Hello! A reader on requested that I show Six and Rex's relationship from the very beginning. So this is my rendition of things. Yes, it is posted under romance/family still because I will be ending it when Rex turns eighteen, the age he is in "A Little Spirit" and in "Baby Spirit". I do not own Generator Rex MOA does. If I DID own Generator Rex, it would go like this:

There was a hum of restless energy in the air as people were scrambling about like chickens with their heads cut off. Spirit sat quietly in the corner and watched as everyone panicked. As a young lady of twelve-years-old, she was mortified to learn that there were certain things that healing just didn't help with. And as the fathers of a twelve-year-old "growing up way too fast", Six and Rex were relieved that Spirit had read certain books that negated her need for "the talk".

Her monthly "friend" wasn't the reason for the present upset. She had had that for the first time last week and the panic and sulking on her and her fathers' behalf had finally passed. Today was a happy day to panic. Her daddies were finally getting married! Spirit was their flower girl. She as a little old for a flower girl but she was the only little girl they knew.

This suited Spirit just fine. She loved dressing up! What Spirit really loved was helping out with the wedding though. Her daddies were so different sometimes that they hardly agreed on anything but how much in love they were with each other. Papa wanted a red themed wedding. Daddy wanted green. Papa wanted roses. Daddy wanted lotuses. Papa wanted a wild bachelor party. Daddy wanted to train and meditate.

Both of them would up with separate wild bachelor parties that were spent with their closest friends. Rex wound up in Mexico with Uncle César, Johnson, and his childhood friend, Fedrico. Six was dragged to New York by Callan, Conrí, and Holiday. There was something that Aunt Sarah did that excited her Uncle Conrí and shocked her daddy and Uncle Callan.

Spirit wasn't sure if she wanted to know what that was…

Aunt Sarah and Uncle César helped her daddies plan the wedding. About the only thing they could get them to agree on was food and the wine list. Spirit picked the flowers based on their meaning. In the end they picked a neutral color and to have the wedding done by a magistrate. Daddy was a Buddhist and Papa wasn't particularly religious.

The wedding was taking place amidst the red woods in Northern California on Christmas Eve. The magistrate was an older man who complained about aching bones and wasn't the least bit pleased about the cold and snow. But his wife was invited to attend and she loved weddings so if she were happy so was he.

Everyone had to wear boots and extra layers under their clothes. The women were given white faux fur stoles and arm muffs instead of bouquets. Spirit even had one despite the fact that it was impossible for her to get sick. She sat at the foot of her fathers' bed and waited patiently for her daddy to finish with her hair. Six's hands were shaking slightly as he couldn't help but put a negative spin on what was essentially supposed to be the happiest day of his life.

'What if he regrets this…'

'What if he changes his mind…'

'What if he doesn't want to be tied down to a violent and bitter old man…'

Spirit punched him in the thigh as he pulled a little too hard. Healer or not, she was not impervious to pain.

Six let out a soft chuckle, "Sorry, baby…"

She turned once he finished pinning her hair back with silver snowflake combs.

"Where's your hairpin?"

"Papa asked to borrow it," she replied simply.

The agent sighed in relief and took this as a sign that Rex wanted this marriage just as much as he did. After all, it was the Latino who proposed with a variation of his boogie pack that wrote in big green letters, "Six, will you marry me". Six still blushed when he remembered his answer in an unintelligible combination of French, Spanish, and Japanese. English seemed to have been lost to him at the time. Poor Rex had no idea what he was saying and what was going on until he landed and Six pulled him into a passionate kiss.

The older man had never dared to imagine that this day would come. He was terrible in relationships and clueless when it came to attraction, yet here he was, on his wedding day!

Spirit saw the small smile on her daddy's face and rolled her eyes. He had been trying to tie his bow tie for the past five minutes. Six knew how to tie a bow tie. He wore them before as a mercenary oddly enough. Spirit stood behind her father and tied his bow tie for him after swatting his hands away.

'If daddy is this nervous, how bad off is papa?' She wondered.

