Hey there!
I know it's been a long while since I updated this story. And even this chapter is only going to be very short, an interlude. I'm not planning on giving up on Kanto's Guardian, but I am going to have to put this on a TEMPORARY Hiatus. And when I say temporary I mean it, but right now my main focus will be The End of an Era, Secret Origins and Back in Life. Once University lets up a little and once I managed to make some headway with those three stories I'll return to this, I promise.
Pokémon does not belong to me.
Read please and I hope when I can continue this properly you'll continue to Review.
"Thank you, Keldeo."
Keldeo couldn't help almost preening under the soft thanks he received from his mentor.
Not even five hours had passed since the Swords of Justice and thier student had split form the group of humans. Half an hour after leaving they had had to stop alread. Despite the medicine and treatments really helping Virizion, she was still very weak and needed to rest to properly in order to regain her strength.
And so, for the last few hours, Cobalion and Terrakion had taken to securing their general surroundings while Keldeo tended to the female Sword of Justice in any way he could. Virizion had looked rather amused when Keldeo proclaimed he'd readily cater to her in any way she needed. And so he'd indeed gone and gotten water, all kinds of berries and, Keldeo suspected this last one had been more of a test but he'd meant what he'd said, a branch full of honey from the nearest hive, although the local Vespiquen hadn't been all to thrilled about.
She'd let it go though, after Keldeo had brought a few rounds of flowers for the hive to use.
"I know the kid offered Virizion, but aren't you overdoing it here?"
Terrakion's rough laughter snapped Keldeo out of his musing and he turned his head to see said Pokémon pushing himself through a few bushes.
"I didn't really think he'd actually do it", the female admitted sheepishly while she used the stick to rub the honey on some of the berries Keldeo had brought earlier.
Here Keldeo decided to put his own in and indignantly exclaimed: "I said I was gonna do everything you need and I meant it!"
This only prompted poorly hidden chuckles from Terrakion. Keldeo huffed and turned his head away.
"Don't feel made fun off Keldeo, please", Virizion asked. "But you learned very much in a very short time. I did not think you had internalized all your lessons this deeply already."
"I guess...I knew that", Keldeo admitted softly. "It's just...just..."
"Just what?", another voice came from just behind him and Cobalion stepped up right at his flank. Keldeo hesitated for a short second.
Figuring this out and admitting it in his head was one think, having to say it out loud now was something completely different and much harder to do. But him saying this and sharing his realisations with the Swords of Justice was exactly what his realisations had been about in the first place.
"I just", he broke off, took a deep breath and began again. "I know how much trouble I caused you. Not just this thing with Kyurem now. After father died...I ran off and left you all to worry about me for a whole century. After I came back you...you accepted me again immediately, without any strings or punishments whatsoever. I was too prideful during training, undermined your authority, ignored some of your lessons and warnings and...if I ha-If I hadn't managed to return to that fight with Kyurem...you would've died and it was my fault."
"Keldeo", Virizion began, but Keldeo overrode her.
"Let me finish! I had you always offering to be there for me...I ignored that. I thought...I thought I wasn't good enough, that if I let up even a little, that you'd be too disappointed and would give up on me. And so I kept all of this inside. I didn't trust you when I should have. This whole mess here...It could've been avoided if I had just talked to you." Tears were dripping down his face by now. "I guess...what I really want to say is...I'm sorry. I'm sorry for ignoring you and discarding your advice. I'm sorry for challenging Kyurem like I did and the injuries you all ended up receiving for it. I'm just sorry...all around."
For a while it was quiet between the four of them, then Keldeo heard Cobalion shift in his position and soon the Steel-Fighting-Type's cool flank was pressing up against him. Keldeo looked up and his grey eyes widened. Pride and warmth shone in the leader's golden gaze and he softly stated: "You may have made mistakes Keldeo, but so have we when we were young and no one will ever stop making them. What you have proven today is that you can admit to them and have thus learned from them."
"I think I speak for all of us, when I say, that we are very proud of you today", Virizion added.
Terrakion followed with: "You definitely did good kid, very good even."
A smirk curled Cobalion's lips now, before he looked at Terrakion and Virizion and said: "It is time, I believe."
"Overdue if you ask me", Terrakion chuckled while Virizion carefully rose to her legs.
"Wait what? What's going on?", Keldeo asked.
"Draw your Sword please, Keldeo."
The young legendary blinked at Cobalion in confusion but shifted to Resolute Form before forming Secret Sword on top of his horn. The three Swords of Justice formed their Sacred Swords as well and then Terrakion stepped forward.
"Greater than one is two." Keldeo's jaw dropped.
Virizion stepped forward next and placed her blade against Terrakion's, producing of soft clang.
"Greater than two is three."
The two Fighting-Types glanced at Keldeo expectantly and the young Pkémon jerked his head around to stare at Cobalion. Steely but proud golden eyes stared back at him and their owner nodded.
Hesitantly Keldeo stepped forward, but he finally placed his blade against Terrakion's and Virizion's and called out: "Greater than three is four."
Cobalion stepped forward as the last and added: "When the strength of friends is combined into one..."
And together the four Swords of Justice finished: "Then true power and courage are created!"
And here comes the temporary, and unfortunate, goodbye for this story. Sorry you guys. I'll try and continue this as soon as I can.
