Disclaimer: We don't own Simon or Isabelle. They belong to The Mortal Instruments and Cassandra Clare.
These will be a series of drabbles/one-shots about Simon and Isabelle's relationships so the chapters don't necessarily follow each other. These are also posted on our tumblr: Isabelle- -Lewis (there's two hyphens)
I wanted to try drabbling from a different point of view so this is going to be from Jace and Clary's pov.
Summer
Cicadas sang into the night sky and fireflies began to make their usual rounds, buzzing through the trees and around the lake in specks of light. The reflection of the sun as the light shone brightly in the lake warmed the soft breeze that blew through the grass. It was most definitely one of those perfect summer days which was why the usual gang found themselves lazing around the lake, basking in one of the few short breaks they were allowed.
Alec and Magnus were off somewhere together, perhaps taking a walk through the abundance of foliage that grew around them. Simon and Isabelle were together laying under the shade of a gingko tree. Simon, laying on back, while Isabelle rested her head on his stomach. They seemed to be talking inaudibly with an ocassional laugh coming from one of them that would echo through the lake.
Clary found these times to be most enjoyable, especially when the hectic realms of reality were nowhere to be found. It made times like these seem untangible but equally wonderful - she had always imagined herself to spend summers like these with her best friend. More so it made her realize how much Simon had endured and changed over the past couple of years.
"Enjoying the view?" Clary felt a blanket wrap around her shoulders as Jace sat down beside her.
"Yeah, I'm just looking at Simon and Isabelle, actually," she responded.
"Actually, I was referring to myself." Jace smiled and Clary punched him lightly on his shoulder and laughed before wrapping the blanket tighter around herself.
"I mean, I've never seen Simon this happy before. It's," she thought to herself, trying to pick the right word to say. "Nice."
Jace was quiet for awhile before saying, "Isabelle too. I haven't seen her this happy before, either."
"Who would've thought right?"
"That some mundie friend of yours could make her so happy?" He joked.
"He's not just some mundie friend, Jace. And you don't have to hide the fact that you actually like him, because we already know you do."
"He's okay." Clary shook her head knowing that that was eons greater of a compliment she ever expect to hear from Jace about Simon. But she would accept that that was his way of saying that he really liked Simon, even if it pained him to admit it.
The two found themselves watching Simon and Isabelle for far longer than they had expected. Clary watching the way her best friend smiled as his hands carded through Isabelle's long black hair that spilled out across his stomach. Jace watching his sister clutching her stomach in laughter like he had never seen her do before. As if for once in her life, she could afford to be carefree and to let go of all the miniscule problems that decorated her life.
Isabelle abruptly sat up from where she was laying and eventually Simon did too as he repositioned himself so as Isabelle was sitting in front of him with his legs on either side of her. He had his face close to hers as it seemed he was whispering something into her ear. Clary felt something akin to jealously but not quite so. She was so used to being the one that Simon shared his secrets with. Still, Isabelle smiled and planted a kiss on his cheek. He wrapped his arms around her tighter as she nuzzled a cheek against his arms and they continued to sit together in their own world.
"I really am happy for her. For the both of them," Jace spoke up. "Before Simon came around, she was always looking for happiness in so many different places. Never making up her mind. Like she was looking for-"
"-catharsis." Clary finished for him.
"Exactly. She was very adamant in not giving her heart away," Jace said.
"Simon does have his way of making you feel comfortable," Clary added almost too softly. "I should know."
Jace stared at her with a strange look on his face. "Well, before we go off on memory lane, we should probably give them a little bit of privacy." He quickly added, "Not that I expect anything to happen in the open."
"Agreed," Clary responded getting up from where she was sitting leaving Simon and Isabelle alone under the tree and the dim light of the setting sun.
