November 13th, 2010- The Once Happy Couple

The house was dark and chilly, a certain heaviness could be felt all throughout it.

Normally at 7pm he would find her in the kitchen preparing the dessert for that night. The meal would've been on the island waiting to be eaten by both of them. He would come into the kitchen and wrap his arms around her waist, dropping a soft kiss on her shoulder and picking up two plates for supper. They would both head to the living room and enjoyed their meal while watching a movie or engaging in some small conversation.

But not today, today Calleigh wasn't baking and dinner couldn't be found on the island. Today Eric walked into a dark house, a certain heaviness could be felt all over it. Eric sighed as he walked up the stairs and called Calleigh's name. He stepped into the master bedroom and noticed the bed was undone and the bathroom door was locked and the light was on.

"Calleigh?" he called, his worry perking up.

He walked next to the bathroom door and knocked. Sniffles could be heard from inside the bathroom and he sighed once again. He sat on the floor, his back resting against the bathroom door.

"Maybe this was meant to be? Maybe we shouldn't have a baby at all. Maybe we'll never do," she whispered against the door, tears falling from her eyes.

"Don't say that. There are other options baby," he said as he stared into the horizon.

"I'm so sorry," she whispered and cried once again.

"Calleigh we both know that this is not your fault. So open up please. Come on," he said, knocking on the door once again. A few moments and sniffles later, he could hear the bathroom door being unlocked and opened. Calleigh came out tearful and walked into his open arms. He hugged her tight and dropped a kiss to her head.

"Baby don't worry, it's all going to be all right you'll see," he whispered as he tangled his hand on her golden hair. He placed both hands on her cheeks and dropped a kiss onto her soft lips. Calleigh nodded and pulled away.

"I'm going to head to bed. I'm tired," she whispered and kissed him again.

Eric knew exactly what was happening, she was shutting him out once again. He sighed and nodded towards the bed, "I'm going to take a shower, go lay down and wait for me," he smiled and walked away.

The door closed behind him and he looked at the trash can. Inside there were 3 pregnancy tests each one of them showing one simple answer, no baby for the once happy couple.

And the worst thing was that he didn't knew how to fix this. In fact, nobody knew what was wrong. They both went to two different doctors plus Alexx and everything was normal, so, why weren't they pregnant? To tell you the truth, Eric, he'd always wanted a baby with Calleigh, but having her was enough, and if they never have a baby, he'd be more than content to grow old alone with Calleigh. Nonetheless he wasn't so sure if Calleigh would be happy without a baby. She had fantasized about this for a long time. On different occasions he'd caught her staring at the toddlers display on Children's Place as they shopped for her nephew. He'd seen the longing look she'd had as soon as she caught sight of his -now- very pregnant sister. He'd seen her with his nieces and nephews, the need to have a few of her own. He was fine without a baby, but Calleigh? He wasn't so sure that she would be okay with this.

A sigh left his lips as he let the warm water fall all over him. He closed his eyes and rubbed his face. He stared at the tiles in front of him and closed his eyes once again. He couldn't say that his relationship with Calleigh was a bit rocky now, but he also couldn't say that it was perfect. Somehow amid the desperation to have a baby, they'd forgotten to love each other. Love-making had been strictly left to ovulating days and a few other days when work hadn't been exhausting, but still it had been monotonous, with one purpose and one purpose only, to have a baby. Its as if along the desperation to have a baby, they've lost themselves. His heart ached as he realized that he missed his Calleigh, and he was pretty sure that she missed him too. He missed the tender moments they used to share in the shower, he missed the feel of her lips along his neck as he made love to her, he missed the feel of her skin against his lips as he kissed every patch of ivory skin. He missed Calleigh. In that moment Eric realized something big, it was time to turn the helm, time to change the course of their relationship because if not, they were heading straight into cataclysm. It was time to take a break from the desperation, the wanting, the need of a baby, it was time to invest in their relationship, it was time to start loving one-another like before and to show each other how much they cared. Unlike the baby, this was something that Eric could fix, because it needed fixing, and fast. Suddenly he opened his eyes and offered a small smile.

His shower was quick and he stepped out wearing his sweatpants. Calleigh was already in bed, her back facing him and eyes closed as she tried to fall asleep. He sat on his side and placed a hand on her hip and rubbed it up and down. Calleigh's eyes opened and she turned to face him, he was smiling and looked at her lovingly he closed the distance between their mouths and kissed her tenderly. At first, Calleigh didn't respond to the kiss, but later on she bit his lower lip and wrapped her arms around his neck. He broke the kiss and with his thumb he pushed back a strand of hair that covered her face.

"I love you," He whispered to her and she stared at him and offered him a tired smile.

"We need some time away from this city, this baby thing, work. Lets go for a few days on a vacation, lets forget about this. Lets just go," he said as he smiled at her. The mere thought of being away from this crazy city with the love of his life leaving him feeling giddy and relaxed.

"Eric… I can't, I mean, work has been crazy these past few days, they need us there," she replied staring at their hands now together, which Eric pulled to his face and kissed her knuckles.

"Calleigh, after all we've been through we deserve a few days away. Baby this'll do us good, it's good for our relationship! I'm sure H wouldn't mind. Besides you have like a couple thousands of vacation days saved up! Lets go, please?" he pouted at her.

Calleigh sighed and nodded.

"Ok. I just need to talk to H," she replied as she stared at his eyes. She kissed him and lay back down, Eric followed suit, wrapped his arms around her waist and pulled her to him. She breathed in her hair scent and closed his eyes. He certainly couldn't wait to go away with her. The only problem was deciding where to go.
