Chapter 7

It's been alost a year since i updated i'm so sorry it took so long to update and i just want to let everyone know i'm not giving up on the story. So here's a new chpter for you all please read and review :)

Nami stirred, the layers of sleep began to disintegrate. She mentally groaned; her body ached all over. It was true then the fight with Arlong did occurs last night. You didn't get pulled and cramped muscles from a nightmare. What had happened to her after she passed out? Who had won the battle? Kid surely? What had happened to him? And where was she now?

She snuggled deeper into the bed, it was that right temperature that made you never want to leave and smelt intoxicating. But the pillow was a bit hard for her liking. Nami fluttered her eyes open then they almost popped out of their sockets. She was lying on Eustass Kid's chest and damn was it a pretty sight. Kid never wore a shirt except for school but Nami was getting an up close view. She wondered how long it had taken to get such muscle definition. If she remembered correctly he was this defined when they first meet at Sabody Archipelo Carnival two years ago, not that she was complaining, the after 3D2Y version was a lot nicer to look at.

The long jagged scar and mechanical arm didn't put her off either, it gave Kid a rugged look. Nami didn't need a pretty boy although she liked her men to be handsome she didn't want someone hogging the bathroom constantly just to get their hair right. Speaking of hair this was the first time she'd seen Kid's blood red hair down and flat against his face.

Nami felt the heat rise up from her body across her neck to her cheeks. He looked mature; it was a nice look for him.

"Don't you know that it's rude to stare"

Nami lowered her head; letting her orange locks fall in front her shadowed eyes. Her fist balled, arm trembling with adrenaline as the heat on her face exploded. He'd been watching her all this time. The baka!

Kid's eyes expanded as her small but mighty fist collided into his nose. Pain flared as his nerves burned with the information that he'd been hit. It took a while for his brain to process it. He had been punched. That hadn't happened in a long time and by a girl none the less. His hand moved towards his nose, long fingers pinched the brim preventing more warm liquid from oozing out. She'd given him a noise bleed. The one thing he hoped for was that she hadn't broken it due to his nose being one of his unique and striking features. The next time he got into a fight Kid didn't want the opponent to think he was less scary due to his nose or they could think that he was no longer untouchable or going soft that someone had been able to damage his face. Now that wasn't good.

"Sorry" the word stopped him in his tracks.

The rage fizzled away. He looked down at Nami; her head bowed. He watched her lip tremble and quiver. One of her hands was rubbing the bandaged arm. She'd punched him with that arm so it must have hurt herself as well.

Her sadness made Kid want to protect her, console her whilst running his long fingers through her ginger hair. Least that's what he thought it was wanting to protect someone else was a relatively new feeling for him. What was with him lately if he wasn't in Nami's company he was thinking about her. He craved her. And in such close contact Kid didn't think he could hold back his primal instinct to make her his. The animal within had already clawed its way out at the beach, he was lucky that Law had stepped in or right now he'd be answering to Straw Hat which didn't sound appealing.

Kids hand reached out and was placed it on top of Nami's head. He ruffled her fiery locks as a sign that he forgave her. But one thing to consider was did Nami have the potential for armored Haki she certainly hit like she had it but he's never seen her use it in a fight. Maybe she already had the natural ability for it and just needed some fine tuning to hone that ability. Then Kid wouldn't have to worry about her during battle not that he should be thinking about her in the first place but who was he kidding she was like the sun always there even if he couldn't see her plaguing his thoughts. When did it all become so complicated!?

Kid got out of bed abruptly her smell was intoxicating but with her lack of clothes Nami was becoming a bit too enticing for her own good. Why couldn't have Law have taken her into his own beach he was probably off smiling somewhere at the predicament Kid was in the annoying bastard. Why didn't this happen to any other of the supernovas? It was just him it wasn't like his resolve to become the crime boss of the New World was weak more likely it was stronger than most who liked to reside in the Grand Line or 'paradise' as they called it. He hated wusses like that but that was getting off topic again.

He recovered a bottle of water from the fridge and gulped it down, in one go, the only other thing in there was sake but it was a bit early to be drinking if he didn't have company that wouldn't be a problem but normally he'd still be asleep like a dead person the fact that she had been so close to him all night had made it very hard to slip into unconsciousness. His brain had refused to let him sleep. Images plagued his mind all night of how he could touch her but Kid didn't know how much of a deep sleeper she was and he wanted to win her trust. Taking advantage of her was the exact opposite.

