He hasn't felt like this since he fought the Knights of Shadow and Light. His blood boiled for a worthy foe. An ice hammer appeared above his head. Before it crashed down on him, he used his fiery breath to melt it. A mist covered the field of battle, visibility was zero. Gray took a defensive stance, wondering where that monster could be. Dragneel knew exactly where Gray was thanks to his sense of smell and used it to his advantage. Gray sensed it a split second too late, and suffered a powerful punch to the face, his flesh boiled, the pain was immeasurable, but he fought through it. He grabbed Dragneel's arm, created a blade of ice, and stabbed him through the stomach. This was the first time the Demon King had ever been injured since he adopted that name. The mist had cleared and the two separated from each other. They felt their respective wounds. The Demon King felt the warm blood leaking from the wound in his belly. Gray felt his soon to be scarred face and coated it with ice. He smiled. He knew he had made a decisive blow. The Demon King is human, lose that much blood and even that monster was sure to die. At least one would think so. Gray watched as the wound on Dragneel was engulfed in black flame. When the flame burnt out, the wound had completely healed and the Demon King's face had become darker. If it were possible, more evil.
"Enough fooling around, time to finish this," Dragneel said as he raised his head. Gray noticed a distinct change in the tone of his voice, and his eyes…
Princess Lucy sat on her throne, worrying it had been silent for far too long. She heard the last attack over a half hour ago. If they had stopped the enemy forces, why hadn't they reported back yet? And if they were annihilated, why hadn't the Demon King come looking for her? Where was her Captain? Where was Gray? He promised he would return to her side. She was growing even more worried and more impatient. Finally, when it had been an hour since they had heard fighting, she decided she had enough.
"Loke! Can you please see what's happeni-" she began to say, as the door slowly creaked open. She saw the hilt of Gray's blade, started to smile, and leapt off her throne. And as she looked up to find her victorious Captain's eyes, she found those of a demon's instead.
"Hello Princess, ready to be my Queen?"
Meanwhile, in the forests outside of Magnolia, a hungry Forest Vulcan eyes up an unconscious, heavily wounded boy. The beast foamed at the mouth as he got closer and closer. He reached out to grab his dinner and…BAM! The Vulcan was knocked out with a single punch.
"Can you believe he was about to eat the poor boy? Guess that's the wild for you. What do you make of him, is he alive?" said a tall, tanned man.
"He's alive, but only barely, this is definitely Natsu's work. We are so close! But if we don't get this boy attention soon, he'll die." The white hair beauty looked on the injured boy and tears began to well up in her eyes.
"Well, what should we do…Lady Lisanna?"
"We have to save him. But we can't let Natsu slip through our fingers again! We have to save him too!"
"Yes my Lady. That is why she insisted on staying with Princess Lucy at all costs." The man smiled sadly.
"I'm so sorry Gildarts. I never wanted Cana involved in this, and now she's in even more danger than we ever were. I'm so sorry." Lisanna cried over the body of Romeo as she began to remember that fateful day. The day she ran away with her beloved, Natsu.
Back at the castle, Cana stood hidden in the throne room, waiting to see the situation unfold.
I'm not a huge fan of this chapter myself, but it had to be done. Let me know what you think through reviews and PMs.
