Author's POV
Thousands of vampires gathered for the first open trial the Volturi has ever done. Why it was an open trial, no one knew. All they know is thousands of them received letters from the Volturi asking them to gather for the first open public trial when they thought the Volturi was no more. Many vampires had no idea who would be their leaders at the moment while a select few have tried to take the noble position. Those individuals all mysteriously stopped their pursuit of the coveted seats about a week before the letters were sent out.
Gathered amongst the crowd were the members who fought in the war alongside the Knights as well as some of their family members. Everyone were talking amongst themselves about who they thought were going to be the next leaders. Camille rolled her eyes when she heard one person speak about how their cousin should be the next leader while Dak just chuckled quietly. There were vampires walking around, serving blood in wine glasses to those who wanted to partake in the savory drink. Several people gladly chose to drink while others patiently waited in the giant court room. There was the ringing of a bell which silenced everyone in the room and as the doors opened, it revealed a guy dressed in all black with a smile on his face.
"Hello everyone, my name is CJ…"
As Kendall looked at himself in the mirror, he couldn't help but smile. Something he thought he'd never do in a place like this. He thought back on his wedding night when CJ approached him with the news about the vampire community. Obviously when you kill the leader of the vampires, it's going to lead to many questions, especially the question of what happens next. Carlos walked up behind his husband and smiled as he wrapped his arms around the blonde's waist.
"What are you thinking about?"
"How so much has changed since our wedding."
"Good thoughts right?"
"Of course. I mean, everyone is happy right?"
"Right. Camille and Dak get to live their lives out in Europe where they've wanted to for so long, Jett and Jo are traveling freely with Kelsey all over the world, and James and Logan ge-" There was a knock on the door and both boys turned to see that Mrs. Knight was at the door.
"Ready?" She asked them and they both nodded.
"You look nice." Carlos said to his mother-in-law as he walked towards the door.
"Thank you, so do you." Mrs. Knight said, smiling before Kendall walked out passed them dramatically. Both of them chuckled as they followed Kendall through the halls of the castle. James and Logan practically beamed when they saw Kendall, Carlos, and Mrs. Knight. Once everyone exchanged hugs, they all looked towards the double blood-red doors in front of them detailed with a giant black V in a fancy font. Carlos did his studying but couldn't seem to remember what font it was.
"Wait, where's Katie?" Mrs. Knight said and a second later Katie was right next to her.
"Sorry, I couldn't figure out how to put these stupid things on."
"They aren't stupid, they're a symbol." Mrs. Knight told her.
"Symbols can be stupid."
"She's right mom." Kendall said, turning to the woman before his husband elbowed him for messing around. As they moved to get in formation the music started playing.
"This music makes me nervous." Logan mumbled as he stood behind James who stood behind Carlos.
"Same." Katie said from her position next to him, behind Mrs. Knight who stood behind Kendall. Kendall grabbed Carlos' hand before the double doors were opened as everyone grew a bit more nervous.
"…So now it is my honor to present the new Volturi members; Kendall Knight, Carlos Knight, Jennifer Knight, James Diamond, Katie Knight, and Logan Diamond." CJ said before he stepped down and joined in with the crowd. Carlos fought off his smile when he remembered their first meeting and James called them the Diamond-Knights instead of the Volturi and everyone groaned.
Once the doors finally opened, the music turned down slightly as they walked forward. Kendall and Carlos walked forward, holding hands until they came to a stop at the very front. James and Mrs. Knight walked until they reached their position slightly behind Kendall and Carlos before they took a few steps over in order to be seen. Katie and Logan did the same thing but further back behind Mrs. Knight and James.
Everyone seemed to be in a slight state of shock while others seemed happy. Kendall almost immediately spotted the family when they walked out and everyone just looked so proud. Everyone in the crowd all at once bowed to their new leaders. The Volturi members bowed back before their chairs were pushed out from behind red curtains that were on both sides of them. They all took their seat before CJ walked up again.
"Ladies and Gentlemen, we will now begin our first trial proceedings."
Kendall and Carlos requested not to be told what the first trial proceedings were and as the doors opened on the other side of the court room, they looked at each other. One vampire was pushed forward through the crowd. He looked distraught and Carlos could see the tear stains on his cheeks. Everyone watched as the two guards pushed him onto his knees and one woman made a sound. Kendall turned to see an older looking woman crying from the far right. He guessed that the woman was the boy's mother.
Everyone turned and watched as someone else was brought into the court room. Carlos held back his emotions when he saw that it was a human being brought in. When he turned to his husband, Kendall was already looking at him. The human was pushed down onto his knees before the guards took a step back from their bodies. There was a silence in the court room besides both boys in question on their knees in the middle of the room. Logan read their minds while James watched their love blossom through their memories. Before a word could be spoken, Mrs. Knight stood up out of her chair and walked down the steps in front of them down to the boys in question. Kendall knew what his mother was going to do while everyone else looked at her in confusion as she approached the boys. Mrs. Knight could see that the human boy was shaking while the vampire boy looked down in shame. She kneeled down in front of the vampire boy.
"What is your name?" She asked him.
"N-Nolan." He said, glancing up at Mrs. Knight. When he looked back down, Mrs. Knight tilted his head back up before she spoke.
"Stand Nolan. All hope isn't lost. What is your boyfriend's name?"
