Chapter 30: Christmas Day

Two years later

Light rolled onto his side, snuggling against the warmth next to him. He was lying in bed, still half-asleep. When he felt a hand sliding down his back and cupping his ass, Light barely opened his eyes. L's face was only a few inches away from his own. Underneath the blankets, they were both still naked from last night's activities.

"L, what time is it?" he asked sleepily.

"It is currently 10:47."

Shit. Light quickly sat up. He had slept in. Now they were going to be late.

Light scooted to the edge of the bed, about to stand. Then L suddenly grabbed his arm and yanked him back. Light fell backwards onto the bed and glared up at pale wild-haired man. He could see the lust in L's black eyes. Light knew what the detective wanted, but they didn't have time.

"L, we're going to be late!" Light tried to sit up again, but L quickly straddled him, pushing him back onto the bed.

"We have enough time." L leaned over him.

"No, we don't," Light argued. "The party starts at eleven!"

"Light-kun's family won't mind if we are a few minutes late."

"Well, I mind-!"

L interrupted him with a kiss, swallowing Light's muffled protests. The kiss deepened as L ravaged his mouth, sucking on his tongue. Their bodies slid against each other and Light felt himself becoming hard, suddenly very aware of their nakedness. His resolve was crumbling fast, desire clouding his thoughts. Light tightly gripped L's shoulders, torn between shoving the man away and pulling him closer. When L rolled his hips against his, Light threw his head back and gasped as a jolt of pleasure coursed through him. L smirked. The smug bastard knew he won.

He kissed a sensitive area on Light's neck, nipping and sucking greedily. Light bit his bottom lip to stop himself from gasping again. It wasn't fair. After years of practice, L knew every inch of Light's body. Every sensitive spot. Every erogenous zone. L knew exactly what Light wanted and how he wanted it. Since moving in together, they have had sex almost every day in practically every room of L's house. And no matter what, L always wanted more.

Pushing the blankets aside, L kissed down Light's chest and down his abdomen, leaving a trail of littles marks. When L reached Light's throbbing member, he smirked at the look of anticipation on Light's face, then kissed the outline of his hip. Light huffed in frustration. The bastard was toying with him! L was dragging this out on purpose because now he knew Light wanted it. Light was about to yell at him, but then L suddenly grabbed Light's right leg and held it the side, spreading him open.

Light's eyes widened in surprise when L kissed the scar on his right thigh. Light had completely healed from the gunshot wound, but he still had the scar. Usually he tried to hide the scar and ignore it, yet L never shied away from it. Now L was actually kissing his scar. All of Light's anger immediately dissipated. At moments like these, he was reminded of just how much L truly loved him.

Light blinked the moisture from his eyes, refusing to become overemotional.

"Just fuck me already," he ordered.

L looked amused. "As you wish, Light-kun."

The detective didn't need to be told twice. L positioned himself over Light and slowly breached his lover's entrance. Light bit back a whimper. He was still slick from last night, and a bit sore. L entered him easily, penetrating deep. Light shuddered underneath him, feeling stretched wide open and exquisitely filled. It hurt, but it was a sweet pain. A pain that promised pleasure. L eased back and thrusted inside again, hitting Light's prostate with practiced precision. Light cried out as a burst of pleasure shot though him. God, L has gotten so fucking good at this.

L quickened his pace, slamming into Light over and over, hitting the right spot every time. Light panted and shook as wave after wave of pleasure coursed through him. He loved the feeling of L ramming inside him, taking him. Light hooked his legs around L, moving in time with each thrust. Light could feel his orgasm building fast. He couldn't think anymore. The only thing that mattered was L and the wonderful things he was doing to him.

Light cried out when he finally climaxed. He arched his back as his whole body trembled. L leaned down and kissed him before slamming into him one last time. Light could feel L cumming inside of him as they kissed deeply. After L broke from the kiss, he pulled out of Light and laid beside him.

For a moment, Light laid still, panting, trying to catch his breath. Then he glanced at the alarm clock on the nightstand. It was past eleven now…

Light shot up and kicked L out of bed. "Dammit, L! We're late! It's all your fault!"

L crashed onto the floor while Light angrily stormed away.

