Strange what comes up when you're standing by the vegetables in the pridyce section of a grocery store. The song is 'In Color' by Jamey Johnson. This came because I wondered if Voltaire ever was a real grandfather… Then this came up in my mind from the radio and it sparked.

Go on youtube land look up 'In Color,' it's a gorgeous video by Jamey Johnson.

Disclaimer: I don't own beyblade nor 'In Color'.

A young Kai, only 4 years old, looked up at the box that had been consuming his curiosity for a week now. He was too short to grab it then; but now…

Tiny fingers reached up and just snagged the smooth sides of the box. Pulling it off, Kai yelped as it fell; pictures went everywhere, and he sat with the box on his head, covering one eye in the mess.

His grandfather Voltaire was first on the scene. "Oh, Kai, lookw hat you did now! Let's get this cleaned up."

Kai nodded, taking the box off his head and grabbing a picture. Red eyes narrowed and he held it out. "Grampa, what's this? Is that you? It's all blac and white and nblurry."

Voltaire took it and smiled. "Yes. I was eleven. Times were hard back in '35, my son. This is me and your dad's uncle Joe trying to survive a cotton farm in a great depression."

Kai cocked his head. "You look so scared."

Voltaire chuckled. "If it looks like we were scared to death, just like a couple of kids trying to save each other, you should've seen it in color, Kai."

Then he grabbed another and showed it to his grandson. "This one here was taken overseas in the middle of chaos in 1943 in the wintertime. You can almost see my breath there."

Kai squinted and smiled. "I can! But who's that?"

Voltaire looked back. "That was my tail gunner, ole Johnny McGee. He was a high school teacher from New Orleans. He had my back right through the day we left."

Kai smirked slightly. "It looks like you're scared."

"When you have bullets whizzing over your head, you tend to be. But if it looks like we're scared to death, like a few kids trying to save each other, you should've seen it in color. Eyes flashing, red faces, and white fingers."

Then Kai grabbed one and said, "Who's this lady?"

Voltaire's smile shrank until it was a small one. "This one is one of my favorites. This is me and your grandmother in the summer sun, all dressed up the day we said our vows."

Kai's forehead crinkled and his head tilted. "Said your vows?"

"Got married. You'll do it someday." Chuckling at Kai's shocked expression, he continued. You can't tell here because of the coloring, or lack thereof, but it was hot that June. This rose was red and her eyes were blue as the sky. And look at that smile. I was proud to become her husband."

Kai looked around as Voltaire's hand swept around. "This is like a story of my life, right here before you in black and white. And if it looks like I was scared to death with someone, like a couple of kids trying to save each other, you should've been there to see it in color."

Kai nodded. "These are good, save the colors."

Voltaire nodded. "A picture's worth a thousand words, but you can't really see what those shades of gray keep covered. It'd be amazing to see it in color."

Kai nodded. "yeah… In color."

There it is, short sweet and simple. The song is a bit slower, and is a country song. Over four minutes long, but you know who cares? Good song if you like guitars and imagining things. Please review, I have another two ideas in the making (Shower this time…) and want to know if you guys and gals would like to see them!