"Casey." He told her as they both stood up. Several people were mumbling when Nolan stood up. Mrs. Knight walked over to Casey and held out her hand for him to grab. He looked up at her in shock and Mrs. Knight smiled seeing the hope shine bright in his eyes. The mumbling grew louder once Casey stood up.
"Hold your lover's hand." Mrs. Knight instructed before she turned and walked back to her seat. Kendall smiled at her as she held the front of her robes, making her way back. Once Mrs. Knight took her seat, James stood up.
"Nolan Vinorelli and Casey Lincoln. Both of you were born here in Europe. Nolan comes from France while Casey comes from Great Britain. Obviously born in different times. Nolan in 1976 and Casey in 1995 both look to be at the age of 19. They met several times in Paris before Casey decided to ask Nolan to be his boyfriend. Nolan took proper precautions when it came to this relationship and has yet to put Casey's life in danger. When the old Volturi members were slain a local vampire took it upon himself to regulate things when he found out about Nolan and Casey."
Once James sat down, Kendall stood up and spoke. "Ladies and gentlemen, as we all know, we have rules. Rules that must be followed in order for our race to live side by side with the human race but we were all once human. Many of you at this point have already made your judgment against this young man. You might be saying things like he put himself in that position when he should've known better." Most people nodded their heads while Nolan's mother shook her head. Kendall looked as if he was deep in thought before he turned to Carlos.
"What do you suppose we do?" Carlos looked from his husband to the two boys at the bottom of the steps before he stood up and walked down the steps. He came to a stop on the step in front of Casey who looked up at him, fear all over his face but hope in his eyes.
"Casey, I was once in your same position. Tell me what you see now."
"Y-You're a vampire."
"Do you wish to have the same fate?" Carlos asked him.
"Casey, no-"
"Yes." Carlos' eyes turned completely black and his fangs extended as he took a step down.
"No, please." Nolan said, almost dropping to his knees. Carlos retracted his fangs and his eyes returned to normal before he tilted Nolan's head up so that he was looking in his eyes.
"Why don't you want him to be just like you?"
"Because no one should have to live this horrible life of draining humans in order to live."
"Look into my eyes as I say this, I was turned by my husband and I have yet to kill any human. As long as you're there for him every step of the way as he tries to curve his appetite for human blood, he will be fine." Nolan looked down at the ground for a moment before he looked back up at Carlos and nodded. Carlos smiled at the couple before he turned and walked back up the steps.
"W-Wait, you aren't going to change me?" Casey asked once Carlos reached his seat.
"No, I will give your boyfriend the pleasure of completing that task. But only when both of you are ready. To force this on a couple could make or break them but I will caution you to figure out how to explain this to his family."
"So you're just going to let them go?" A random guy asked from the crowd.
"YOU WILL BE SILENT UNLESS YOU'VE BEEN SPOKEN TO!" Kendall said, standing up from his chair, pointing at the man. Both boys and almost everyone in the court room jumped at the booming sound of Kendall's voice. The man who spoke took several steps back into the crowd.
"These young men have done nothing wrong but love each other unconditionally. We, the new Volturi dismiss them until further notice." After Kendall spoke Carlos, James, Logan, Katie, and Mrs. Knight all nodded their heads.
Carlos POV
As I walked down the hallways of the castle, I couldn't help but smile at the beautiful thing we did for that loving couple that found each other, despite the obstacles. As I walked passed where the court doors were, I ran my hand along the pictures we have lined up along the opposite of the door. We decided the best way to commemorate the ones we lost in the war, would be to have a painter paint their portraits and hang them along the wall to remind us how we got here. With the help of James' powers, we got a very detailed picture of each person.
I looked from the paintings to the doors and I could practically hear the cheering of the two boys as we all walked back through those doors. They reminded me so much of me and Kendall when we were in their same position. I started to reminisce on how so much has changed over this short period of time. I remember almost everything from the time we first met to me finding out about him to meeting everyone. I shook my head at our fight we had let come between us before the images of the first time we made love took over my mind randomly. When it happened, Kendall came walking around the corner. He wrapped his arms around me and I laid my head on his chest.
"What's wrong?"
"Just thinking about everything that's led up to this moment."
"Oh, deep thoughts."
"Yeah."
"What're you thinking about now?"
"When we, uh, first made love and how you took so much care of me before you changed me. You made sure I was the most comfortable and I love that about you. No matter how I've treated you, you've been there for me. Even when you didn't know me, you saved me in that alley."
"You, uh, knew about that."
"Not at the time but I eventually put the pieces together."
"Huh, pieces."
"My point is, you've shown me that although you are a monster, you have the purest of hearts and I love you for that."
"I love you too." Kendall said, pulling me in for a loving kiss.
If someone would've told me that night that I was cutting myself in my bathtub that I would end up in a place like this with my husband by my side, I would've thought that they were just messing with me. When we broke apart, I looked down at my ring and just smiled. Kendall definitely saved me from self-destruction.
The End
A/N: I honestly had to make the ending the most corniest thing ever. I just...this story has been so much fun to write and I'm really sad that it's over. I hope everyone is happy with the ending and I thought it would be nice to have everyone who died in the war to be honored with their portraits along the walls of the castle. Thank you all for sticking with me and this story despite me taking forever to update. Lol, anyways please leave a review, whether its for this chapter or for this entire series it would be very much appreciated. Tell me what was your favorite part out of the entire series or favorite chapter or even your least favorite thing. It doesn't matter. I love you all for reading. ❤❤❤ :D