After Light ran into the bathroom, L heard the shower turn on. While Light was busy taking a shower, L yanked on some pants and perched on a chair at the desk in their shared bedroom. L turned on his laptop and checked his email. The FBI had sent a letter, thanking L for his involvement in a recent case. They should really be thanking Light though. He was the one who caught the killer, not L. In these past two years, Light has become a very successful detective. It was probably time to give Light his own alias. L didn't want to keep accepting credit for all of his hard work.

Soon, L heard the shower facet turn off. Then Light entered the bedroom, wearing a dark red dress-shirt and slacks. He was still drying his hair with a towel.

"Come on, L. Get dressed." He tossed the towel aside and quickly combed his hair.

L grabbed a white shirt off the floor, then Light ripped the dirty shirt away from him.

"You aren't wearing this! I'll pick something out for you." Light rushed to the closet and rummaged through L's clothes.

L watched him with a sigh. "I can dress myself, Light-kun."

"Hmph. If you could, you'd wear the same ugly shirt and pants for the rest of your life."

"What's wrong with that?"

"We're going to a party!" Light threw a blue button-down shirt at him. "You're supposed to dress nice."

L gave him an annoyed look, but changed into the blue shirt anyway. Light was so picky with clothes. L would never understand.

"Put these on too." Light tossed a pair of black slacks at him.

After L grudgingly changed into the Light-approved pants, Light approached him with a tie.

"I hate ties," L complained.

"Too bad." Light wrapped the tie around L's neck and fastened it tightly.

While Light adjusted the tie, L rasped, "You're choking me."

"Oh, quit whining." Light tightened the tie just to spite him.

L made a choking sound, then quickly yanked on the tie, loosening it. Meanwhile Light was already rushing out of the bedroom toward the stairs.

"Come on, L. Hurry up!" Light called out.

L grumbled under his breath, "Light-kun is like a nagging wife."

"What did you just say?!" Light yelled from the staircase.

"Nothing, Light-kun!" L hurried out of the room and followed Light downstairs.

Whenever Light acted like a nagging wife, it was best to play along and follow instructions like a good husband. Either that or face Light's wrath. And L didn't like Light's wrath. Although this situation could've been avoided if L hadn't pulled Light back into bed this morning. L remembered Light's panting flushed face with a smirk. It was worth it. Light could nag him all he wanted. L had no regrets.

Standing by the front door, Light pulled on his shoes, then glanced at L. "What are you smirking about?"

"I enjoyed Light-kun's company this morning."

Light blushed slightly. "Whatever. Let's go."

They both pulled on their winter jackets, then L walked toward the door.

Light grabbed his arm, stopping him. "Put on some shoes first."

L pouted. "I hate shoes."

"I don't care. It's freezing outside! You're wearing shoes," Light nagged.

With an exasperated sigh, L grabbed a pair of shoes off the floor.

"Not those. Wear your good shoes."

After L put on the so-called "good" shoes, he left the house with Light. Outside, the ground was covered with snow. Every time L exhaled, he could see his breath. Crossing his arms, Light shivered as he rushed to the car. He sat in the driver's seat while L perched in the seat next to him. L never drove. Thankfully, Light actually enjoyed driving.

Light started the engine and turned the heat on at full blast. Then he drove down the long driveway and through the steel gate. It was a short trip to Light's parent's house. They lived less than a mile away. Soon, Light parked in front of his parent's house, then they walked to the front door. The door swung open as soon as Light knocked.

"Come in, boys!" Light's mother welcomed them inside.

L and Light stepped into the warm house, and took off their coats.

"Sorry for being late, Mom," Light apologized.

"Oh, it's fine. I'm so glad you're here." She hugged her son. Then she pulled L into a hug, too, and happily told him. "L, I made a strawberry cheesecake just for you."

L's face brightened. "Where is it?"

Light sighed while his mother laughed.

"In the kitchen. Follow me." His mother led L away while Light headed into the living room.

Thanks to L, they were the last ones to arrive. The other guests were already here. In the living room, Light's father was sitting in a chair next to Watari, drinking tea and talking with the old English man. L's three successors were also here, much to Light's annoyance. He didn't understand why his mother insisted on inviting the three teenage geniuses. They always caused trouble, especially Mello. The blonde brat had anger issues. Despite his name, Mello was anything but…mellow.

