So, I found chapter 4 on my google docs lol.
Chapter 4 - Quinn
Sunday.
She hates Sundays.
Her father has been making her go church every Sunday since she was little, she actually used to enjoy it when they lived in Columbus. It was always something they did as a family and she loved that, they would help her with homework and always having family dinners but as she got older her parents were less involved in the things she did and she grew more independent and didn't need them as much, which meant they didn't spend as much time together.
Then stuff went down between them which caused them to move to small town Lima where things really changed, she knows what happened between them since she heard her parents arguing from her room, she was fifteen at the time when she heard her father's booming voice for the first time and knowing that it was directed at her mother made it even more scarier.
They still go to church every Sunday together but it's not the same and she kinda really hates it. It feels like she's being forced to go and instead of enjoying it she just begrudgingly agrees to go along and play happy families, (they are far from it though.) Her father locks himself away in his office all day and her mother drinks, a lot.
To be fair, she was a different person back then, she had dark hair, wore big glasses, was slightly chubby and people called her Lucy. When they moved to Lima for a fresh start she didn't want to be that girl any more, the girl that got teased, picked on and got called horrible names at school.
No one knew who they were in Lima yet, so she made it her mission to to lose all the weight before starting junior year at William McKinley High, she dyed her hair blonde, got contacts and told everyone to call her Quinn.
She was popular at her new school, boys looked at her like in a completely different way to how they looked at Lucy and she actually has some friends. Well, she's not sure if she can call the Cheerios her friends, they all seem to like her and talk to her but she's not sure if it's because she's head Cheerio and they have to listen to her.
She knows she can call Brittany her friend, she was the first one to welcome her to the team and they just seemed to stick together after. It's kinda hard to talk to the ditzy blonde sometimes though, she seems to have her own way of thinking and it took Quinn awhile to understand the quirky girl.
But Brittany was popular which made Quinn popular just by being Cheerios, the uniform made her top of the hierarchy and since she was new to the school, everyone was talking about her so it didn't take her long to become exactly what she wanted.
Quinn's disturbed by loud knocking on her door and her ears are met with her father's gruff voice, "You better be out of bed. We have church at nine."
"Yes," she replies. Turning over to check her alarm clock she shuts her eyes tightly wishing she could just be somewhere else.
…
Her mother questions her the whole way there about getting drunk at that party even though she didn't drink that much and is definitely not hung over. She certainly knows what a hangover looks like, thanks to her mother.
Her father keeps quiet for the whole ride apart from a harsh warning of "Judy," when her berating starts to annoy him and then after that none of them utter a word for the rest of the journey.
Once they arrive she watches as her father puts on a fake facade to greet his friends, they always act like the perfect family at church, it's probably the only time her parents interact with each other.
She sighs before following her parents into church, cringing slightly when she see's her father put his arm around her mother's shoulder awkwardly.
Quinn kinda zones out during the whole service, she never feels right being here anymore especially after everythings she witnessed. So she always ends up counting down the minutes until they can leave and drop the fake charade they use at church.
People are starting to stand when she realises that the service is finished, she tries to follow their lead and walks out of the pew when she feels a large hand grasp her shoulder.
She looks behind her shoulder and meets her father's gaze, she seen that look before. He's making sure she doesn't leave without them, warning her not to show them up and..
She just really hates Sundays.
…
"Wanna come over?"
"Sorry Britt, can't today."
They had just finished Monday's cheerleading practice so she was pretty worn out, especially since Sue has them practising longer for regionals. Plus her mother demanded her to come home straight after practice, something about dinner.. she wasn't really listening.
Quinn checks her phone before throwing it in her duffel bag when she see's there are no messages or missed calls.
Brittany shrugs and starts leave with the other cheerios while Quinn gathers her stuff and follows them out.
...
She takes her time driving home to prepare herself for whatever her parents are planning, it can't be anything good and she's already thought of some excuses but she knows they probably won't work.
When she gets home the first thing she hears is shouting coming from the kitchen, she can smell smoke too which most likely means her mother burnt the food and now her father is yelling at her for it.
Quinn winces and quickly makes her way to her room so she can shower.
The hot water feels nice, taking some of the tension of out her muscles from practice, she finally feels relaxed.
That is until she's interrupted by someone knocking on the door. "Quinn, make sure you put on something nice before you come down."
"Okay," she yells back before shutting off the shower.
The cold air hits her skin as soon as she steps out, quickly grabbing her towel and wrapping it around her body she makes her way to her room and starts to search through her closet for something to wear.
…
Quinn's putting the finishing touches to her hair when she hears a car pull up outside.
Deciding to just wear a headband she moves to her window pulling the curtain back slightly she peeks out and groans when she see's the Carter family walking up the driveway.
Rushing down the stairs she finds her mother laying the table, "Why didn't you tell me the Carter's were coming over?" she hisses.
Without looking up from what she was doing Judy replied, "it's just dinner, Quinn, it was your father's idea."