Kid grabbed the bandages of the kitchen counter; Law had told him to replace the bandages every so often. So how was he supposed to do this? This was another reason that Law should have taken Nami, Law was a doctor Kid wasn't, he didn't even know how to change bandages and he wasn't bringing his gangs doctor in the situation is awkward enough without having to explain it to someone plus his crew was very rowdy and scary looking (hand picked that way) so he didn't want to scare Nami anymore than he already had. Why is everything so frustrating?!

"Do you want me to put them on?" She asked

Kid had forgotten he was standing there glaring at a roll of bandages. Well this was embarrassing. His cheeks went red a stark contrast from his Snow White skin. He handed over the bandages to her small dainty hand. And watched her work. Replacing the old bandages with fresh clean ones.

"I used to be the doctor in our crew before we got Chopper I was the only one with any medical experience" she stated.

Was that an attempt to make him feel better? She had medical experience that's why she knew how to put the bandages on. No he was sure they were like plasters relatively easy to out on. That didn't make him feel any better what so ever. But when a sweet smile graced her lips I made him feel slightly better. How did she have that affect on him?

"Erm can I ask you something?" She said cautiously

Was he that scary that she had to ask if she could ask a question but she was already asking a question so that didn't really make sense or she was just being polite. Kid nodded.

" after I feel unconscious last night what happened?" A mixture of curiously and worry flare in her eyes.

"I'll tell you only if you tell me why that fish bastard targeted you in the first place"

Time to get some answers.

Kid listened carefully as Nami explained the events of her early childhood. How she was adopted by a marine called Bell-mere along with her adopted sister Nojiko. Then Arlong (the fishy bastard) came and forced everyone to pay a fine for living. If they couldn't they died. Arlong had killed Bell-mere in front of Nami and Nojiko, then took Nami to Arlong Park due to her map and navigation skills. She became a crew member for 10 years in order to buy her village off Arlong but he and a bribed marine double crossed her and took all of her money. It was then when Luffy came to the village after she had robbed him of their riches on the floating sea restaurant that Sanji-kun worked on. Luffy had thought and defeated Arlong for her, shouting out that she was his nakama even after she robbed them and deserted them during a fight. Then she officially became a Straw Hat.

"So where your tattoo is now is originally where the Arlong tattoo was?" Kid asked.

"Yes I left his crew and I didn't want to be reminded of his existence or that part of the past. I still have the scar under my tattoo, reminding me. I was even afraid of going to Fish Man island. Even though its a tourist destination I was still afraid that an Arlong follower would hunt me down; which they did but it was Luffy they were after. Hatchan was also one of Arlong's gang members we ended up saving him at Sabody Archipelo Carnival. It was there I learned why they became a criminal organization to beat the racism towards fish men. Jimbe even told me Arlong's past and apologized for my suffering. That's the story of mine and Arlong's past now tell me what happened" Nami stated.

Kid took a deep breath "After you passed out I woke up. That fish bastard played a dirty trick pulling me into the ocean so I sent him flying and broke his weird nose. Then I took you to Law, your arm was still bleeding. He patched you up and left you in my care. That's all there is to it".

Kid left out the part that he was mainly angry at the fish bastard because he had hurt her. He could never tell Nami that.

"Thanks for saving me"

He felt something soft press against his cheek. His body froze. Kid looked up at Nami. She wasn't looking at him; redness coloured her cheeks again.

She couldn't look at him. He'd saved her life; although she was hoping that he'd saved her because he wanted to protect her. Fat chance of that. He was a pirate after all so pride came before everything else. She needed to get out of there and quickly.

"I'm going back to my beach hut, my nakama might be wondering where I am" she stated.

Nami quickly created distance between them and frantically opened and closed the beach huts door. She leaned against the door; her hand covered her mouth. What had she just done? She'd kissed Kid's cheek. What the hell was wrong with her? He was an enemy, he may have saved her life but he'd always be an enemy. She couldn't have an relationship with him. Not that he would want one. The crew and Luffy's dreams came first she'd known that when she became Luffy's nakama. Luffy would probably be ok if they had a relationship but would that mean that she was ultimately betraying him. What if a fight came up which it would in the future. Could she choose between them? To hell with that she wanted happiness. The future could always change and there was no point fretting over something that wouldn't happen for a while.

Nami took a deep breath and knocked on the beach hut. Kid answered, shock registered on his face. She'd come back.

"What are you doing tonight?" she asked the words barely audible.

His brow furrowed, what was she up to? "nothing" he replied.

"There's a bar opposite the floating bike rent shop, its not a big place and its in the district in between to the roller coaster and the shopping mall. If you want to come I'll be there at 8 o'clock tonight, if not I understand"

Nami didn't wait for a reply and took off down the beach. It was a slim chance but she hoped he would come. A smile graced her lips.
