A/N: Okay, so we are now one third through this story! I hope that excites you guys as well! Now, my goal this summer is to finish this story, so fingers crossed everyone! Also, I just realized that I have not once said anything about her cat, Crookshanks; but now I will. So sorry that it's taken me so long to post this chapter! My computer was at Best Buy for over a month since my USB ports stopped working; and I'm not even sure they still work if I'm being completely honest. The whole reason my laptop was in the shop was because my stupid dog is shedding and she got dog hair all up in my laptop. Anyways, I'm starting my classes in less than two weeks, the 25th of August, so I might not be able to post the next couple of chapters as quickly. Thanks for sticking with me on this, it and you guys mean a lot to me. Oh, I figure I should tell you guys where exactly I'm at on this in words and pages. With nine chapters, we are at 34, 119 words and 88 pages; that is without the author's notes. My finally working on Chapter 10, it's just I've started a new college and applying for nursing school is coming up fast.

Chapter Nine: Hogsmeade Trip

The Monday after the first Quidditch game, I had received a letter from my biological mother and father saying that there would be a ball thrown in my honor in a little over two weeks with Auror protection for all of the students. The ball was not only going to be in my honor but also for Draco's and my birthday. I was also told one, to ask my adoptive (real) parents to see if they would come and two, that the party is going to be formal. That very day, I went and wrote a letter to my parents. This was the first letter I have sent them since finding out what happened to me when I was a baby since I was so angry with them.

Dear mum and dad,

Hi, I know it's been ages since you have heard from me but frankly I have been very angry with you two since finding out about my heritage. Though, I want you to know that no matter how mad I am at you guys, you will always be my parents. Professor Dumbledore explained the whole situation to me and I how can I be mad at you guys since this was all to help Harry. Thank you for the birthday wishes, I was extremely touched that you sent a letter with everything going on. I want you guys to know what has been going on in my life. My school work has been going excellent and the whole school was shocked, as was I, when they found out I was a Malfoy. Heck, you guys knew how much Draco and I hated each other! Though, we are now doing much better and he has been a very good brother to me. Of course, we still have our fights but what brother and sister don't?

Harry and Ron are doing well. Harry and I have been cracking down on all of the students here since we have become Perfects. Do you guys remember me telling you about Ron's enormous family? Well, his younger sister, Ginny – she's a fellow Gryffindor – and a Slytherin have started dating and it has thrown the whole school into a loop. Theodore Nott, Ginny's boyfriend, is a very good friend of mine and he is nothing like I thought a Slytherin would be! Neither is Draco and another Slytherin (I don't think he would like people to know that we are friends.) Also, Harry, Ron, and I have started a club, but I cannot tell you guys more about it and I'm sorry about that.

Now that I know you guys know about Quidditch, I want to tell you about our first game. It was against Slytherin on Saturday and we creamed them! The score was two hundred and eight to one hundred and thirty. Within the first hour, one of our chasers, Alicia Spinnet, had gotten hurt and Ginny was allowed to play for her. And I'm sure you guys know that's against the rules! Harry, of course, had made a wonderful catch at the end for the snitch! You guys should've seen it! He really is amazing at being a seeker. At the end of the game, our two beaters – the Weasley twins, George and Fred – had gotten suspended for the next two games because they attacked the Slytherins' beaters. It's a long story that involves the Slytherins' beaters, a Bludger, and Ginny.

And now I can get to the real reason why I'm writing this letter. My biological parents are throwing a party in my honor in two weeks from this Saturday and I was hoping you guys could come. It will mean a lot to both me and I'm sure my biological parents. The party is formal, so I guess fancy dresses and dress robes. I really do hope you can come. I miss you guys. Just remember, they might be my biological parents but you guys are my real parents.

Love, Hermione

Once I was done writing, I roll the piece of parchment up and placed it into my book bag. I wanted to use Hedwig to send my letter, so I needed to find Harry. Mainly to ask him if he was okay with me using Hedwig but also to tell him about the party. Running through the hallways, I make my way out to the Quidditch pitch, where I knew he would be. I knew this because he told me that the Gryffindor team was putting in a little bit of practice before dinner tonight. The team was just finishing up by the time I had made it to the pitch, so I waited on the side of the pitch where I knew Harry, Ron, and Ginny would walk by. After a few minutes I finally see my best friends walk up and I wait until they are close enough to me to say, "I got a letter from my parents."

