Day 4: Crossover

Mako sat silently, watching his pupil meditate from afar, drowning in memories of another Avatar doing the exact same thing. If the boy's eyes were open, an ice-blue glow would be apparent, signaling his transition to another world.

Soon, the child opened his eyes, a light of understanding replacing the glow. He looked over to Mako, sadness seeping into his expression at the sight of the firebending master. The boy walked over to his teacher, hesitating to say the words that Mako needed to hear.

"I crossed over, and she was there. She told me some Avatar stuff, but she also told me to tell you how proud she was of you, and how much she misses you. She looked happy, but when I got up there, she was watching you. She says she has been watching you for the past fifteen years."

Mako chuckled, shaking his head at the boy's words. It sounded so much like Korra to stay right by him, even when separated by the barrier of life and death, that his heart ached to touch her. He wanted to join her, but right now, it was his duty to educate the next Avatar in the ways of firebending.

"She would have liked you a lot, you know," he finally glanced up at the teenager, patting the ground next to him. "You remind me so much of her, it's funny. The same mischevious smile, the same cunning when you wanted something forbidden, the same unconditional love for those around you. I miss her a lot, but right now, it's my job to take care of you."

The boy smiled ruefully at Mako's words, understanding that for him to be here, the master's wife had to have died. "Tell me a story, please. Any story- about you and Korra, though."

Mako grinned, launching into a tale of polar bear dogs and Equalists and seaweed noodles. They sat there for the rest of the day, immersed in tales of the previous Avatar and her love.

In the Spirit World, Korra sat, riveted, intent on watching her next life and her love talk about her. Spirits, she missed him so much. But, when his time came, they would be together forever.