Six and Rex agreed to follow wedding traditions. The hardest one was not seeing each other until the wedding. Six borrowed a super snazzy pen to place in his blazer pocket from César. The suits were new. His shades and Rex's goggles were old. He had no idea what Rex's "something blue" was, but he wore a pair of midnight blue lacy boy shorts. Six vaguely wondered if this made him the bride…

"I'm going to go check on papa! I think you need to meditate or something to calm down. You're really fidgety," Spirit signed as she stood and smoothed out her dress.

A smirk crept across the agent's face, "Good idea, baby. Go make sure papa's okay."

Spirit grinned and skipped out the door before slipping out with surprising stealth. Six shook his head. She was getting better but the click, click; clack of her boots ruined the whole "ninja" effect. Six closed his eyes and resisted the urge to assume lotus position in order to meditate. It felt unnatural but it needed to be done in order to calm his fraying nerves and not rumple up his slacks.

Soon they would be leaving the Keep on horse drawn carriages with heated seats and thick blankets. They would take them the rest of the way to Big Sur where their wedding was to take place. The smile crept across Six's face as he thought of his beautiful fiancé greeting him with a smile.

Spirit had been right… Rex was a fidgety nervous wreck. His hair was smoothed back elegantly as opposed to its usual messy spikes but his bow tie was flung onto the bed and he was glaring at it. The little girl giggled silently at the frustrated and indignant look on his face as she entered the room and patted the bed. Rex sighed and seemed to melt as he sat down.

"How's daddy? Is he as nervous as I am?" The Latino asked.

"Yeah! It's kind of funny seeing him like that. I told him to meditate and promised to check on you," Spirit signed once she finished with his tie.

Rex grinned and showed her that he was taking good care of her pink sakura hairpin as he placed it on his blazer.

"You're a good girl, watching after us like this… How did we get so lucky?"

"You're good people who found me and gave me a home when you could've left me there to rot."

The goofy Latino grinned and wrapped his arms around her, "You're too cute to leave behind!"

Spirit smiled happily and hugged her goofy papa back. She made quick work of his tie. Rex glared at the crimson offender in the mirror. The little girl next to him laughed silently and hugged his arm just as the clock struck one, signifying that it was time for the carriages to arrive.

The Latino fidgeted and wondered if wearing an icy blue lace thong as his "something blue" was such a brilliant idea…

'I guess this make me the bride…'

Rex had to wait for Holiday to come get him. She was his and Six's maid of honor after all, it was her duty to ensure that the grooms didn't see each other. Well, hers and Callan's, who was the best man and the one aiding Six more or less. The knock on his door signified that Six had left. It was now his turn.

Since there was no real designation of "bride" or "groom" they were going to meet at the end of the aisle and walk to the altar together with their respective parties behind them. Spirit, of course, would be leading the way with her basket full of rose petals, jasmine flowers, and hawthorn leaves. Magic Fluffball would be by her side as the ring bearer with a pillow that had their rings tied to it in his mouth. Spirit was beginning to suspect that her daddy had too much time on his hands…

Regardless, she was proud to be a part of this wedding and even more proud of the flowers she chose! Red roses meant passion, some that her papa had a lot of. Jasmine was sweet love, something they shared between them. Hawthorn meant hope, something her daddy had lost until he met papa.

The stories she was told of her daddy's life before he had joined Providence and found papa were filled with so much violence and pain. Rex's presence restored his hope while his presence gave papa strength. Then they came together and found love. Spirit sighed wistfully and hoped that she would one day have a love like theirs…

Spirit held onto Rex's hand as they left his room and made their way down the hall. It made Rex feel considerably better about his little girl growing up. He and Six were quite frankly horrified of the idea of Spirit one day not being as affectionate with them as she grew older. She was only twelve so hopefully that wouldn't be happening anytime soon.

Or ever…

Rex wasn't too worried, but Six was a mother hen with it came to things like this. The Latino decided to not fret about the future but to live in the moment, especially today. So he gave his daughter's hand a squeeze and she smiled up at him in return. They stepped into the carriage and took off for their destination.

