Eternity
I hold you in my arms now, not believing what I see, we sit under this oak tree, the one from our childhood, you see? Your glazed eyes look up at me, pain and sadness filling them to the brim, and I find myself staring at a wound most grim, no deal of bandages, magic, or stitches can heal. Your sandy hair tumbles down symmetrically to your back, the tails at the sides of your head you now lack, and as I stare into those glazed green eyes, remembering all of our good times. I find myself weep and sob, remembering the first stopping of the cogs, when I knew I could not spend eternity with you. Your perfect hand, now very weak, raises and rests on my cheek, a small smile spreading on your face as your soul slowly diminishes, to leave without a trace. "Kid, please, I wanted this. You're safe now and your life can continue." You whisper tenderly to me, as I look up at our withering tree. The dead leaves flutter to the ground, and my tears fall without a sound. "Kid…" you begin again "Please… Before I leave you… I need you to know…" and your voice cracks, so I lift you to my face, urging you to keep with me, so I can spend with you the last of days. "Death the Kid… I love you…." You whisper quietly to me, and joy fills my broken heart, mending it for the first time since the start. You weakly lift your head, pressing your lips to my cold ones, which might as well be dead. We stay like this for what seems like forever, till I break our embrace with a soft reply, "Maka Albarn… I'll love you till the day I die…" and with that you shed a tear, and I decide that it will be here, under this dying tree, where you will spend eternity with me. You close your eyes and breathe your last breath, cry your last, and lay your body to rest. I sense your soul blaze with freedom and slowly flicker out, with a finality that shakes the very earth. I hold you close so that you may see, that under this very tree, that I shall join you with freedom and glee. I howl with sorrow, and shake with pain, that I have lost what I had just gained. I take from my pocket, a simple knife, a knife to end all of this strife. I stare into its reflection and see, my three white lines and me. I lay your dead form at the base of the tree, and etch our names into the tree, so that all may see, that this is where we shall spend eternity. I lay down beside you and take the knife, holding it above my shattered heart, that was dead from the very start. With a sharp thrust and a pained cry, I feel my soul fly. And on that day, I made a solemn vow, that seems so very powerful now, a promise to your broken tomb, that you shall never be alone. And now I climb the steps to your soul, where you wait with open arms for me. We embrace and whisper to each other "I will love you. Now and forever."
