CHAPTER 1

He stood alone, or as alone as he was on a piles of dead body. Some were still breathing, but he doubt they would much longer.

So he stood alone, until...

"Juudaime"

"Tsuna"

"Boss"

"Young Vongola"

Hearing the sound of his name being called, Tsuna looked through the empty space where glasses used to be, finally catching sights of his Guardians running toward him. They were still outside the ballroom though. Had yet to see the full extend of the massacre he had made.

His favorite suit were no longer white but dyed blood red. He lost his cape somewhere in the mess. The blood splashed on his face only serve to him look more terrifying. His eyes were also red, veins popping out. His hair was a mess, darken with dripping blood. His dark orange Flame flickered out just before the Guardians reached the main entrance to the ballroom.

Good timing, guys. Too good timing, in fact!

His Guardians just stood there, dumfound and shocked at the sight before their eyes. Never before in their mafioso life did they witnessed such destruction caused by one person, not even Byakuran's: the celling was blown away, patches on the wall were still burning, or smoking or simple has burned out. Little glass blocks and cubes everywhere. Tables broken into pieces. Food thrown all over the place. The thick, nauseating stench of blood and burn flesh was delivered directly into their nose and mouth, made their eyes water. Some gagged uncontrollably, namely Chrome and Lambo.

And standing in the middle of his own destruction was their beloved Boss.

He dropped onto his knees, panting heavily. No one moved a muscle. Which was what he had expected. He would have been as stunt as they were right now. But it still hurt, a lot.

His head throbbed. He was so dizzy and tired, everything, including his Guardian, kept swimming and waving in front of his eyes. The heat in his blood hadn't fade, heating up his whole body in the most torturous way. He never felt this bad, not even when Daemon broke all the bones in his body. The feeling of being helpless, not even in control of his own body. Finally he puked his gut out. His sick splattered all over the bodies on the ground.

He swayed dangerously a few more second and finally giving up to the darkness, barely aware of a pair of strong arms catching him, scooped him up quickly just before his body hit the ground.

'I screwed up. Bad' was the last thought in his muddled head.

VONGOLA MANSION

The tenth boss of Vongola Famiglia sat alone in the dark, the pale blue lights from his PC made his face look pale, tired and sickly, which is pretty much what he felt at that moment. His small furry companion sprawling accross his lap looked at him with concern and worry.

"Gao"

"I'm fine Natsu" the brunette gave his partner a reassured smile while gently pet Natsu's warm orange-glowing mane "Thank you for your concern. I'm fine. I think..."

"Nyah"

"I know I know… Just a little bit more... then I'm going to bed."

The lion cub growled one more time before retreating back to his ring. The brunette's lips curled into a small smile then disappeared when he looked at a frame on his desk. His friend's smiling face stared back at him, made him all queasy and nauseous. He quickly turned the frame face-down on the desk. He couldn't stand to look at it anymore.

"To be optimistic, at least they still learn to be happy without me" He mumbled to himself before falling sleep. The sound of cheery voices from the living room kept echoing in his aching head.

A couple of months ago, the whole Vongola Mansion was exploded with joy as Federico, the oldest son of Vongola Nono mysteiously came back after MIA for 10 years. He had everybody's full attention. People greeted him, talked to him since he literally just returned from death. He told them, as dramatically as he could get, of how much danger he was in, how hard he had fought his way back to home. Everyone hung onto his every word. They couldn't help but sympathized and admired him. Not so surprising, anyway.

Of course Vongola Decimo, being who he was, welcomed Federico with open arms since he was such a natural-caring guy. He tried his best to make Nonno's eldest comfortable, treated him kindly and caringly like a real brother. He had taken Federico's position of the tenth Vongola boss away from him after all.

But sadly it was the smallest problem he had.

There were growing rumors among the mafia world about what happened that night. He Guardians had done the cleaning job well. They did. But an entire Famiglia wiped out in one night would raise questions.

No one know he was there that night since it wasn't an official visit. And Tsuna was known for always decline meeting and party invitations on Christmas nights.

No one knew he was involved, didn't mean no one suspected. There was whispers that Vongola was too afraid of the other Famiglia's rising influence, that they was only the victim.

Victim? Make he want to laugh. The one who should have died wasn't even dead.

Rumors? Whispers? Nightmares? Guilt? He can deal. Story of his life.

The distance bulding up between him and his Guardian, however, was killing him. Fast.

Thirteen months and a week had passed. A whole month he spent on his bed, sleeping off the remainding drug in his system, completely alone asides from the occational visits of Shaman, Shoichi, his butler Vince and supprisingly, Hibari. He tried not to dwelled on the fact too much, kept telling himself that they need space, so he should gave them space. That they were doing what they had to do.

Hibari kept to himself during his visits, just sat quietly in the corner to read and watch over Tsuna as he slept or conversed with him on some concerned Vongola matters. Tsuna never dared to ask him what he thought had happened that night. He also never asked about the other Guardians, mostly settled on spending their time together in comforting silence.

As his body finally healed up, he left his sacred sleeping quarter, only to find the increasing mountain of paperwork.

And that he didn't have best friends anymore.

He barely saw them, only caught a sight of them here and there in the Mansion. He tried to catch up with them but they all disappeared fast. They kept going on continuous missions with little break in between. Gone was the Family dinner, gone was many joyous nights together. Hibari still swung by sometimes but that was few and far in between.

He knew he had to pay for his sin that night somehow. But this was too much.

