"Oh don't you dare look back, just keep your eyes on me. I said you're holding back, she said, shut up and dance with me! This woman is my destiny, she said ou, ou, ou - shut up and dance with me!"
"Ou, ou, ou - shut up and dance with me!"
The song ended and the room applauded Kurt, Blaine, Nick and Jeff who reworked the song for four people quite well. "Good work guys!" Wes began. "Definitely a contender for the dance setlist." He wrote it down on a paper and then continued, "That'll do it for today, same time tomorrow everyone."
Wes banged his gavel once, signaling the official end of rehearsal. Blaine turned to some of the Warblers. "Some of us were thinking of eating dinner off campus tonight, you guys wanna come?"
"Sorry, I'm gonna have to decline." Wes said. "Dinner with Leah's parents tonight."
"I'm gonna bow out too." David began. "I really need to start reading A Clockwork Orange."
"You haven't started yet?" Mercedes asked. "Boy, get going!"
"Nick, Jeff?" Kurt asked.
Both boys nodded. "Sure, we'll go." Jeff said.
"Finn and I are gonna pass." Puck said. "Heading to the gym again!" Rachel rolled her eyes.
"Where were you thinking of going?" Nick asked.
"We figured somewhere within walking distance." Kurt said. "None of our cars are here."
David waved his hand in the air. "You don't have to walk, someone can drive my car."
"Yeah," Jeff began. "and Nick and I can drive."
"Perfect!" Kurt said, stepping closer to Nick and Jeff so only they could hear, "I hear there's a new Breadstix that opened not too far from here. And what's a better restaurant for a little romance?" He glanced at Mercedes and Sam.
Nick and Jeff glanced briefly at each other then back at Kurt. "We hear you loud and clear." Jeff said. "Have them sit next to each other at dinner."
"Wait, what?" Kurt asked. "That's your big plan? Having them sit next to each other?"
"Well, it's not like we had a lot of time to plan." Nick responded. "Besides, this is gonna work."
"They sit next to each other all the time."
"Kurt, trust us. Make sure they sit next to each other at dinner, and make sure that they sit across from Jeff and I."
"But, what - "
"Trust us!" Stepping around Kurt, Jeff continued, "Let's go, I'm starving!"
Stepping inside Breadstix, Nick turned to Blaine. "This was a good choice. The Warblers haven't been here collectively yet, so we haven't been kicked out."
"How many restaurants have you guys been kicked out of?" Santana asked.
"Four restaurants. And we've been kicked out of the Gap, but that's a different story entirely."
Kurt snickered while Blaine blushed. "Okay! No one wants to hear that story."
"What did you do at the Gap?" Brittany asked.
"Nothing! Let's not worry about that!" A hostess appeared then, for which Blaine was grateful.
"Hello! How many do we have here?" She asked.
"Thirteen." Kurt answered. "If that's possible?"
The hostess smiled and nodded. "Absolutely, we have a large table in the back. Follow me!"
Following the hostess, Kurt glanced over his shoulder at the girls. He explained Nick and Jeff's plan to Blaine, Tina, Rachel, and Quinn in the car, and texted Santana so she could explain it to Brittany. Walking into the restaurant Kurt also quickly explained to Mike and Artie what was going on, so the only ones left in the dark were Mercedes and Sam.
Artie took a seat at one end of the table. On his left, Santana and Brittany took the next two seats. Kurt and Blaine quickly took the two end seats, so the two in the middle were still remaining. On the opposite side of the table Mike and Tina took two end seats, followed by Nick and Jeff in the middle, and Rachel and Quinn at the end. That left Mercedes and Sam, who took the remaining two seats between Brittany and Kurt.
"So I'll ask the question I think everyone wants to ask." Brittany said. Kurt's eyes widened; he hoped she wasn't going to ruin the plan...
"Nick, Jeff - how do your uniforms stay so clean? I mean, you wear them everyday. And how do you both still smell so nice?"
Kurt sighed in relief. He honestly should have known Brittany wouldn't ask a straightforward question, since Santana probably warned her not to.
Nick and Jeff both smiled politely at Brittany before Jeff replied, "We each have more than one uniform, so we don't have to wear the same one everyday."
Brittany nodded. "Oh, that makes sense."
"Hello!" A young girl stood before the group. "My name is Kate, and I'll be your waitress tonight. Can I get everyone started with drinks?"
"Why don't we start with Artie and go around." Blaine said.
"Yeah," Artie began. "I'll just have a water." Kate didn't respond, in fact she wasn't even looking at Artie. Her attention seemed to be focused on Nick, but Nick didn't seem to notice.
