She comes to him the night before the reaping of the Third Quarter Quell. He's sober and full of hatred for the Capitol and there she is, a product of everything he despises. It's the first time that they kiss and his hands grip her just a little too tight, his teeth draw blood and his kisses leave marks on her soft skin.

When she leads him to his bedroom, he tears the wig from her head and uses his shirt to wipe the make-up from her face. And when they sink onto the bed together they claw and scratch and bruise and he hurts her more than once but she only pulls him closer. It is only much later, when everything is quiet and the night is at its darkest, that he holds her tenderly, repeatedly mumbling "I'm sorry" like a mantra, while her tears soak his hair and they both wish tomorrow would never come.