The scenery that passed them by was sublime. There was snow and ice dusting the trees, covering them in the shimmering pinks, purples, and gold of the newly setting sun. By the time night fell he would be married to the love of his life and they would be at a local tree house inn that was built around a large redwood.

The wedding party and the guests would eventually go home while they would remain for a few nights before taking a jump jet to One's Island. They were going to have a "ceremony" of sorts there as well. Just a symbolic repeating of their vows so that One would get to be a part of things as well.

Both men swore that the older man's consciousness was still present within the land. It had been Rex's idea and the grin that spread across Six's face as a result was breathtaking. The Latino looked out the window and saw their fairy lights, midnight blue lanterns, and intricate snowflake lanterns. They hung under an ice blue canopy that served to shield them from the snow.

Rex fell in love with it the instant he laid eyes on it and decided that lanterns would be decorative feature in their bedroom one day… France and retirement couldn't get there soon enough for the Latino. A vineyard was going to be hard work but the greatest reward he would get out of it is basking in his husband's warmth in those lazy nights followed by getting up and watching the sunrise with him in the fields.

Not to mention it would be a wonderfully beautiful and peaceful place to pass onto their children…

Rex stepped out of his carriage and almost forgot how to breathe. Six stood before him with a small, nervous smile on his face. He looked so elegant and breathtaking in his posh black tuxedo. The tuxes were the only thing they seemed to agree on when it came to planning the wedding… Rex wore a black tux with a crimson vest and matching bowtie. Six wore a similarly styled tux with emerald.

His eyes were revealed for the world to see. His emerald shades were tucked safely away in his breast pocket. Rex had done the same with the goggles that his soon-to-be husband had given him long ago.

Six fretted over his eyes revealing too much. He felt just as naked without his shades as he did without his katanas. Rex smirked and threaded his fingers through Six's and patiently waited for the music to start. They had chosen a soft classical piece as opposed to the bridal march as there were two grooms and no bride. It was actually a recording of their daughter playing a piece that she had written with some help from her wonderful violin teacher, Kenwyn.

Regardless of their plans, Conrí who offered to do the whole playlist with them had jokingly started off with the bridal march. He laughed as the poor men blushed and were at a loss as to what to do next. Holiday smacked him in the arm and the music switched to the piece that Spirit and Kenwyn wrote.

Spirit gave her uncle a small glare and proceeded down the aisle with her cat trotting along beside her. The twelve-year-old flower girl was odd enough but a cat as the ring bearer?! Everyone got a good chuckle out of that.

The magistrate found it amusing and shook his head, "Well, folks, there's a first time for everything…"

Jack Lucas had been marrying people for fifty years now and this was certainly a first for him and he even married two dogs once! The grooms made their way down the aisle, holding on to each other for dear life out of nerves. Six looked a little paler than usual. The vows they wrote were meaningful though they left him feeling more than a little exposed to the world. Rex's hand entwined with his was a blessing and a comfort to the stoic man.

"Dearly beloved we are gathered here today to celebrate the love between Alexander Michael Smith and Rex Aldo Salazar. The couple have written their own vows," Jack the Magistrate began.

Rex fidgeted nervously, "I'd say age before beauty but…"

Six blushed and frowned, not liking how exposed he felt without his shades. The Latino chuckled, "I guess I'll go first…"

He nervously cleared his throat, "Alex… You've given me so much to live for… You took a cocky, filthy, starving kid and turned him into a hero. You gave him courage and became his rock. I cannot even begin to thank you for seeing in me what others failed to. You fill me with so much strength that I feel as though I can do anything. You gave me hope for a better future and our beautiful little angel… If this is what I have to look forward to for the rest of my life, I pledge my love and my loyalty to you. Forever…"

And with that Rex took one of the rings from the cat pillow and slipped it on Six's finger. He counted his lucky stars that they had the same ring size because there was no telling whose was whose!

