All I do is wait for Link to come back from the holes in the Sea of Clouds. There are three, and he insists on flying straight down into them regardless of how low he has to take me to the barrier. A majority of the time it is way low, lower than I would ever fly myself. I never bother to look at what he does- I'm not sure I'd want to know.
He's a rare type- kind of like me. While we're out flying he talks to me about how much he wants Zelda back. She's a sweet girl, but her bird is very snooty. "Look at me, I'm the goddess' Loftwing." Well I'm the hero's. I'm the last Crimson Loftwing in existence that the humans know of, and they think I'm very special. My sister laughs at me every time I go back to see her.
Our nest is high, higher than any human could ever go. With the weight of all the air where they live, they wouldn't be able to get enough oxygen to their brains. Link might be able to handle it, seeing as he's got unusually strong lungs for a human. I guess it's because he's constantly below the cloud barrier, and if the air is heavy in Skyloft, it must be crushing down below.
I banked hard to avoid the errant tornado from the thunderhead. I'd been run over by one of those too many times to count, and it was not an experience I'd like to repeat. One strong flap and I was above it.
I'd figured out that Link would come back up around the same beam of light he had gone down through, and his most recent venture had been through the red beam. I was hesitant to drop him, because there had been some extremely nerve-wracking rumblings coming from below. He had jumped off anyway, probably not even hearing the noises. Humans have pretty terrible hearing, as I was finding out.
The orange light burst through the clouds and Link shot through the hole it created, whistling as loud as he could. He looked as if someone had pushed him through a tornado and then over a cliff. I swooped underneath him and he expertly adjusted his stance. I sensed that I would be doing a majority of the navigation. He was barely holding onto my collar.
"Haff... Haff... Fi?" I heard him wheeze.
That freaky blue humanoid creature started speaking in response. "Yes, Master?"
Master. Hah. That weird robot girl called him Master?
"You gotta warn me when something like that is about to go down, alright?"
"Of course, Master. I apologize, for my mind was on other matters at that moment. When I was stolen from you, I felt the ones who did the deed die within moments of touching me. It is a most peculiar phenomenon. In addition, I do not know why I was left in the dirt in the cavern. Perhaps you have some insight on the matter?"
"No, Fi. My brain is sorta barely working right now. Why don't you ask me again when I've slept, sewn my clothes, dressed my wounds, and cleaned you up? You're all dirty from those animals putting their hands all over you."
"Understood, Master."
In the silence that followed, I flew Link right to the dock down the steps from the academy. I squawked at the odd girl who flew her bird too hard as Link fell off my back. While she hurried over to help him up, I backed up to the very edge of the platform. Once Link was walking I took off for my nest.
Like I said, I didn't know what he did on the surface, and I didn't want to.
