DISCLAIMER!: I used Dumbledore's speech from the movie...! I, by no means wrote it myself!
Holy shit... I FINALLY DID IT! IT'S FINISHED! I NEVER THOUGHT I WOULD GET HERE?! Thank you so. Much. For joining me on this journey, I'm sure I must have pissed you off at least ONCE with how little I would update this at times... BUT HOLY FUCKING MERLIN! WE MADE IT! Enjoy the COMPLETE fic! :D ~ A/N
The whole school was in a state of panic until the next morning came. Many had dark circles around their eyes, some had messy hair, others could barely speak... All was quiet in the converted great hall as the students and professors waited for their Headmaster to speak.
He sat tiredly at his chair, thinking, it seemed, how he could relay such a terrible event.
The weight of the eyes on him forced him to begin.
"Today… we acknowledge a really terrible loss..." He paused before standing and stepping towards the crowd of friends, colleagues, and students.
"Cedric Diggory was, as you all know, exceptionally hard-working, infinitely fair-minded… And most importantly, a fierce, fierce friend… Now I think, therefore, you have the right to know how he died…
"You see, Cedric Diggory was murdered, by Lord Voldemort…! The Ministry of Magic does not wish me to tell you this! But not to do so, I think, would be an insult to his memory…!
"Now, the pain we all feel at this loss, reminds me—reminds us—that while we may come from different places and speak in different tongues, our hearts beat as one…
"In light of recent events, the bonds of friendship we made this year will be more important than ever…! Remember that and Cedric Diggory will not have died in vein…! You remember that, and we will celebrate a boy who was… kind and honest… and brave and true, right to the very end..."
Students were exchanging goodbyes and the halls were empty… an emptiness that rang with sorrow as footsteps sounded softly down them.
"What did you do?!" A hollow voice demanded as he stopped, not even turning a fraction to face the ghost.
"Morning Amelia… I didn't realize the departed woke up so-"
"Don't ignore my question like it isn't important, you bloody git! What the fuck did you do to Lidea?!"
He twitched lightly at the mention of her name.
"I haven't the slightest idea of what-"
"Don't bullshit me! She doesn't remember anything! She doesn't remember anything that happened between the both of you…! So I'll say it again… What did you do to her?"
He closed his eyes and inhaled deeply.
"You know what I did..."
"But why…? You were both so happy..."
"That's precisely why I had to do it… There was no way she would be happy working for him… Hell, she might have even died…"
"That's not a good enough reason to make her forget…! I swear to Merlin, if I were a poltergeist-"
He whipped around now, his robes billowing and his face savage.
"Her happiness isn't a good enough reason?! Pray tell, if that isn't a good. Enough. Reason. Then tell me, what is!? If seeing her, the way she was these past few weeks, and then continuing to worsen her state by forcing her back into the Death Eaters, is a better. Decision. Then you truly did not know Lidea like I did…!"
"You wouldn't need to force her back into the Death-"
"Then what? Burden her with the fact that I cannot escape the Dark Lord without endangering her? Would that be a good enough reason not to alter her memories?!"
He turned around, his eyes stinging, and began his journey to the dungeons with the beginnings of a raw throat, leaving Amelia with nothing but her thoughts.
MEANWHILE…
"I just really wish the year hadn't ended on such a note, Minerva… It would have been so much more enjoyable for everyone…" Lidea sighed as they made their way down the empty halls.
"Yes… I can only imagine what will happen now… I merely hope nothing will happen to anyone when they're outside the castle grounds..."
Lidea nodded, rubbing her shoulder as she stared down at the cobblestone.
"I'm not so sure if I will be staying to teach another year… I just wish I took more time to get to know some of the professors..."
"Don't apologize dear, you had work to take care of what with all the other students… Besides, didn't you talk to a few of the professors while you were here…?"
"Not really… Nothing note worthy anyway..."
Minerva looked to her now, wondering if something had happened. She knew Lidea had spent time with Severus quite often…
But before she could dwell on the matter any longer, a black clothed professor distracted them.
"Professor Snape!"
Lidea ran down the hall, trying her best to catch up to the potions master, as he tried to keep up the usual scowl she remembered.
"Miss. Anderson…?"
"I'm sorry I wasn't able to get to know you a little better… I'm sorry if you felt like I was stealing your job, I assure you that was not my intention, it's just when Dumbledore contacted me..."
She was babbling… She always did so when she was nervous…
"Nonsense… Will you be returning for another year…?"
She slid a lock of hair between her fingers and looked sideways towards the ground.
"I'm not sure yet… I want to talk to Dumbledore before I do anything rash..."
His chest twitched.
"Well, good luck either way I suppose..."
"Thank you… I really am sorry I didn't get to talk to you too much… I know most wizards don't care to talk to you on a casual basis, and please don't take this as me pitying you, but I wanted to be able to give you someone to talk to. I guess with all the students we all kind of got distracted."
She chuckled nervously. His throat tightened.
"Yes… well, I have some tidying to do in preparation for next year..."
"Of course…"
He turned and headed back in the direction he was previously traveling, his throat on fire as he balled his fists and straightened his back.
"Goodbye, Severus!"
Something wet slid down his cheek as he muttered back.
"Goodbye, Lidea..."