Six felt both deeply touched and incredibly uncomfortable as it was his turn now. He had spent years hiding behind his shades and to be without them on such an important night was terrifying! But the older man was a soldier (of sorts) so he took a deep breath and began…

"Rex… You've given me so much to live for. Before you, I was a killer for hire with a heart made of tar and a soul made of ash… Finding you in the rubble and watching your eyes light up with fascination when you cured your first EVO filled me with hope and left me speechless. Your spirit and your courage gave me life and the strength the move on knowing that once this all ends I could live with myself. Your kindness to the poor souls enslaved by their nanites inspired me to save lives rather than take them. I pledge my love and my loyalty to you. Forever…"

Six took the remaining ring and slid it onto the Latino's finger. The ring was made with steel and engraved with the Kanji for "Loyalty" on the outside while the inside held the date they met rather than the date they married. It was identical to the one Rex had put on his finger.

He cast a wary glance to their guests and saw that their daughter was hugging her cat and crying happy tears into his fur. Kenwyn and Annie were whispering, likely planning their own wedding. Johnson was holding Claire's hand. He was her date as Noah was off chasing some hot Asian girl. The pair looked pretty cozy actually… César couldn't take his eyes off of his cowboy who was looking pretty tasty in a suit. The same could be said with Holiday and Corni. Six wondered if the poor Irish hacker knew what he was getting himself into.

"You may now kiss the groom!" Jack shouted jovially.

Six nearly jumped at that loud declaration. He had wanted to keep the kiss simple and tasteful. That plan was totally blown out of the water when Rex practically mauled him, grabbing him by the collar and pulling him into a passionate kiss. Conrí and César were laughing their asses off at the surprised look on the agent's naked face.

Rex eventually broke the kiss and gave Six a smug look as the poor man blushed and frowned in response. The Latino laughed and put Six's shades on for him. The agent felt better but still disliked being the center of attention.

"Ladies and gentleman, it is my great pleasure to present to you, Mr. and Mr. Salazar," Jack cut in jubilantly.

Guests threw streamers and confetti. Spirit wasn't about to let anyone throw rice! It was wasteful and it wasn't colorful and happy enough! Magic Fluffball slipped out of Spirit's embrace and chased after her papa who had a bit of streamer stuck to the heel of his shoe. The little girl giggled silently and chased after her cat, scooping the mischief maker up into her arms.

Everyone followed the couple into a rather spacious tree house build around a hulking redwood. There were two stories. The upper story had a bedroom and a bath. The lower story had a small kitchen and a larger entertainment room. It was in that room that the reception was to take place. The wedding party was relatively small after all and all of the food was taken care of by friends and family. The fabulous duo of Granny Rosemary and Abuela came up with a dark chocolate and cinnamon-chipotle spiced croquembouche with a honey glaze drizzled over top like golden floss.

It was placed next to a rather simple yet symbolic display of family. It included the stand for Six's katana and Rex's tanto. It represented their loyalty and love for each other. There were pictures of family, namely of those who were no longer with them as well as a picture of the two grooms with their daughter. Six sketched a picture of One, who was his beloved master and second father.

The Japanese man would've been a real charmer had he not been quite so cold and ruthless. He was a strikingly handsome man with tan skin, graying black hair, a goatee, and cold eyes as black as night. One always wore a traditional gi or a black yukata.

Honestly, from the way Six told his and One's story, it sounded as though he were the catalyst for One cleaning up his act just as Rex had done for him. One was a strict teacher, a stoic "father", and an unrelenting assassin. Over the years he shifted from someone who fought to kill to someone who strove to protect. Still, it was frightening to think that Six had wanted to be like him.

To surpass him…

What the agent had failed to notice was that One became a better person because of him. Six had stolen his wallet not only to feed himself but to buy medicine for a sick little girl and food for her and her older brother. Stealing from a dangerous man was either heroic or just plain stupid and given the spark of intelligence in Six's eyes, Rex was willing to bet that One found him heroic.

One chose to concentrate more on training and providing for his students than he did lining his pockets with blood money in the years leading up to his changing into an EVO. He went from someone to fear to someone to admire. One strove to be better to influence Six, his best and favorite student, just as Six strove to be better in general for Rex.