"I'm sorry." Kate said, shaking her head and returning her attention to Artie. "You said a water?"
"Yeah, thank you." Kate continued taking drink orders, pausing when she got to Nick.
"And for you?"
"I'll have a pepsi, thanks." Kate smiled at him and Nick smiled back, Dalton charm showing. She took the last few drink orders before heading back to the kitchen.
Once she was out of sight Jeff turned to Nick. "Always such a gentleman, Nick."
"What are you talking about?"
"Oh, please." Santana said. "Kate clearly has the hots for you. She couldn't have made it any more obvious."
Nick shrugged. "I didn't notice anything."
"Probably because he wasn't trying to notice anything." Kurt added.
Jeff threw an arm around Nick's neck. "And that's one of the reasons why I love him."
"Well have no fear." Santana continued. "If she doesn't back off I'll be more than happy to go all Lima Heights on her."
"She seems harmless." Blaine said.
"Speak of the devil..." Quinn nodded to her left, and sure enough Kate was headed their way with drinks.
Kate handed out everyone's drinks, taking what Kurt assumed was special care to lean over Nick as she gave him his. Jeff snorted, obviously finding it humorous, while Nick remained as polite as ever.
Kurt still wasn't sure what Nick and Jeff's plan was exactly regarding Mercedes and Sam, but he knew this wasn't a part of it. He glared at Kate - she was ruining the whole thing by distracting them. Everyone else at the table snickered at Kate, it was way too obvious what she was doing.
This continued all through dinner, and it only got more obvious. When Kate took their food orders, Kurt swore she saw her wink at Nick. When their food came out, she giggled and complimented his eyes. It was clear that Jeff was finding it less and less humorous and Nick was becoming increasingly uncomfortable.
Finally, she came with the check, reaching over Nick again to place it on the table. When she reached back, she placed her hand on his shoulder. "Is there anything else I can get you?"
Santana rolled her eyes. "Hey! I think you need to take your hand off of him."
Kate didn't look fazed, but slowly removed her hand anyways. "I'm sorry, are you with him?"
"No, but I can tell you that he's not interested sweetie."
"Well he hasn't been exactly rejecting my advances." Kurt and Blaine looked at each other, and everyone else looked surprised as well. Frankly, Kurt couldn't believe their waitress, who was supposed to be doing a job, was acting like this.
Santana continued, "He's not interested."
Kate crossed her arms. "Then why hasn't he said so?"
"He hasn't said anything because he's too polite." Everyone turned towards Jeff when he spoke. "He doesn't want to hurt your feelings. And while we're at it, he's not single."
Nick turned to Kate. "I'm sorry, but he's right. I'm with someone."
"Oh yeah? Who?"
Jeff stood up, clearly getting more angry. "Not that it's any of your business but he's with me."
Kate looked surprised, like she didn't believe Jeff. She stuttered, clearly trying to figure out a response.
Jeff rolled his eyes and took his seat, turning to Nick. Without another word, Jeff placed a hand on the back of Nick's head and pulled him in for a kiss, right in front of Kate.
Her jaw dropped immediately, while everyone else at the table cheered the two on. Without another word Kate stormed off.
"Don't expect a tip!" Santana yelled after her.
Once back at Dalton, Kurt caught up with Jeff and Nick. "That was completely uneventful."
"Hey, it's not our fault that Kate ruined it." Jeff replied.
"Calm down." Nick said to Jeff. "You know she doesn't stand a chance."
Jeff took a deep breath. "I know. Look Kurt, we're sorry. We'll keep working on it. But right now we have some other business to take care of." He grabbed Nick's hand and pulled him towards their room without another word.
Kurt fondly rolled his eyes and turned around, only to come face to face with Wes. "Oh, hey Wes. How was dinner with parents?"
Wes shrugged. "Typical. Everyone's always impressed with the Dalton charm. Anyways, I need your help - actually, I need all of New Direction's help."
Kurt rose an eyebrow. "With what?"
Wes leaned in and whispered, "I wanna prank Nick and Jeff back."
Kurt gasped. "Do you really think that's a good idea?"
"What's a good idea?" Blaine asked, appearing next to Kurt.
"Wes wants to prank Jeff and Nick."
Blaine furrowed his brows. "That is not a good idea, Wes."
"Come on! The reason no one ever pranks them is because they're too good for only one person to get. With fourteen of us it just may be possible!"
"You've never tried this with any of the other Warblers?"
