This is officially the last chapter for this story. Sorry to those who have been wanting more updates. I just haven't had any good ideas lately for either of my Suze fanfictions, so I'm ending them both. Hope you enjoy the last chapter!
Suze's POV
June
I paced back and forth in the bedroom, my hands on my lower back, breathing as evenly as I could. My contractions were getting worse.
Much worse.
Jesse was getting Catarina settled in the car, and I was waiting for him to be done. I was nervous, I'd admit it. While I was ready to get this baby out of me, I was worried about everything going well. Even with the advances that medicine and science had made in the last few centuries, it was still dangerous to have a baby. Things could go wrong. I could die. My baby could die. There could be –
"Susannah. Are you ready?"
I stopped my pacing and looked Jesse. "Yes. Get me to the hospital."
Jesse helped me out to the car and got me buckled in. Then he drove infuriatingly slow to the hospital.
Didn't he realize that I was over here having a baby?
"Jesse, drive faster," I said through gritted teeth.
"Susannah, driving too fast is even more dangerous. What if we got into a car accident with you in labor?"
"Oh, shut up! Drive faster!"
He ignored me.
I was so going to kill him.
Finally, finally, we got to the hospital. I was admitted into a room, and then my doctor came to check my dilation. He seemed a bit surprised. "You're already at a nine, Mrs. de Silva."
He and his nurses prepped, doing whatever it is that doctors and nurses do when preparing to deliver a baby. I just sat there and squeezed the crud out of my husband's hand because I was in so much pain. I was glad that Jesse's mom had been able to meet us at the hospital. She was out in the waiting room, keeping Catarina entertained while I suffered through agonizing pain.
"I want an epidural," I whined.
"You're too far along for that," Jesse said, sweeping the hair out of my face. "The labor is going too quickly."
I groaned.
"You're now at a ten, Mrs. de Silva, and it's time to start pushing."
I screamed as I pushed. Why had I thought that it would be fun to experience the full pregnancy? This hurt. This hurt so much.
Two hours later, after much screaming and laughing – it was laughter of pain – a new scream filled the room. The scream of a baby.
And then she was placed in my arms, a perfect little angel.
I looked down at my screaming daughter, her little limbs flailing as she cried her heart out. At least I knew her lungs were healthy. There was nothing to worry about there. Smiling, I held her tiny hand.
"Our baby, Jesse. Isn't she perfect?"
Jesse pressed a kiss to the top of my head, looking down at our daughter. "She looks just like you."
"No, she has your darker skin. But it doesn't matter. Whatever she looks like, she's perfect. Just like her sister. Adriana de Silva."
Jesse kissed my lips softly. "I love you, Susannah. I love our family."