The Latino smiled at the display with a fond sadness before searching for his husband. Six had reluctantly been dragged out onto the dance floor by their daughter. Spirit was having the time of her life while her poor father was blushing at the attention. Rex loved fun so he jumped right in and began dancing with them rather than rescue his poor introverted husband.

Six had no problem dancing at a club with the lights down low and the other dancers focusing on the beat rather than on him. But this was very…

Public…

It didn't even matter that these people were his friends and family and would love him even if he'd mess up something as simple as the chicken dance. In fact, that probably made it worse. These were the people who knew him best or at least thought they did. Six wasn't much of a dancer but Rex certainly was.

'Well, Rex was more of a strip tease artist than anything…' The agent admitted with a smirk.

A new song began to play. It was slow and bluesy. Rex led his poor nervous love in a slow waltz. He leaned in close, resting his chin on Six's shoulder and whispered instructions. This was the one thing that they hadn't counted on. Honestly Rex was kind of hoping to skip the reception altogether when he saw Six in that tux. All he wanted to do was stare in awe at how beautiful the older man looked.

'Before I rip his clothes off that is…'

Chills raced down Six's spine as Rex caressed the back of his neck with his thumb. The agent gave his husband a soft look. Not that anyone else would be able to tell, Rex was just that good when it came to reading him. His heart melted at the honest to goodness smile that appeared on Six's face. The grooms were lost in their own little world as they danced.

They shared a soft, tender kiss under the mistletoe. Spirit was dancing with her goofy Uncle César who was doing less of a dance and more of a "let's make my niece laugh until she can't breathe". Callan scooped up the petite pre-teen and swung her around. If she could squeal, the hall would've been filled with the laughter and joy of a child.

As it was, Spirit was mute so the hall was filled with the laughter and joy of her family, which to the little girl, was far more important. She looked to her fathers as they danced. They were the ones who showed her kindness and taught her what true love was. She adored them and wished them all the happiness in the world.

So here she was, perched atop her uncle's shoulders as he picked up his wine glass and a spoon.

Chime!

Chime!

Chime!

Callan fidgeted as all eyes were on him, "Well, as the best man it is up to me to come up with a horribly embarrassing speech about the grooms. But I'm afraid that I don't have one… I'm a simple man so I'll simply say this; you will never meet two people more opposite yet more in love with each other than Alexander and Rex Salazar. These two pulled each other out of the darkness, fought their demons side-by-side, and rescued the angel on my shoulders in the process. I can't think of two people who deserve happiness more… To Alex and Rex, may the good outweigh the bad and their love last forever!"

"Here, here!" Conrí agreed verbally as he was the first to raise his glass.

Everyone followed suit, toasting the couple. Spirit did so with her apple juice. Magic Fluffball ignored the world as he dug into his salmon dinner. Next came presents to open. Conrí's was skipped because the hacker tended to give rather inappropriate things to people with the exception of his little niece.

Spirit had two for her fathers. The first one was more or less playing them down the aisle on her violin. The second was an Impressionist style painting of their family at their vineyard in Southern France. Six could be seen in the background, cooking in the kitchen while Rex served people and Spirit took orders. Callan, César, Auntie Sarah, and Annie were working in the field. While Kenwyn, Claire, and Conrí were patrons at the café.

Spirit found that when it came to drawings, she made them as complex and intricate as possible. She drew attention to fluffiness of a bird's wings or the rawness of a tribal-style butterfly. As far as painting went though, Spirit loved the complexity yet simplicity of Impressionism. Impressionism, to Spirit, was the freedom and flow of emotions and color without the almost oppressive need for realism and detail.

She just wished that she could draw better… Spirit still practiced diligently when it came to ballet, violin, and art. These were not gifts that were bestowed upon her genetically so she really had to work hard and put in a lot of effort to improve. Unfortunately, it seemed that the areas where she had improved the most were martial arts and acrobatics. It made her perfect for becoming an agent but she'd be a lousy art teacher.

'Maybe one day I'll become a writer and write my family's story…' She pondered.

She did a lot of reading…

How hard could it be to transition to writing?

