She was scared to approach Kent. In the dim lit room the light of the television flickering across his skin made the man look more ghost than human though Ororo supposed the large amount of weight he had lost over the past month played a hand in his sudden transformation. She clutched the small bouquet of daisys she had purchased from the downstairs market, the gift now seeming in bad taste. It had been her idea. She had wanted to see him, wanted to see what she herself could not believe, that the darkest part of her story was coming to an end by the love of a 6'6 foot tall miracle.
The woman froze as the man shifted atop his bed. She held her breath watching as his eyes moved beneath his eyelids. She could not prevent the gasped that escaped her lips as he suddenly opened them. The man too seemed shocked by her pretense letting out a similar sound.
"Who are you" he asked.
"I…you…you don't know who I am".
The man stopped, a curios look overtaking his features as his eyes grazed over the woman before him. "Have we met"?
"No". Ororo had said it too quickly she thought for the man to believe her but was surprised when he made no move to challenge her response.
"The doctors tell me I have retrograde amnesia" he spoke. "Whatever it is that happened to me the night I got here my brain isn't letting me know". He lifted himself slightly his eyes drifting towards the ceiling. "It's the damnest thing" he went on. "I can remember my childhood so well but anything past 16 is a blur". Ororo was silent her thoughts wandering back to the night in Zelda's home. Perhaps she thought, the woman's powers went beyond healing the body, perhaps they had healed the mind as well.
Kent leaned back a weak smile curving up the side of his cheeks as he let his eyes fall back upon the woman. "Anyway" he said. "I don't think I could forget meeting someone as beautiful as you".
Ororo looked away a combination of shame and a familiar shyness suddenly taking over.
"Whats going to happen to you?"
Kent shrugged. "I have family coming in from the west coast, they will be here in a week to take me back with them to California".
Ororo nodded. "I heard California is nice"
"I wouldn't know".
Ororo looked down at the flowers in her hand. She hadn't realized her grip on them until she saw the withered stems, her palm left wet and green from their perspiration.
"Who were you here to visit"
Ororo shook her head. "Oh well...they already checked out". It was not a complete lie, whoever Kent had been was no longer who he was now. It was uncertain if this change would be forever but for the moment Ororo allowed herself to look upon him with fresh eyes.
She moved forward and placed the small bouquet beside the man's bed. "Besides, I think you would appreciate them more".
Kent looked at the flowers a slight frown tugging down the side of his lips. "This was very kind of you but…for some reason I'm feeling quite sad at the moment". "I am sure it's this medication, I don't know what they have me on".
He returned his attention to the woman another smile appearing on his lips. "I'm going to sleep now. It was a pleasure to meet you".
Ororo nodded "…you as well".
She moved away slowly turning only when she reached the door. She knew it would be the last time she would open it.
No sooner had turned the corner than she felt herself being pulled up against a massive chest. Victor leaned forward pressing his nose into the sea of white wavy white hair that covered the woman's head.
