Tom sat in the passenger seat of Hal's car; he fidgeted, it was a full moon and the rays of the giant orb cast down upon the car searing into him. 'Can wi get guin, like now' He huffed as Hal got into the old rustic vehicle. Hal got into the car. ''Where are you transforming tonight, I will need to know where to come and fetch you from in the morning. We cant keep having episodes like last month now can we' He smirked, only feeling a little cruel for irking his friend. 'It want my fault that Alex dint pack mi no clothes na war it' Hal chuckled again at the memory of Tom's poor undignified look as he had returned from his transformation still in nothing but his birthday suit that morning. The looks he must have received.
All traces of light humour had evaporated as the car pulled up aside the woods that for the night would be Tom's prison. Tom shakily opened the door; stepping out into the cool night air. He took a deep sigh and nodded down at Hal then turned briskly and jogged up into the forest. Hal watched until Tom became little more than a fly in the distance then vanished. Hal would often wait a while... he didn't know why exactly. He presumed to himself it was just to make sure everything was calm and safe for Tom; well as much as it could under the circumstances. The digital clock on the dashboard bleeped telling Hal that it was midnight and time for him to go. He turn the keys in the ignition; the car gave a heave and a splutter. Nothing. Hal's eyes widened In panic. 'Shit!' He tried it again and again, then three more times after that. He checked the clock again 00:03 Tom will still be transforming he thought. He opened the door and stepped into the night. Checking all around him. If there was anything that unsettled a vampire...it was being stuck. Out in the open. On a full moon. With a werewolf.
With shaking hands Hal opened the bonnet of the car; releasing a foul cloud of smoke from the engine. Desperately he tried to look into the smoke but even his superior sight couldn't make anything out past the smog and the darkness. A gut wrenching howl ricocheted through the air ; breathing hard he stepped back from the car and scanned the out skirts of the forest...A beast. Not made by nature nor by man, but the very essence of evil itself charged down the slope of the hill; a trail of steam from its breathe misting into the air behind it, it was hard to conceive that it was his friend...tom. Frozen to the spot Hal couldn't for the life of him take his eyes away from the beast. His life passed in rosettes and circles through his mind; a small meaningless dark life as a human...to a life of blood and split personalities as a vampire.
Snapping awake as if from a dream Hal mentally kicked him self, the beast was almost upon him; he had perhaps seconds if fate were kind to get back into the car and pray for a miracle...fate wasn't kind.
Fangs two inches long sank into the soft flesh between Hal's shoulder and neck. Hellish pain shot through his body as the wolf dragged him to the ground and wrapped a large bear like paw across his leg and scorched three long trails of blood and fire up his thigh; Hal yelled in agony...it felt odd in his mind; for the only heart beat he could hear was his own.
The wolf batted a large paw at Hal's torso, barely conscious there was nothing he could do but sail through the air and land with a sickening thud upon his ankle which cracked. He seized the moment having roughly a minute to attempt a phone call that probably...no definitely would save his life. His arm shook with effort and protest as Hal reached into his coat pocket and pulled out his mobile. The screen was soon covered in his own blood...rich and sweet he had to fight not to lick it from the screen.
Back at home Alex was tucked up on the sofa top gear droning away on the T.V though she knew she didn't need the blanket she refused to not have one; It made her feel normal...human.
She looked up at the clock nervous that Hal had not returned home yet it was 00:31AM and he was usually punctual, she had a sickening feeling that something was wrong just as her phone rang from the table. Unravelled from the quilt Alex sprang towards the phone. 'Hal, Hal! What's going on; where are you?' On the other end of the call she heard a blood curdling yell and Hal's raspy breathe on the end of the line 'Oh god' terror etched its way onto Alex's face 'Oh god Hal I'm coming!'
Hal lay in a disgruntled heap unconscious and not moving; Tom was moving in again to finish off the battered and bruised vampire, many thoughts flashed their way through Alex's mind one being she had never seen a werewolf and now she was saving her flaming vampire friend from her other friend who just happened to be trying to kill him. Then 'That's it!' she focused on the memory of Annie's voice in her head 'Hal isn't a living thing' She ran, grabbed his lifeless form and pictured herself safe. When her eyes opened again she was in the car Hal slumped on the back seat eyes fluttering open; up the hill she could see the beast had stopped stunned it snapped across its head and glared down at the car before it began to run. She turned the keys in the ignition only to face the same dilemma as Hal did.
'Right oh God, what do I do' she opened her mind...she remembered something Annie had said; before the fire, before she went on to the other side, it was another cool ghostly trick. Focusing her energy and thought she pictured herself to be one with the car; feeling its power and cables she forced her energy there; With a sigh of relief the car came to life. Alex couldn't help herself a quick 'Get in!' before she sped of away from the beasts of the night...their luck changed as the beast lost interest smelling a small deer in the forest above he gave up on his pursuit of the night walker and the dead girl; for they would not fill him anyway.
He looked terrible sweat beaded feverishly on his brow; great gaping holes of teeth marks that had shredded Hal's shoulder. Three rivers and pumping blood seeped from his leg and soaked into the fabric of the car; Alex had to hold in a cry...crying wouldn't save him...She steeled herself and checked back on him again, 'oh shit' Though Hal's eyes were squinted and his breathing shallow she could clearly see that both eyes had darkened to an empty black; two fangs protruded from his gums. He needed blood and he needed it now; in panic she nearly missed the house she pulled up the car and placed her hand gingerly on Hal fearful of him now; safe inside the house she lay him down on the sofa. Shaking she began to panic, What am I going to do, he's dying. Helpless, invisible. A tear rolled onto her cheek; disappearing before it hit the floor.
Then she remembered, she had been to the blood bank; on holiday here before the whole ghost fiasco, she had donated blood there to the hospital. She could rentaghost, get the blood. You cant leave him she looked down at Hal, her heart clenched. She still had feelings for him. God she was messed up.
The blood bank was empty; luckily being a ghost she couldn't be caught on camera; she also wouldn't trip any lasers that may be hidden from her view. The room was white; typical hospital décor, a shiver ran down her spine; wall upon wall of blood; like people stood there waiting to be used...she guessed that's how the vampires saw it. Well most of them; she hurried on not bothering with types or patterns; she was sure Hal wouldn't mind which blood saved his life. She crammed as many as she could into her arms and rentaghosted back to the house.
Manoeuvred from the sofa he had crawled onto the floor and made his way across to the bar; white hot sticky pain ran through is leg and shoulder...he had never been in so much pain in his entire life; that was saying something.
