I stared at Josef and Mick, unsure of whether I could accept the possibility that vampires were real but I had to especially after what I had seen in the office earlier today. "Josef, this is going to take a lot for me to get used to but I also want to take a chance with you" I told him. Mick looked at us and asked "Should I leave you two alone?" "Please Mick and thanks for the support" Josef replied. Mick left and once he was gone, Josef sat on the couch. "Please, come and sit beside me" he pleaded.

"Promise you won't bite me" I said, slowly coming to sit beside him. "I won't bite unless you allow" he told me. I was quiet a moment and he slowly took my hand which surprised me from the cold. I finally asked "Do some vampires actually take someone to spend eternity with?" "Some do but most prefer to spend eternity alone instead of facing the pain of losing anyone they become close to" Josef replied.

"And you've been alone for 400 years" I prompted curiously. "Yes but only because I thought I would be better off alone until 1955 when I went by the name Charles Fitzgerald" he told me. "You fell in love once before" I asked. "Yes but when Sara asked me to turn and I gave in; she somehow slipped into a coma, never woke up. She hasn't aged" he answered, a soft sadness in his voice and a distant expression in those beautifully sad eyes of his. "Is she still in a coma" I asked.

"Yes, a small apartment in New York. I still cover her costs but I think it's time that she finally gets what any good mortal truly deserves" he told me. "Her heavenly reward" I asked. "Yes" he answered gently. "May I ask you something" I finally asked after thinking about it carefully. "Go for it" he answered.

I hesitated a moment, making sure it sounded right before I finally asked "Will you turn me like you tried to do for her?" He did a sharp intake of breath before he answered "Only if it's what you really want Caroline. Let's see what our relationship will even hold. I love you and I don't want to hurt you. If I lost you, I could never forgive myself." As he spoke, he was slowly caressing my hands with his thumbs and it was making my hands tingle. I blushed softly and he asked "Will you come back to work on Monday?"

"No more attempts to bite me at work then" I asked. "Of course and that one time was an accident but I vow never again unless I have your permission" Josef answered. He moved a couple strands of my hair away from my face and I gazed into his normal blue eyes. "I want to kiss you" he whispered softly, leaning forward slightly. "Then kiss me" I answered, leaning forward too. "I only hope I can resist your scent" he told me, leaning even closer.

"Try" I whispered as our foreheads met gently and he stroked my cheek gently with his thumb. Before I could even blink, he captured my lips in a heart stopping kiss. In that moment, it was like everything had melted away and I met his kiss with that same intense feeling. I had never felt intensity like that before but I wanted to feel it again. We let go to breathe and he asked "You seemed to really enjoy that Caroline. Would you like another kiss?"

"Please" I whimper softly, my breath almost caught in my throat as he captured my lips again. After a little while, he let me go again, he held my hands and asked "Does this mean that you're willing to give us a chance?" I nodded softly and told him "Yes, I will take a chance on us. I took a chance coming to Los Angeles, well coming back, and I'm glad I did. Now, I want to take a new chance." "Then let me take you on a proper date tomorrow night" he told me.

"Oh, you're on" I answered with a smile. He got up and I walked him to the door. "Good night Caroline and I will be picking you up at 8:30pm" he said, one hand on the door knob. "I look forward to it" I told him and he left. I watched from the window as he drove away. I finally got ready for bed that night and as I drifted off, I thought of Josef and hoped that I was truly ready to take a chance and possibly surrender my heart to Josef for eternity.
