Boomerang

"The others kids are mean to me… They laugh at me and call me stupid names… And they're not even good mean names!" The young boy huffed before burying his head further into his lap. "It's not fair. Why couldn't I be a bender like Kya or Tenzin?"

Though Sokka couldn't see his face, he could hear Bumi's muffled sobs — his small shoulders lightly shaking with each breath.

Sokka sighed. This was the one thing he'd never wanted to see happen to his nephew; this was the one thing he knew would eventually happen to his nephew.

"Bumi," Sokka soothed, lifting the small boy's head out from his lap. Bumi looked up, his small features marred by the tears that were still falling.

Sokka smiled at him, wiping the tears from his eyes. "I know what it's like little man, I know that sometimes its sad when everyone around you is a powerful bender, and you think that all you can do is sit back and do nothing…"

Bumi sniffled, his eyes welling up as the tears threatened to fall once more.

"… but just because you can't bend, doesn't make you, me, or any other nonbender any less useful than them."

Bumi leaned against his chest, "Really uncle?"

Sokka chuckled, "Really, little man. In fact, let me tell about the time I once bested a man who could bend fire with his mind using my trusty boomerang."