Everything was even worse when Federico came back. He was everywhere in the Mansion. He was in the dining room, he was in the gamesroom, he was on the roof. He walked the Mansion as if he owned the land. Which Tsuna figured, in a sense he did. Federico was here first, being born and raised at the Mansion. Tsuna and his Guadians only moved here after they turned 18. He was even more irritated when Federico started to attend Vongola's top private meetings, much to the young boss's reluctance. He stumbled upon Federico literaly everywhere, at which point he decided to just holed up in his office days and nights, signing papers after papers and only went out if nessesary.

He barely ate, he barely slept. The only time he slept, nightmares haunted his dreams. his health decreased visibly but no one ever notice. Since no one was ever around.

The brunette woke up only to find himself on the bed instead of his desk as usual. A wet cloth was on his forehead. He tiled his head to the side, looked at the clock on the wall. Twelve o'clock.

Twelve….

"What?" He suddenly sat up and immediately regretted: his head was throbbing and pounding like hell. He tried to keep himself still then gave in, fell back into his bed.

'How did I get into my bed?' He wondered.

"Oh Decimo, I see you're awake" the door slammed open, reveal a middle-age man in butler suit. "You gave us quite a fright last night, sir"

"Mr. Greco? What happened?" asked Tsuna.

"Well, the Cavallone boss and Shimon boss dropped by yesterday."

"You mean Dino-san and Enma?"

"Yes, sir. They couldn't find you in the living room or the dining room so they guessed you must be doing your paperwork. They walked to your office and found you lying on the floor unconscious…" He paused for a second "…then they informed your Guardians. It's Cavallone Boss who carried you to your bed, sir."

"I see", said the brunette

At that moment, the double doors slammed open again made Tsuna jump.

"Little brother! I heard you awake. Feeling better now?" a familiar messy blond hair appeared, behind him was a timid-looking redhead. They both had the panicked look mixed with relief.

"Are you OK?" asked the red head. Tsuna nodded quietly, gave them an assuring smile. He tried to sit up again only to be pushed down by the blond. The butler quietly retreated to give them some privacy and went fetching Decimo's lunch.

"Sorry for not greeting you two properly last night. I.."

"It's fine, little brother" Dino interrupted "It can't help since you are not feeling well"

"You'd better take some rest, Tsuna-kun. I see you've been overworking yourself recently" said Enma with concern.

The brunette winced. He did? His hand clenched the cover hard. But was it enough to have his friends back?

"Little brother?" called the Cavallone boss worriedly. Enma flinched at his best friend's expression on his face.

"My Guardians…" Tsuna looked away, half-expected to hear the answer "Did you see them?"

The Bronco frowned but still answered Tsuna's question "They visited you when you was sleeping then left for their new mission" It was quite hard for Dino to believe that Tsuna's Guardians were not with him while he was seriously ill, especially a certain right-hand man.

"Oh, obviously" the brunette sighed 'what else did I hope?'

"Hey Tsuna-kun! What happened between you guys? It's odd not seeing Gokudera around. And where the hell Federico came from? I thought he was dead"

"Long story" Tsuna sighs "which I have no energy to tell, seriously"

"Little bro…" Dino stunned when he heard the sound of someone clearing his throat.

"I'm truly sorry for interrupting but…" the butler stood behind the two guests with a tray of food in his hand "I think it's time for Decimo to have his lunch."

"Oh yeah, it's lunch time anyway" Dino sheepishly scratched the back of his head "I guess we're going for lunch now. Take some rest, little brother. We gonna talk later, OK?"

"Rest well, Tsuna-kun" Enma waved his hand at the brunette before walking out of the room with the Bronco.

"Thank you for coming, you two" The brunette waved back at the retreating figures then let out a sigh.

"It's time for lunch, sir." The dedicated butler informed again then helped him to sit upright.

"I don't feel like eating now, maybe later" mumbled the Decimo while looking at his lap.

"You need to, Decimo. You haven't eaten properly. That's why you got sick so easily, sir" The butler scolded him fatherly, which warmed his heart a little "Eat then please take the medicine Dr. Shamal prepared for you. Then you can rest as long as you please, sir"

The butler put the tray in front of him on his lap, readied to spoonfeed if he dared refuse. The brunette blushed in embarrassment for being treated like a naughty sick child. He picked the spoon to start eating. Then he stopped and looked at the other's eyes.

"What did I say about formality?" said the brunette. He simply couldn't get used to people treating him with respect after so many years being called Dame-Tsuna and things.

"Not to use it, si… I mean Tsuna-sama" answered the butler.

"Drop the sama. We're in Italy, ain't we?" Tsuna finished with a grin "Tsuna is fine!"

"As you wish" the older man was reluctant at first but added "And you could call me Uncle Vince if you want, Tsuna"

"Ok, Uncle Vince then" Tsuna gave the other occupant a genuine smile and back to his meal. When he finished, the butler carried the tray with dirty dishes away then gave him some medicine and a glass of water. He tucked the Decimo to his bed, readjusted the wet cloth on Tsuna's forehead then retreating to let Tsuna rest.

He failed to see the elder man watched him with troubled eyes just before he shut the door.

Being left alone in his huge room, Tsuna couldn't help feeling… lonely. His head was still throbbing hard, which definitely didn't help him feel better. His eyelids were heavier and heavier. Finally, he gave in to the sleepiness and fell into unconsciousness.
