Prompt: Laugh

We've changed, you and I. There was a time when we were young. I suppose we still are in some sense. To the outside world we're children playing in a war that isn't ours. We know better. When was the last time you smiled? I can't recall. I know I haven't smiled in a long time.

You had the most glorious laugh. It was like a choir of angels singing. You made me believe in Heaven and people and all sorts of things cynics like me aren't supposed to believe in. You made me smile.

When I close my eyes all I can see is your face. As I sleep, I dream of that time we took a walk in the moonlight. It shined off your hair. I can't remember what we talked about. I suppose it was something simple—meaningless. We used to enjoy that. All I remember is the way you smelled of honeysuckle, the way the moonlight shined off your hair, and your eyes. Your eyes were on me the whole time. It was like you didn't care if your feet left the ground. I was your whole world. And you were mine.

One day, maybe this will all make sense. Maybe the sacrifices we've made here today and every day of our lives leading up to this point will mean something. Maybe someone will look back on this and say that what we did was right. Maybe they'll be grateful for that. I don't know. All I know is, I wish you never taught me to believe in Heaven, because now we're bound for Hell.