The girl remained lost in her thoughts throughout the gift giving portion of the night. It was pretty boring so she slipped out midway through and put on her winter coat before climbing to the roof of the building. Her fathers were about give the signal to light up the fireworks that would end the evening. The fireworks were César and Callan's contribution. They did their special ones.

These fireworks were amazing! They created intricate snowflakes that lit up the sky! They shimmered splendidly as the sparks rained down reminiscent of real snow reflecting off of the full moon's silvery light. Spirit saw them testing the fireworks out months ago. Of course she quickly had to leave once she realized where their fireworks were going…

Needless to say, César and Callan went off with a bang that night…

The little girl made a face and decided that she needed to spend less time around Uncle Conrí…

Spirit sighed as everyone around her kissed under the magical illumination of the fireworks. She wondered what her special someone would be like. It would only make sense to fall in love with someone like her papa since she was so much like her father. But was there really such a simple formula when it came to love?

It was statistically true when it came to love; women went for men who were similar to their fathers. Likewise, men subconsciously did the same when it came to selecting wives so like their mothers… It seemed too simple to Spirit. She supposed that the part that made it worse she was like her father, the most intimidating person in a high tech military base that was known for accepting only the best of the best. He was one of the most dangerous men in the world!

Finding a girl who could love another girl that was "scary" would be impossible! Spirit sighed… At least she knew that she wanted to date girls. There were some adults out there couldn't even figure what gender they liked better. Besides, boys were whiny, destructive, and stupid. Who could possibly like them?

Spirit sighed when the show ended and climbed down from the roof. She was immediately captured by her fathers and received a kiss on each cheek.

Click!

The millionth picture of the night was taken and the little girl just knew that it would be her favorite!

They placed silver snowflake necklace with blue and white crystals around her slender neck. Spirit's eyes lit up as she stared down at her new pendent.

Six chuckled at his daughter's reaction to her gift.

"Aww… Mija! You're so cute," Rex exclaimed as he kissed her on the temple.

"Allez, petite fille. Il est temps pour nous de quitter si vos papas peuvent avoir leur plaisir," Rosemary said with a smile.

"Sí , mija. Vamonos. Sus abuelas tendrá buen cuidado de que mientras los jóvenes se diviertan," Abuela said, brushing her hand against her cheek.

Spirit smiled and nodded. She ran to her fathers and gave them each a hug and a kiss.

"I love you two so much. I hope you are happy forever and ever!" She signed.

"I love you too, baby," Six said with that sexy smirk of his.

The kind the made Rex weak in the knees…

Rex tucked a stray curl behind his daughter's ear, "I love you too… Be a good girl, mija."

Spirit nodded and followed the two elderly women to the pulley elevator. She listened quietly as the guests chatted amongst themselves. They heartily adored the party favors. Each guest was leaving with a bottle of red wine, delectable dark chocolate covered almonds, and a silver snowflake necklace for the ladies while the men received Zippo lighters with a snowflake engraved on them.

Poor magistrate Jack got to listen to his wife, Jill, chatter on and on about how lovely this wedding was and how their son, Peter, should marry Morgan in the winter instead of the summer. Magic Fluffball was snuggled in the girl's arms in a kitty burrito cocoon.

Six watched as their family departed and felt as though a chapter of his life had ended and a new one had only just begun. He knew that each one would be happier than the next thanks to the man at his side. Rex crept up behind him and wrapped his arms around the older man's waist.

"As much as I love them, I'm glad to see them go for a change," the Latino murmured softly against the shell of his husband's ear.

"A whole week undisturbed in a forest paradise… Whatever shall we do?" Six teased playfully.

"Well, Alejandro," Rex purred, "I believe I have a few ideas…"

Six smirked and turned to his young husband, "Lead the way…"

And so he did and it was glorious…

This was due out in November and would have signified the end of this fanfic. Unfortunately, my ancient laptop blew up and I had to go shopping for a new one AND rewrite part of this chapter. Also… I may have stupidly decided that getting Fallout 3 and Borderlands: The PreSequel was a brilliant idea. So… Yeah. I may have strayed a bit and played video games for too long. Many apologies.