"Wait, your parents that you have known since your earliest memories or your parents that you just realized that you had?" Harry asked as I started walking alongside him.

Rolling my eyes, I answer him, "The birth parents. Remember how I told you guys that they wanted to throw a party in my honor or something like that?" The three Gryffindors nodded their heads and I continued, "Well, they got the okay and there will be a ball in the Great Hall in a little over two weeks."

"Wait a ball? Like we have to dress up in our dress robes and things like that?" Ron asks and I nod my head yes. "Does this also mean we get to bring a date?"

Ginny snorts and says, "You are seriously going to ask someone to this thing!" While the two youngest Weasleys fight over whether Ron could get a date, Harry and I fall back behind them.

"So, are you okay with the Malfoys throwing you this thing?" He asked and I nodded my head yes. "Okay, well then what are you upset about?"

I looked at the two red-heads walking in front of us and think about what Harry was asking me. What was I upset about? Was I really still upset with my parents for lying to me these past sixteen years? The answer to that was yes. But did I hate them for doing it? No, I could never hate them because they have given me a wonderful life. I would never want Professor Dumbledore to take what he did back because I would have never know Harry the way I do now and I definitely wouldn't be able to help him in the long run. Sure, I probably would have fallen for him if I had always known that I was a Malfoy but it wouldn't be the same. No, it would actually be the same, since he could and would never feel the same way. That's what I'm upset about. I'm upset that I will be going to my own ball dateless. Yes, Ron will be able to have a date since he and Lavender feel the same way but me. There is no one.

Sighing, I knew that I couldn't tell all of that to Harry, so I quickly make something up. "Narcissa wants me to ask my 'adoptive' parents to come, so I guess I'm already upset by what their answers will be. I don't want them to say no"

"Why are you so sure that they will say no?" He questioned me.

Looking over at him, I say, "Harry, why would they want to be around my birth parents? Around the very people they had to run from? The people that they kept me away from?"

"They will do it because they don't want to hurt you any more than they already have. They love you and they knew that no matter what you will always love them. I'm sure they didn't know that at first but that's how they raised you." Harry says with a smile and I smile as well. "Now, I have a feeling you will be needing to use Hedwig."

Rolling my eyes, I call out to the two Weasleys. "Hey guys, Harry and I are going to the Owlry to send my adoptive parents a letter. We will see you two at dinner. Oh, and don't start telling people about the ball yet. I want to talk to my brother about it." They nodded and went one way once we got inside the castle and we went another.

We were silent the whole way to the Owlry but once we were in and waiting for Hedwig to come back in from hunting, he turned towards me. "So, is this the first letter you have sent them since you found out the truth?"

"Yeah, they sent me a letter on my birthday but I never replied because I was still angry with them lying to me. We have always been honest with each other." I told him as we saw a flash of white in the sky.

Harry rolled his eyes before saying, "So, they knew about the danger you are in because of me?" I looked at him and he restated what he had just said. "I meant, did you not tell them about the danger or did you try being 'honest' with them?" Looking at him, I was about to say he was right that I didn't tell them when Hedwig flies inside and onto his shoulder with a dead mouse in her beak. "Hey girl." He strokes the feathers on her breast before saying, "Hermione was wondering if you would take a letter to her parents and wait for them give you one to bring back?"

"Harry, she doesn't have to wait for them to write back. Now that I know that my parents are wizards, we can get an owl for when I'm at home or when I'm here so they never have to wait for a letter by me again." I tell him as Hedwig goes off to eat her dinner. "I think they have already bought one." He nods and we wait for Hedwig to finish her dinner. Once she was done eating, she flew back onto Harry's shoulder and looked at me. "Hedwig, can you please take this letter to my parents?" I asked as I pulled the letter out of my bag and held it up to her. Hedwig hoots and sticks out her leg. Smiling at her, I tie the letter around her leg and Harry and I watch her take flight.

Two days later, we were walking out of Transfiguration and were making our way to Herbology when my brother caught up to me. "Hey, did mom and dad send you a letter as well?" I nodded my head and he continued talking, "Well, have you started telling people?"

