Loki carried Finna out of the palace and into the busy street, keeping a tight hold on her in the crowd.
Instead of being scared or shy, Finna was actively looking around at as many sights as she could. The noise, colours and smells enchanted her. There was music coming from a small group of men down one street, the smell of baking bread and cakes from another and a toy stand not too far away from them.
"Which way first, my love?" Loki asked the miniature princess who was still wearing her flower crown. Finna looked around and pointed to the musicians, babbling happily to her father. "Alright, let's go see them."
When they reached the band of men, they all took one look at the Prince and his daughter and bowed deeply. The leader found his voice quickly, "How may we serve you, my prince?"
Loki smiled warmly, "We were just out for a walk and heard your lovely music, my daughter wanted to get closer. She is already a great lover of music."
The band leader smiled at the girl, "I have one about her age at home, myself. He's a handful to be sure!" A hearty laugh left the man as he though of his youngest son. "Now, what shall we play for the little princess?"
Finna watched the man talk with her father, occasionally interjecting with some nonsense of her own. "Don't worry about her, any music makes her happy." he chuckled.
"Very well, we'll see what we can come up with." the band leader nodded, and stuck up the band. They started playing a softer song, not slow but not too fast or loud- so as to not hurt her little ears. Finna clearly loved it- she clapped her hands and watched them rapturously until they finished.
Loki handed them a few gold coins, despite the leader's protest.
"You've pleased her far more than I ever could with an instrument, take them, I'm sure you all have families to care for."
The leader and the band members thanked him and cooed over Finna before they moved on to find their next audience. Finna waved at them as they left, something that charmed all of those who were watching them.
Loki and Finna also continued on, this time toward the smell of baking bread. It was one of Loki's favorite smells in all the realms and Finna seemed to like it too. Once they were in the bakery she pointed to her mouth. "Do you want a snack? Okay, but don't tell your grandmother that I gave you sugar. What shall we have?"
Finna looked at the sweets with their brightly coloured frosting and pointed to a pink iced pastry. "Good choice." Loki nodded and kissed her cheek.
He bought the pastry and sat at a small table with Finna in his lap as they shared the snack. Due to her young age and not having all that many teeth, the little girl got to eat more frosting than pastry- which was fine with her.
Once they were done, and no longer sticky, it was time to take in more of the sights. Loki wandered the rows of shops and tents, Finna content to watch and occasionally make him stop to look at something. So far they'd stopped to see, toys, a basket of kittens and a lady selling homemade jam. The kittens were the biggest hit and Loki had to convince Finna to put the little one she was holding ever so gently back in the basket.
Eventually they'd made their way through most of the market and Loki could see Finna was getting tired, "Ready to go home, darling?" he asked softly.
She shook her head and pointed to the directions the kittens had been in. Loki sighed, knowing he was going to end up buying one for his daughter. She had been a perfect little angel, he rationalized, and it would be nice for her to have a companion...
By the time he had her home and down for a nap, his mother had heard of their day and was standing in Finna's bedroom doorway holding a small black kitten.
"What?" Loki asked with mock defensiveness, "You said not to buy her a pony- you didn't say anything about a kitten."
Frigga shook her head and smiled, "Fair enough."
Loki took the kitten from his mother and set it in a blanket lined basket next to Finna's crib so she would see him when she woke up.
Taking his mother's arm, they walked from the room to leave the two babies to sleep.
"She helped name him, by the way. He is called Quin."
Loki thought they'd had the perfect afternoon together, and he was right- Finna had charmed all who saw her and all who saw him dotting on her couldn't help but know he'd changed for the better. But, he'd been so enamored with his daughter that he'd failed to notice they were being observed.