"They refuse to get involved, they're afraid of the... consequences."
"Because they're smart."
"Kurt, please! You can blame the whole thing on me so they won't take their revenge out on anyone else!"
Blaine and Kurt shared a look before turning back to Wes. "You have to ask the others."
"I don't think that's a good idea, dude." Puck said to Wes.
"Yeah." Mike added. "I mean, from what we've heard they're the prank masters."
"This whole thing just doesn't seem like it will end well." Rachel said.
"Okay, hear me out." Wes began. "Nick and Jeff have pranked every Warbler, more than once. It's time for a little sweet revenge!"
"Wes, if we prank them they're gonna prank us all back twice as hard." Blaine replied.
"I said I'd take the blame, I just need a little bit of help setting up."
"What do you even have in mind?" Finn asked.
"Glad you asked." Wes said. Pulling out a bag from behind a couch, he reached in and revealed a bottle of honey, then tossed it to Kurt.
"Kurt, this is where you come in. Tonight after they're asleep, you're gonna sneak in their room and pour that into their shampoo bottle." Kurt looked befuddled but Wes continued, now pulling out a box of macaroni and cheese. "They have bottles of orange juice in their mini fridge. We take the cheese powder from this, mix it with some water, and stick a couple of bottles of it in their fridge. Blaine, you can handle that." He then tossed the box of macaroni to Blaine.
"At this point, they should come running out of their room looking for me." Wes then revealed a stack of papers, all with various photos of Nicolas Cage on them. He gave a few to each person then explained, "Jeff hates Nicolas Cage. He thinks he's creepy. So we can tape these to the walls and hang them from the ceiling."
Mercedes shuddered at the photo she was holding then said, "Don't you think this is a little much? All they did was steal your gavel."
Wes shook his head. "That is not the first time they've pranked me." He then pulled out a roll of plastic wrap and tape. "And the finale - when they go running down the hall looking for me, you guys will distract them while I tape this in their doorway. I'll run in their room and at least one of them will run right into it."
Finishing, Wes wiggled his eyebrows. "So? What do you think?"
There was silence for a moment before Blaine replied, "I think you're nuts."
"I think you have a death wish." Sam added.
Wes rolled his eyes. "Just trust me! This is gonna be awesome! Is everyone in or what?"
The group looked at each other, but everyone eventually nodded. "Only," Kurt began. "to see your downfall."
"Excellent." Wes said. "Meet back here at midnight."
A little after midnight, Kurt and Blaine returned to the commons area to find Wes patiently waiting. He then handed Kurt the bottle of honey and Blaine two bottles of the fake orange juice, along with a mini flashlight for both of them.
"Alright, here you go. Be as quiet as possible and they shouldn't wake up."
"Remind me again why you can't handle this part?" Kurt asked.
"Because, I'm not as stealthy as you and you know it. You're both pretty light on your feet."
Kurt sighed but had to agree. When he was with the Warblers he remembered Wes struggling with some of the dancing, simply because he couldn't move very lightly. "Let's just get this done."
Kurt once again grabbed the key from the top of the doorframe, and as quietly as he could, he unlocked the door and slowly pushed it open. Wes had turned off the hall light so no extra light would risk waking Nick and Jeff up. Kurt aimed his flashlight at the ground then clicked it on, and he quickly located the bathroom and proceeded with his part of the prank.
Kurt grabbed the bottle of shampoo and twisted the lid off, then slowly poured as much honey in as he could. Meanwhile, Blaine crawled as quietly as he could to the mini fridge and cracked the door open as little as possible, so he was able to slip the two bottles in. Slowly, both boys made their way back to the door and slipped out.
Wes was waiting eagerly in the hallway. "It's done?" He whispered.
Blaine nodded. "Your dirty work is completed. Can we go to bed now?"
"Yes. Their alarm goes off at seven-thirty, so remember to be out here and in your places by seven-fifteen."
"Yes sir." Kurt mock-saluted him. "Goodnight."
Heading back to their room, Blaine asked Kurt, "You think all of this is going to work?"
"I think Wes may die tomorrow."
Dressed in full uniform and arms crossed, Wes grinned when everyone finished hanging and taping the last few photos of Nicolas Cage. "Excellent. Jeff is gonna lose it."
He glanced at his watch. "It's just about seven-thirty, so you guys can take your places at the end of the hall. I'll be here with the plastic wrap."
Before they left Mercedes said, "We'll be praying for you!"
A few minutes later, Wes heard Nick and Jeff's alarm going off in their room. "Let the show begin."
