"Hey Thirteen?"
"Yeah?"
"I've got a question."
"What?"
Remy wasn't really in the mood, but since they were in for a 30 to 40 minute drive to check out a patient's house, she figured a little conversation wouldn't hurt. She was in the driver's seat while Kutner was beside her and Taub sat in the back. After having lost three rounds of rock-papers-scissors, she was forced to be their chauffeur.
Typical of them. Making the woman do everything.
She sped them down the highway, passing a few cars and trucks here and there. To be somewhat honest, Thirteen didn't really mind too much. She actually quite liked driving. It was an unusually therapeutic activity for her, and she loved the feeling of liminality when she's in between places.
As she turned and took an exit, she suddenly realized that Kutner still hadn't asked his question. "I thought you were going to ask me something."
Kutner looked over and observed his colleague, knowing fully well that he often had to be cautious around Thirteen, especially when talking about personal matters. "Well…" He paused for a moment. Because she was driving, Remy didn't see the look he shot back at Taub.
"Do you think Cameron's hot?"
The car jerked forward violently when Thirteen stepped on the brakes. Kutner hit his head on the sun visor while Taub banged his on Kutner's headrest. The three of them thanked god that they were no longer on the highway, that instead, they had already driven to a more remote and quiet neighborhood.
Once they had finally recovered from the shock, Remy felt two pairs of questioning (almost accusing) eyes on her.
"So…"
Thirteen blinked a couple of times as she stared straight ahead at the empty road in front of her.
"What kind of question is that?" she snapped at him, turning to shoot him an incredulous look.
"It's just… a normal question," Kutner defended. "I was just wondering if you thought she was-"
"Yeah I heard you the first time," the brunette cut him off, rolling her eyes.
All of a sudden, they heard a car beeping its horn at them from behind. Thirteen quickly stepped on the gas and continued driving down the road to search for their patient's house.
"So?" Taub eventually piped in.
"I'm not going to answer such a ridiculous question."
"If it's so ridiculous, then why was your first reaction so big that it almost cost all three of our lives?"
Thirteen spun around briefly to shoot a death glare at Taub.
She turned back to face the road. "It wasn't a big reaction… I was just…thrown off a bit," she tried to defend herself. "It was random."
"Mhmm, sure it was," Kutner nodded slowly, mocking her. He received a well-deserved smack in the arm. "Ow."
"Hm," Taub mumbled to himself as he thought. "Your deflection and unwillingness to answer could mean that you have already thought of the answer yourself, but don't want to share it," he proposed. "Or… you haven't thought of it, so you were surprised by your own answer."
"Which is it?" Kutner asked enthusiastically.
"Oh shut up you two and help me find this guy's house." Her eyes scanned the various residences that they were driving past.
"She seems embarrassed," Taub observed.
"If she didn't think Cameron was hot, she would have simply said so," Kutner hypothesized.
"That's a little rude, don't you think?" Remy spoke up.
"Or you would have at least given some comment that would indicate your lack of interest in her," Taub added.
Remy kept quiet for a bit and continued to drive, sulking to herself as she did.
"You do think she's hot."
"I never said anything."
"But you're not denying it."
"So what if I acknowledge that some colleague I know happens to be attractive? You guys call Chase a pretty boy all the time!"
The two men sat and watched her for a moment, smirking in their seats.
"You like her."
"Oh shut up Kutner!"
"Foreman owes us fifty bucks each."