"I've only told Harry, Ron, and Ginny; but I guess it is time to start talking about it. So, you get your house and I'll talk to the other three." I told him and he nods that he was okay with the idea.

My brother waves goodbye and then leaves to go to his class while Harry and Ron caught up with me. They didn't ask why my brother and I were talking and I took that as they both trusted my brother enough that neither felt the need to protect me. The rest of the way to class, Harry and Ron talked about Quidditch and what else they believed they needed to do to make this year a win. "I'm telling you Harry, we need to have at least ten or so more practices then what Angelina thinks we need." Ron says and I roll my eyes but I didn't say anything about his statement.

"Ron, Angelina knows what she's doing. Also, she is probably going to make some of our practices twice as long as they normally are." Harry tells Ron with a sigh and he was probably right. "At least that's how I would do it if I was captain. You don't have to have so many extra practices as long as you put more time in somewhere else." Ron had to think for a little bit before he nodded his head that Harry was right.

When we finally made it to class and shuffled over to where the Gryffindors normally sit; I sat on the right side of Harry while Ron sat on the other side. They had moved on from talking about Quidditch to the Hogsmeade trip that was this weekend and I knew that I needed to make something known. "Guys, while we are there, I think we should pick up some clothes for the ball that my birth parents are throwing for me. Also, when they sent me the letter, my mother sent me more than enough money to buy all of our dress clothes. And I won't take no for an answer. The money is partly for my outfit and then the other part is my birthday present."

"Hermione, I can't allow you to do that for me!" Harry cries out and Ron's face was growing red. "I just can't allow you to do that!"

Looking at him and then Ron, I say, "What am I supposed to do with all of this money?"

"Well, you could buy the girl's outfit, but I don't really need a new dress robe. And I was thinking about buying Ron a new one for his birthday. Because I'm sorry dude, you cannot keep wearing that nasty blue thing." Harry says with a laugh and Ron gives a nervous chuckle. "Are you okay with that?"

Ron looks at the two of us before saying with a soft chuckle, "Fred and George brought new dress robes over the summer, and I don't know how but they gave me their normal looking ones."

Sighing, I say, "Well, then I'll buy Ginny's and Luna's and whoever you two bring. So, when are you asking you know who?" I ask Ron while staring at Lavender. "I'm going start telling people today, so I think you should really ask her right after I do so."

He looks at me and then quickly over at Lavender who was laughing at something Dean or Seamus had said. "You don't really think either of them have a chance with her, do you?" I shrug and Ron sat there thinking. "Don't say anything yet about the ball! I have an idea." Normally, I would ask him what this so called idea was but I knew I had to trust him on this because Ron had pulled out a sheet of parchment and had started writing something down.

"So, Harry, do you have any idea who you are planning on asking to this thing?" I asked, fishing to see if he had figured out who he liked yet. But all I got was a shake of his head and him looking over Ron's shoulder.

Throughout the whole class, Ron was barely listening to the teacher because he was still working on the note or letter or whatever it was he was doing for Lavender. And Harry… He wouldn't even look at me, he just wrote down his notes; which made me think that he did know who he was going to ask and I would not like it one bit. For once I wasn't totally paying attention to Professor Sprout's lecture but more on who it could be that Harry was planning on asking to the ball. That must be the desire that book was talking about, I thought to myself. By the end of class, I had two full lengths of notes but for the life of me, I could not remember what the lecture was about. I was definitely going to have to do some reading to make up the lecture I had missed.

"Okay, Hermione, you can announce the ball thing." Ron said as everyone was packing up to go to their next class.

Nodding my head, I clear my throat before saying loudly, "Everyone! I would like to invite you all to a ball that my birth parents are throwing in my honor in a little under two weeks. It is a ball, so please wear your best dress robes and dresses. Also, you, of course, can bring a date. So, please, tell your friends about it!" I smile before pulling my bag onto my shoulder and walking over to where Lavender and Parvati were standing and asked, "So, who do you want to ask you to the ball?" Of course I knew Lavender's answers but I was frankly surprised by Parvati's answer. "Really? You want to go with Justin? I always thought Dean or Seamus was more your type."

"Well, I used to think of being with one of them but then at the first DA meeting, Justin and I were paired together and I don't know… I just started feelings all of these weird things for him…" She tells me and I smile at her story before I see Ron walk up towards us.

