Momentous.
Summary: "I wish I could just freeze this moment, right here, right now, and live in it forever,"-The Perks of Being a Wallflower.
Former Fire Lord (now unofficial travelling ambassador of the Fire Nation) Zuko is an old man. And he will say as much. Even though he absolutely abhors to admit it, he's actually turning into a less crazy-in his opinion- version of his late Uncle Iroh. He feels wiser. And smarter. And more loving. And fucking hell, he even enjoys a cup of tea every now and then.
But, as previously stated, he is old. And old people like to think back on their lives. At least, that' s what Iroh has always told Zuko. Maybe it's really weird and only happens in fiction scrolls, but that's beside the point. Zuko is old and tired and he's ready to die, but Agni dammit, he can't recall the most important event in his life.
Sure, there's the time he was banished from the Fire Nation.
When he rescued the Avatar as the Blue Spirit.
The time he told off Ozai and the dick bent lightning at him.
Or the time when he joined Team Avatar.
Ooh, there's the one time when he traveled with Katara to face the man who killed her mother.
When he FUCKING DIED.
Um..that time he confessed to Katara and they kind of um..had sex, yeah…
Or when he became Fire Lord.
…Yeah, sure, when he got married to Mai.
When his beautiful daughter was born.
That time when those damned bloodbenders were overrunning Republic City.
That time when the Gaang reunited to find Aang and Katara's kid Kya and it turned out she was just bumming it with some hippies.
Or when his daughter gave birth to Iroh.
Then there's the time when his mom finally decided to show up.
And then when he met Korra.
But, Zuko thought to himself, none of these moments defined him. Well, yeah, they kind of did. But then again, they didn't. There's one memory that keeps digging at the back of his mind, wanting to be set free. And Zuko wanted to set it free. But for the life of him, he could not remember–shit. There it is.
Blue eyes. Brown hair. Caramel skin slick with sweat. She was panting hard, chest heaving up and down. He remembered being really distracted by that.
"Zuko! Are you even listening?"
He blinked. Once. Boobs. Twice. "Huh?" He asked, confused. Then his golden eyes grew wide. "Oh, shit, yeah, sorry Katara, I just can't focus."
Katara's eyebrows furrowed before she looked down and her cheeks became hot. She grabbed the sheet and yanked it up higher to cover her naked breasts. "Zuko," she hissed. "We just had sex."
Sex. Zuko shook his head, trying to clear his thoughts of dirty (naked Katara) things. "What? Katara, I know. What are you getting at? I love you. We made love. Now you have to go back to Aang. I get it."
"Zuko, I don't have to."
He groaned and threw his hands into the air. "Oh, great! That's fantastic! So you want to go back to Aang! That makes it even better."
He felt Katara's hand touch his shoulder and he resisted the urge to shrug it off. "No, Zuko. It can stay this way. If you want it to. I…I love you too." She whispered.
"You do?"
"Of course I do, you big idiot."
Zuko laughed and pulled Katara close for a kiss. "I'll remember this forever, okay? This moment. You. Me. Forever."
She snuggled into his chest, her fingers intertwining with his. "Forever." She repeated. "I'd like that."
Old Zuko's cheeks warmed and he grinned to himself sheepishly. Ok, so he didn't remember it for a year or two. That's not his fault! He's old! At least he remembered the actual lovemaking. And that's not even the point. The point is this is it. His memory. His favorite memory in the entire memory or memories. He wanted to forget everything else that had happened before it or after it and just relish in the past.
She had already slipped through his fingers, he wasn't going to let the memory of her go, too.
"Forever," he said, his rough voice finding it hard to make a sound. "You. Me. Forever."
A/N: Ok, so this sap/old!zuko/shits and giggles. It's kind of all over the place and super short but I think I'm pretty happy with it. I don't know. Drop a review, pretty please? :) Happy Zutara Week!