Jeff slammed his hand down on the alarm clock, effectively snoozing it. He rubbed his eyes and let them adjust to the light before lightly shaking the still-sleeping boy next to him. "Time to wake up, Nick."
Face still stuffed in a pillow, the only response Jeff got was a muffled, "G'away."
Jeff ran a hand through Nick's hair, causing him to turn his head and peel his eyes open. "It's too early."
"You say that every morning."
Nick sighed, but smiled at his boyfriend and leaned in to kiss him. "You can shower first, I just need like three more minutes." He closed his eyes again without another thought, burying himself back into the blankets.
Jeff shook his head but got up. Entering their bathroom he flicked the light on and pulled the shower curtain to the side, ready to turn the shower on. However, their shampoo bottle caught his eye - it wasn't in it's usual spot on the shelf, instead it was sitting on the edge of the tub. Upon further inspection he noticed that the lid seemed to be loose as well.
He picked up the bottle and loosened the lid the rest of the way, removed it and peered into the bottle. Something seemed off, it was more... gold colored than he remembered. Sniffing it, he caught a strong whiff that was different from the typical smell and knew immediately what it was.
"Amateur." Jeff exited the bathroom. "Nick, look at this."
Sitting up, Nick glanced at the shampoo bottle then at Jeff. "Our shampoo? What of it?"
"Someone tried to prank us. There's honey in it. I probably wouldn't have noticed but whoever it was didn't tighten the lid and left it sitting on the edge of the tub."
Nick scoffed. "Rookie mistake." Getting out of bed, he walked over to the mini fridge and pulled out a bottle of orange juice. "Who do you think it was?"
"Probably Wes." Nick nodded, and was about to take a sip of his drink before he caught a smell of it. He scrunched his nose, then handed it to Jeff.
"Smell that." Jeff took the bottle and smelled the drink, scrunching his nose as well.
"Either that's really bad, or not orange juice." He smelled it again. "It smells like... macaroni and cheese."
Realization hit both boys at the same time, as the prank was familiar to them - they knew what it was. Nick shook his head. "Wes is a moron."
Taking the evidence with them, they both left the room in search of Wes. Turning the corner both boys stopped in their tracks when they came face to face with what had to have been at least fifty pictures of Nicolas Cage taped to the walls and hanging from the ceiling.
"What the hell?" Jeff exclaimed, covering his eyes. "Who would do this?!"
Kurt turned the corner then, along with most of New Direction's casually chatting behind him. In an overly happy tone Kurt said, "Nick, Jeff! Morning!"
"Nice try, Kurt." Nick began. "We know what Wes tried to do." He held up the shampoo and drink.
"So you didn't fall for it?" Blaine asked.
"Of course not." Jeff said, eyes still covered. "I mean, the shampoo lid wasn't even put back on all the way and it was put back in the wrong spot."
"Plus, I smelled the cheese powder before I took a sip of the drink."
"Kurt!" Wes exclaimed, stomping towards the group. "You didn't put the shampoo back in the right spot? And you left the lid loose? Amateur!"
Kurt's jaw dropped. "Pardon me, it was dark! That mini flashlight did nothing!"
"Not surprising that you couldn't do it on your own." Nick said to Wes. He then glanced at the roll of plastic wrap and tape in his hand. "And plastic wrap in the doorway? Please, Wes. You know we've played that one a hundred times."
Kurt sighed. "We're sorry guys, we all debated even getting involved but we figured this whole thing was probably going to backfire somehow."
Jeff finally uncovered his eyes and replied, "Oh don't worry Kurt, we're not mad. There's nothing wrong with a little pranking." He then turned to Wes. "It's just better when it works."
"Damn!" Wes exclaimed. "I'll get you two someday!"
Jeff rolled his eyes and Nick responded, "Not before we get you back."
Wes's eyes widened. "Wait, what?"
Nick and Jeff headed back towards their room but not before Jeff said, "I'd watch your back if I were you!"
Their door slammed shut and Wes turned to face New Directions. "What do I do?"
Kurt shrugged then patted him on the shoulder. "Watch your back!"
There's chapter six! I hope you all enjoyed it, this is probably my favorite one so far.
I promise, the next chapter will address the Mercedes/Sam thing.
Future chapters will also include more classes, such as gym. The dance everyone is singing at will also happen in a chapter, but I have a lot more that's going to happen prior to that.
Let me know if there's anything specific you all would like to see! And again, I cannot thank everyone enough for continuing to patiently wait for updates and stick with this story.
Until next time! Thank you!