As soon as Light entered the living room, Mello smirked viciously and approached him.

"You're late, Light." Mello sneered, speaking English so Light's family wouldn't understand. "Were you busy riding L's dick again?"

Light smirked back at him, replying in English. "How about you, Mello?" He pointedly stared at the red mark on the blonde's neck. "Look at that hickey. Have you been riding Matt again?"

Flustered, Mello turned red while slapping a hand over the hickey, hiding the mark. "It's not like that, asshole!"

Watari and Light's father both stopped talking and glanced over at the yelling. Then Matt hurried towards them and tried to calm his irate friend.

"Come on, Mello. We talked about this," Matt patted him on the shoulder. "No fighting today."

"Yeah, Mello." Light taunted him. "You heard your boyfriend. No fighting."

"He's not my-! Argh! I hate you!" Mello shouted in frustration. "I hate you even more than I hate Near!"

"That is quite a feat." Near commented from his chair.

"Shut up, Near!" Mello yelled at the white-haired boy.

"Boys, behave yourselves or I'm taking you home," Watari raised his voice, giving them a stern warning.

Mello glared at Light before stomping away and sitting in a corner. Matt followed him, still trying to placate him. Meanwhile Light's father and Watari continued their conversation in Japanese. They were talking about a police investigation as usual. Light walked through the living room and peered into the kitchen. L was perched on a chair, eating a plate of cheesecake. Sitting next to him, Light's mother and Sayu were both talking to L and laughing. Those two constantly spoiled him.

Light smiled then returned to the living room. He sat down next to the Near, and they shared theories on the latest FBI case Light had solved. Out of the three successors, Near was the easiest one to talk to. Due to his lack of emotion, Near was always straightforward and business-like with Light. Also, the white-haired boy reminded him of L. That resemblance alone made it easier to tolerate the kid.

For almost thirty minutes, Light spoke with Near while Mello watched them, still sulking in a corner. It was obvious that he wanted to talk about the FBI case, too. Light sighed and glanced over at the pouting blonde. He didn't actually hate Mello. Light was only mean to the brat when he deserved it. Light tried to get along with all of the successors, mostly for L's sake.

"What do you think, Mello?" Light asked, including the blonde in the conversation.

Mello perked up and happily offered his opinion. The conversation continued for a while. Then Mello strolled toward Light and sat on the nearby couch, propping his feet up on a coffee table. Matt sat next to Mello and commented a few times as well. While Mello talked animatedly, the red-haired boy gave Light a grateful look. When it came to socializing, Matt was probably the smartest of the three.

Soon, it was time for lunch. Everyone sat down at the dinner table together and ate. L perched in the seat beside Light and had a piece of chocolate cake. Light's mother really did spoil him too much. How many different cakes did she make? Mello ate some of the chocolate cake, too, while everyone else ate real food.

After lunch, everyone gathered in the living room and started opening presents around the Christmas tree. Near received various toys like action figures and LEGOs, which he immediately began stacking on the floor. Matt received a portable video game, which he already started playing. And Mello was given a box of chocolates which the blonde happily ate while watching Matt play his game. All three successors were amazingly content at the moment. It was rare for them to sit in a room together and coexist peacefully.

Light leaned back in his seat, feeling relieved. Then L opened a present that he received from Sayu and Light's mom. L pulled out his gift while Light grimaced. It was a hideous Christmas sweater with blinking lights on it. L tilted his head to the side, examining the sweater, then he noticed the horrified look on Light's face.

With a smirk, L pulled on the offensive piece of clothing. "Do you like my sweater, Light-kun?"

"When we get home, I'm burning that," Light muttered in disgust.

L announced loudly, "Light-kun likes my sweater so much. He wants a matching one."

Light's mother cooed. "Oh, you'd look so cute in matching sweaters."

"Yeah, we should definitely get Light one!" Sayu agreed.

Light glared at L, his eye twitching slightly. Look at what you've done.

L smiled.