Just dinner. She wants to tell her mother to grow a backbone and stand up against her own husband, clenching her jaw she scoffs and crosses her arms, before she can say anything the doorbell rings and she can hear her father greeting their guests.
They stare at each other until she feels an arm being put around her shoulders and "Don't show me up," is being hissed into her ear.
Quinn shrugs out of the hold and takes her seat, watching as the Carters make conservation.
She knows why her father is doing this, the tall, dark haired, Christian good boy is exactly why he invited the Carters and their son are over having dinner.
This is why she has to lie about about about boys like Noah Puckerman, her father expects her to date good guys that go to church and have their life planned out for them. That isn't what she wants, she wants to make her own decisions and she certainly doesn't want to be set up with Alex Carter.
Anyway, it's not like she's actually interested in Puck, he's a pig and doesn't really do it for her but he was popular and it seemed like a good idea to date a popular jock.
Alex sits himself in the seat opposite her and gives a cheesy grin to which she just rolls her eyes and prays this is over soon.
…
"Quinn, what are your plans for after senior year?"
"Get as far away from here as I can," she replies without looking up from her food.
She doesn't need to look up to know her parents are probably seething at her careless answer to Mrs. Carter.
"You should have more of an idea than that," Alex adds.
She ignores him.
…
Things get awkward after that and the Carters soon leave.
Quinn's clearing the table when she gets interrupted by her father.
"I told you not to show me up, you should answer when you are spoken too."
She shrugs half-heartedly and her father growls in response.
"Get upstairs, I don't want to see your face for the rest of the night."
She doesn't argue.
…
The following week is a little better, school wise, things at home are still a little tense.
Puck seems to have gotten the idea now, she doesn't need that sleaze around her anymore.
She's waiting for Brittany outside of her class when she see's Santana and that Rachel Berry girl from her Biology class making their way to the choir room. They don't see her but she smiles at their giggling anyway, not sure if she's a little jealous of the friendship they have.
Her thoughts are broken when people start piling out of the classroom.
"Ready?" Brittany asks.
"Yeah, let's go," Quinn gives her smile as they walk in the opposite direction on the choir room.
…
They next time she see's Santana is in the girls bathroom.
Quinn's washing her hands in the sink when Santana comes in covered in blue slushie. She's never really understood the whole slushie thing but apparently it's been happening way before she moved here.
The brunette doesn't notice her at first, probably because the girl is wiping the stuff from her glasses with her shirt.
It's not until Quinn moves to grab some paper towels that Santana see's her.
Turning she hands over the paper towels, raising an eyebrow when the girl just stares at her dumbfounded.
"I'm not going to do it for you, Lopez," she smirks.
"Right, sorry," Santana chuckles nervously before taking the paper towels, their hands brushing briefly and cleaning her glasses properly.
"Who was it this time?" Quinn asks while moving to lean back against the sinks.
"Karofsky, he got Sam too which is a little funny."
An amused smile played across Quinn's lips, "How's that?"
"Coz' I'm pretty sure I caught Karofsky checking him out once," Santana moved into the toilet stall which is when Quinn realised the girl was holding a spare t-shirt.
"That is a little weird," the blonde replied to fill the silence and to stop herself from thinking about the girl changing behind the door in front of her.
"Uh huh," Santana agreed. "I don't think he actually meant to get Sam though, which is why it's funny."
"Hm, Sam's straight anyway right? Well, I guess he is dating man-hands," Quinn says without really thinking and immediately regrets it when she see's the look on Santana's face.
"Can you not call her that, Rachel's my friend."
"What- no, I didn't mean-"
"Whatever," Santana cuts her off and quickly stuffs her ruined t-shirt into her bag before leaving the bathroom without another word.
Quinn is left standing there for a moment feeling like an idiot for saying that in front of Santana, she really needs to stop hanging around the cheerios so much.
…
And of course her next lesson is Biology where she see's Rachel sitting at the back of the class scribbling notes before the lesson has even started.
It makes Quinn feel even worse for calling her names and she doesn't even know why.
Slumping down in her seat she gets out her textbook and searches for a pen, huffing when she doesn't find one she turns around.
"Hey, can I borrow a pen?"
Rachel jumps slightly not expecting anyone to talk to her in this class and looks up at Quinn.
"Um, sure.." she hesitates slightly but finds a working pen and hands it over.
"Thanks Rachel."
It makes Quinn feel slightly better than she called the girl Rachel and not anything mean.
…
Before she knows it it's Sunday again and of course her parents are schmoozing up to the Carters.
The whole thing is uncomfortable and Alex keeps trying to make conservation which is really not going to happen.
She really doesn't know why her parents are bothering with this charade anymore, she's certainly given it up now.
…
It's been more than a week since she spoke to Santana in the bathroom and sure they never really speak with other people around but the girl doesn't even make eye contact with her anymore and for some reason, it really annoys her.