Once Ron is in front of us, he clears his throat and says, "Lavender, I have been trying to ask you this in multiple ways but I could never find the right way to do so. So, I'm just going to just say it." He takes a deep breath and his face gets red as he notices everyone is staring at him. "I'm R.W. and I'm finally ready to let you know that I have secretly fancied you; and by secretly, I mean I wasn't totally sure until this year. But my feelings for you have always been there, so I'm not just asking you to be my date to Hermione's ball but to also be my girlfriend." As he finishes, he opens a piece of parchment that says "Will you be my girlfriend?" We all hear her squeal loudly before giving him a kiss as her answer.

After that, everyone was clapping and Professor Sprout was ushering us out of her classroom and to our next class, which was Care for Magical Creatures for the Gryffindors. Along the way to our class, Ron had chosen to walk with Lavender and Parvati while Harry and I walked in an awkward silence. But it didn't stay that way for too long because Seamus walked right up between Harry and I and asked, "Hermione, do you want to be my date to this ball that your parents are throwing?"

Looking at him and then for a second at Harry, I say with a sad smile, "Seamus, I know I would have a blast with you, but I only see you as a friend. I'm sorry."

"No worries! It was just a suggestion and if we both still don't have dates by the night of the ball, we can go as friends!" He tells me with a huge smile and a laugh.

Smiling back at him, I say with a chuckle, "I don't see you going to this ball without a date, so you don't need to worry about that." We both laugh and he shakes his head as he runs over to Dean.

I was quite surprised to hear Harry's voice, but he does end up saying something. "Why did you say no to Seamus?"

"Because what I told him was the truth. I don't like him more than a friend and I won't lead anyone on to believe I do have romantic feelings for them." I tell him and he nods his head. "Don't forget we have rounds to do tonight."

"I haven't forgotten, Hermione." He smiles and I give him a laugh and a smile as we make our way into our "classroom."

The rest of the week went on smoothly. Once the whole school knew, Professor McGonagall took a few minutes at dinner last night to explain how the ball would go. Anyone was allowed to go but by ten o'clock P.M. the students who were third year and down would need to be back in their common or dorm rooms. The only way they were allowed to stay was if they had an older student as their date. Then the ball would last another three hours before we would all have to be in our dorm rooms for bed. She also told us with everything that happened last year with the Twi-wizard tournament, that we will have certified Aurors protecting all of the students that will be attending the ball.

But today was Saturday, which meant that we were allowed to go to Hogsmeade. I was extremely excited, as was all the other students who were third year and up. It was still pretty early in the morning, so I was still taking my time to get ready for the day. I had decided to go extra casual and comfy today because I knew we – well us girls – were going to be in and out of dresses for a few hours. So, I had my blonde straighten and flowing down my back, skinny jeans, a short-sleeved, black shirt that read 'My heart beats for you', a pair of gold flats and my locket Narcissa gave me. I was pulling my brush through my hair one more time when Ginny walked into my dorm room.

She was dress casual as well in skinny jeans, a long-sleeved, gray shirt with a bird on it, gray TOMs and a necklace with a bird on it. "So how did rounds go the other night? Did Harry ask you to be his date?" I shake my head and she sighs. "He will, I can just feel it!" She says as I put my brush down and we both walk out of my dormitory after saying goodbye to Crookshanks.

Ginny was the only person, other than Lavender and Luna to know that I really wanted Harry to ask me out to this ball and maybe also ask me to be his girlfriend. I never thought that I would be the type of girl to have three girl best friends but after the change I realized that sometimes it was okay to act like a girl and to think about stupid things like boys. "Ginny, we have to think that maybe Harry really does just like me as a friend," I whisper to her as we walk through the common room and out the door. She sighs and shakes her head, but doesn't say a thing to me; not one word to say that I was wrong.

We make our way to the Great Hall and as we are about to walk through the doors, we hear Harry and Ron talking quietly. Stopping, we stay still and try to listen in to what they were saying. "Harry, you can't wait forever to ask her!"

"I don't know what you are talking about, Ron." Harry says quietly.

Ron groans in frustration, before saying, "We all know you like her, but that is not going to stop the other guys from asking her out! Hell, someone already did and I hear there will be more!"

"Ron, just stop! Why would I care who she goes with to this bloody ball!" Harry tells him with anger seeking out in his voice.