After everyone had opened their presents, Light sat on the couch with his mother and sister. Light talked to them while L entered the kitchen again to search for more cake. Instead of cake, he found Mr. Yagami sitting alone at the kitchen table with a large bottle of sake.

"L, we need to talk man to man." Mr. Yagami declared unexpectedly.

Gnawing on the edge of his thumb, L studied Light's father for a moment. It was rare for Mr. Yagami to speak to him. Usually, the man ignored L. This must be important.

L nodded. "All right, Mr. Yagami. What do we need to discuss?"

"Follow me. Let's talk in private." He stood and walked away with the bottle of sake.

L followed him into another room that had a small Japanese-style table on the floor. Mr. Yagami sat on the floor then opened the sake bottle and poured some of the alcohol into two cups.

"Sit down and have a drink," Mr. Yagami ordered.

"I don't drink." L crouched on the floor at the opposite side of the table.

"Well, today you do." Mr. Yagami slid a cup towards L. "Either we talk on my terms or not at all."

"Why do you insist on the alcohol?"

"Because we're talking man to man. You are capable of that, aren't you?" Mr. Yagami challenged him, then drank his entire cup of sake.

L glared at the stubborn man. Was this some kind of test? It was asinine. L should just walk away. Although…he may not get this chance again. This was the first time Mr. Yagami had asked to speak to him alone. Was Light's father finally beginning to accept him? If L could receive the man's approval, it would probably make Light happy…

L could do this for Light. Grabbing the cup of sake, L drank all of the alcohol in one gulp. The liquid burned as he swallowed it. L almost gagged. The alcohol tasted awful. He definitely preferred sweet sugary drinks.

"Good." Mr. Yagami nodded in approval, before pouring more sake into their cups. "I wanted to talk to you about my son."

"I figured as much."

Mr. Yagami tilted his head back, quickly downing the sake. Then he looked at L expectedly. With a sigh, L picked up his cup and downed his drink as well. The alcohol still tasted bad, but L was becoming accustomed to it.

"The living arrangement you have with my son… How long do you expect it to last?" Mr. Yagami poured them more drinks.

"I intend to spend the rest of life with Light-kun," L answered honestly.

Mr. Yagami downed his drink and waited until L did the same. After his third drink, L was starting to feel the effects of the alcohol. He was having difficulty maintaining his balance in his perched position.

Light's father poured them more drinks in silence. Then he surprised L by saying, "You should marry him already."

"What?" L's legs gave out as he flopped backwards, no longer in his premium sitting position. He could feel his reasoning ability drop by forty percent.

L stared at Mr. Yagami with wide black eyes. "You want me to marry Light?"

"I want you to take responsibility. My son's whole life revolves around you."

L frowned. "That is not true. Light-kun is working as a detective now, which is something he has always wanted to do."

"Yeah, and he's doing it using your name." Mr. Yagami grumbled, "You get all the credit."

"I am aware of that issue. Light-kun will be given his own alias shortly."

"Will he get his own paycheck, too?"

L raised an eyebrow. "Light-kun hasn't asked for one, and he hasn't needed it. I pay for everything."

"That isn't good enough, L," Mr. Yagami snapped before downing another cup of sake. "Drink up."

L angrily downed his cup of sake then slammed the empty cup on the table. "I am not taking advantage of Light if that is what you're implying."

"Then prove it." Mr. Yagami was pouring more sake again. "Marry Light and he'll have half of everything you own."

Mr. Yagami and L both drank another round of sake, then slammed their cups on the table.

L glared at him. "You only want me to marry your son for financial reasons?"

"I already know you make Light happy. I'm just looking out for my son's best interest. He should have the security of a marriage."

L gazed down at the table, swaying slightly. He felt warm and light-headed from all the sake. Maybe it was just the alcohol talking, but Mr. Yagami really made sense. Of course, L should marry Light. Light was his, and Light needed security. It made perfect sense.

L nodded. "Thank you for your support, Mr. Yagami. I will go marry Light now." He tried to stand, but flopped back onto the floor.

"Hold on. We aren't done negotiating yet." Mr. Yagami poured another drink for both them.

"Negotiating?" The room was spinning while L stared at the cup of sake. He didn't know how much more he could drink.

"When you marry Light, there will be no prenup. Everything you own is also Light's."

L nodded, feeling dizzy. "Yes, Mr. Yagami. No prenup."

They both drank more sake, then L leaned on the table, trying not to fall over.

"And you will keep Light out of danger. I swear if anyone kidnaps him again, I'll kill you," Mr. Yagami threatened.

"Yes, Mr. Yagami." L rested his head on the table. "Protect Light-kun. I will. I promise."

"Good." Mr. Yagami smirked as he poured them more drinks. "I feel like we're getting somewhere. Let's talk about your bank accounts. Light needs a good retirement plan."

"Yes, Mr. Yagami." L mumbled in his drunken stupor, "Light needs money, yes."

In the living room, Light was still talking to his mother and sister when he realized that L had been missing for quite a while. At first he thought L had left the room to talk to Watari about work. But then the old English man returned to the living room alone, and L still wasn't anywhere in sight. The three successors were still enjoying their Christmas presents and behaving themselves. The only other person missing was Light's father…

Light tensed anxiously. Oh, shit. What was his father up to? Light quickly stood and began searching for his father and L. The kitchen was empty and so was the dining room. Light opened the sliding door to another room, then his eyes widened in shock.

L was laying on the floor with his tie fastened around his head like a drunk Japanese businessman. Meanwhile Light's father was drinking sake and laughing heartily.

"Liiiiiiiiight-kuuuuuuun!" L flailed his arms, obviously intoxicated.

"Dad, what the hell did you do to him?!" Light snapped angrily.

"Nothing." His father leaned against the table, still laughing. "I just loosened him up a bit."

"You got him completely wasted!" Light kneeled next to L and helped him sit up. "Come on, L, we're going home."

Light pulled L up. The detective leaned heavily against him, wrapping his arms around him. "Light-kun is love."

"That's nice, L. We're leaving." Light led him towards the door while L stumbled beside him.

"Remember, L!" Light's father called out. "You have my blessing, but it must be on my terms!"

L tried to bow and almost fell over. "Yes, father."

Father? Light gave him a confused look, then yanked him out of the room. L was hanging off of him as they stumbled along. When they passed by the living room, everyone looked surprised.

"Oh, my! What happened?" Light's mother hurried towards them, looking worried.

"Ask Dad," Light grumbled as he led L to the front door.

Behind him, he could hear Mello and Matt laughing their asses off. "L's wasted! This is great!"

"I'll have a talk with your father." Light's mother opened the front door for them. "L should feel better after he sleeps it off."

"I hope so. Bye, Mom." Light pulled L outside and shut the door.

They staggered towards the car. L was still leaning heavily on him while Light struggled to keep them both standing. Light couldn't believe his father did this. And what the hell was L thinking? Why did he decide to get drunk all the sudden? L doesn't drink.

"Light-kun," L mumbled next to his ear.

"We're almost to the car."

"Light-kun, marry me."

"W-What?!" Light stared at him shock, losing his balance.

They both fell over, landing in the snow. Light was on his back with L resting on top of him. Letting out a long sigh, Light gazed up at the cloudy blue sky. Snowflakes were beginning to trickle down, falling all around them.

"L, don't joke about that."

L raised his head so he could stare directly at him. "I am being serious, Light-kun."

"You're drunk."

Black eyes bore into him. "I want to marry you."

Light could feel his heart flutter as he swallowed nervously. "Why?"

"Because I love you." L leaned down so their foreheads were touching. "And Light-kun already nags me like a wife anyway."

"No, I don't!" Light blushed furiously.

In response, L simply laughed and rested his face in the crook of Light's neck.

Gazing up at the sky, Light sighed again. "Propose to me when you're sober and I'll consider it."

L nodded slightly. "It's a deal, Light Lawliet."

"Lawliet?" Light complained, "Why do I have to change my name?"

"Because Light Lawliet sounds pretty."

Light laughed. "Drunken idiot."

The snowflakes continued to fall around them as they laid in the snow.

"I love you."

Light smiled. "I love you, too, L."

A/N: Now is that a happy ending or what? LOL

Well, that's the end of Wammy University. Thanks for reading and reviewing! I know it took me forever to finish this, but thanks for sticking with it!