Before Ron can say anything else, I push Ginny to start walking and we walk into the Great Hall and over to where Luna, Lavender and Nott were sitting. Luna is wearing skinny jeans, a pink long-sleeved shirt, pink boots with fake fur and a gold dangling necklace. Lavender has decided to go with a red theme, since that is her favorite color. A red off-the-shoulder long-sleeved shirt, black skinny jeans, with knee high red boots, and a red necklace. "Hey Ginny, hey Hermione! Are you two ready for the mountains of dresses we will end up trying on?" I give a half-hearted chuckle as I start putting things on my plate.

So, Harry is planning on asking someone to go with him and it has to be Cho because I know there has been at least three or four guys to already ask her. Yes, it has to be Cho, I say to myself as I look over to where she would be and I see that yet another boy is asking her. Just then Harry and Ron walk in and come over to where we are sitting. Ron, of course, takes his new place over by Lavender and Harry comes to sit by me. On my other side is Neville and he keeps staring over at the Hufflepuff table.

"Neville, if there is someone you want to ask to the ball, I think you should do so as soon as possible. Same goes to you Parvati." I tell the two Gryffindors who kept their eyes on the Hufflepuff table. Neville nods his head and stands up and swiftly makes his way over to Hannah Abbott.

Just then, Padma runs over to her sister and Lavender with a huge smile on her face. "Terry just asked me to the ball!" Parvati stares at her sister before looking over at Justin who was talking to Erine and Susan. No one was exactly sure if Erine and Susan were together, but I could see it in Parvati's eyes that she could and would not wait for Justin to ask her to be his date.

"I'm happy for you sis and I would love to talk about how he asked in a few minutes, but I need to do something right this moment. How about we meet up to buy our dresses?" She asks her sister, who nods and watches as Parvati stands up and makes her way over to the Hufflepuff table. Not even five minutes later, she is back with a huge smile on her face. "Justin didn't even know that I wanted to go with him! He wanted to ask but he just didn't know how!" I give her a smile before I sit in silence to eat my breakfast.

Forty-five minutes later, we were all walking down to the town of Hogsmeade. "Okay, do we want to go to the dress shop or to the Three Broomsticks first?" I ask as we are standing at the entrance of town.

"I was thinking since none of us guys need to buy a suit or anything, we would go to Zonks and Honeydukes." Ron says as he, Harry, Neville, Draco, Seamus, Dean, Blaise and Nott all stare in the direction of the famous sweetshop. "You girls definitely need more time for the shopping and us guys would be in the way."

Sighing, I look over at the girls and I have to agree with what Ron says. "Okay, I will just have to spell your ties and vests to match our dresses' colors. Now, Harry have you asked anyone yet?" He shakes his head no and I just nod my head. "Okay, well, I guess we will see you guys in about two or so hours at the Three Broomsticks." They nod their heads and we split up. Going into one of the only fancy dress shops, Ginny, Luna, and Lavender pull me into the sea of colors and dresses.

I was thrust into a dressing room with at least ten dresses ranging from pinks to blues and from short dresses to long dresses. Of course that didn't stop my girlfriends from giving me two more sets of ten dresses. They said all of the things girlfriends were supposed to say, like "You look amazing!" Or "That dress is to die for!" But I was never feelings what they were saying until I put the short maroon dress on.

"Guys, this is the dress!" I tell them as I walk out and the three of them all nod their heads. "Now, it's your turn!" Ginny, Luna, and Lavender found their dresses quickly; Ginny had found a white number, Luna a blue number, and Lavender a red dress and they were all short dresses like mine. Once we all had our dresses, shoes and jewelry, we carried our items to the check-out station and I quickly paid for them and asked, "Before we head over to the Three Broomsticks, how about a stop at Honeydukes?"

As we are walking out of the shop, Lavender says, "If I go now, I'm going to end up eating it all at the Three Broomsticks and I bet that the guys already bought us our favorites." The rest of us laughed and we all made our way over to the Three Broomsticks. Once we walked in, I noticed that the boys weren't sitting together like I thought they would have been. Harry, Ron, Draco, Nott, and Blaise were sitting at a large table and Neville was sitting with Hannah, Susan, and Erine. Then the Patil twins were sitting with their dates for the ball and lastly, Seamus and Dean were sitting with Alice and Romilda. The girls went over to where the guys were sitting but before I was able to do the same Dean walked up to me. "Hey Hermione, I know you've already been asked and you told Seamus no, but would you like to go to the ball with me?"

Looking at Dean's handsome face, I knew that I would have fun but I also knew that all the fun I would be having, I would be wishing it would be with Harry. "Dean, I'm sorry, but I'm just waiting for someone to ask me."

His eyes move over to Harry and he sighs. "You want to go with Harry, don't you?" I look over at my best friend and nod. "Don't worry, I won't tell him or anyone else."

"Thanks." We smile and went to our own tables. Once I sat down next to Harry, I had finally noticed that my whole table was staring at me. "What?"

My brother was the first person to ask, "What did Dean Thomas want with you?"

Rolling my eyes, I decide to tell them. "Nothing really, he was just asking me to the ball and I told him that I had to decline."

"Bloody hell! Both Seamus and Dean asked you out?" Ron asked in total shock.

Glaring at him, I questioned, "And why is that so shocking? Huh!"

"Hermione, it's not because I don't think you are pretty, definitely not that, cause you are but you just aren't my type… But I know for certain that you aren't their type either. The blokes are two of my good friends but they go for the more ditzy kinds of girls. Sure, you have the looks down, but definitely not the personality."

I smile at him and nodded my head; but I had to wonder why I'm not Harry's type. He likes both pretty and smart girls… Maybe I'm just not the right type of pretty. Maybe he isn't into blondes. As I'm lost in my thoughts, I didn't even notice Rita Skeeter had come in until it was too late. "Hermione Malfoy! I have just been wanting an interview with you!"

Turning to face the she-devil, I ask, "And why would that be?"

"Well, because of the truth about your bloodline being known!" Rita tells me and my group of friends. "Oh and your brother is here!" She smiles and walks to the other side of the table to where she could get both Draco and me in a picture. "Draco, how do you feel about having a twin sister?"

We looked at each other and he says, "Well, at first I was pissed, no actually I was-"

"Livid, we both were." I finish for him and he nods his head.

"Right, but then I thought about who she was this whole time and I felt bloody awful for calling my own sisters names. So, now we act like we have never been a part and I like having a twin sister. And I especially like being older than her."

Rita nods her head and turns back to me. "And how do you feel about finding out you are a Malfoy? And what do you think about this ball your parents are throwing for you?"

"Well, as I said earlier, I was angry with anyone and everyone but then I thought about the bigger picture and I stopped being so angry. I have two sets of parents, it's definitely more than what other people have…" I look over at Harry and gave him a sad smile. "But both my birth parents and my adoptive parents are my family, so I'm okay with it now. And for the party… I'm not used to having this type of spotlight on me, but I'm planning on having fun with my friends."

Rita Skeeter was going to ask us some more questions but that was when Madam Rosmerta walked up to our table with butterbeers. "I'm sorry Miss Skeeter, but I think your interview is done. These kids need to drink their butterbeers and be on their way back to Hogwarts."

"Say no more! I have just enough to write the article!" She says with a smile and leaves just like that.

My whole table thanks Madam Rosmerta and drink the butterbeers she brought us. After we were done, we started walking back to the castle. Lavender was right on how the guys brought our favorite candy from Honeydukes, so we were able to get to the castle before dinner. Once I had finished my dinner, I was waiting on the guys to stop eating as well when I noticed Hedwig fly in. She had stopped right on Harry's left shoulder and held out her leg for me. After I had untied the letter, I started to read.

Dear Hermione,

Sweet pea, we don't care that you have not written back. We understand that we had hurt you deeply but all that we want you to know is that we love you so much. We are glad that you are not mad at us too much anymore, and we are definitely glad to hear that your school work is going well. Thank goodness that Draco turned to be completely different than what you thought. Oh give our love to Harry and Ron. We are so thankful that they have been there for you. Tell Harry that we wished we were there to watch him catch the snitch and that we hope you three are not getting into too much trouble; we know you three normally end up in some type of trouble. Now on to the third part of the letter. Of course we would come, my darling! We have already talked to the head of your house, so don't you worry about a single thing. Relax and have fun love. We love you and miss you so much!

Love, Mum and Dad
