John, despite Sherlock's pompous remark that John would take the room upstairs, had not decided that he would, in fact, take the room upstairs. So, after Sherlock had got into a cab and Scotland Yard had cleared out, John figured he may as well go back to his own flat.
He was halfway to the door before he realised that he didn't have his cane. Of course he knew that his limp was psychosomatic and Sherlock had made his body realise that, made it able to walk without pain, without the limp. Sherlock Holmes, of all people, someone John didn't even know, had made him forget about the limp.
But Sherlock had run out and John wondered if he'd even hear from the detective again. He had his phone number, somehow, but still...
John was going to need that cane.
He crossed the room and grabbed the cane, turning to stride out. Just then, the beep of the GPS tracking rang through the silent flat. John hesitated before glancing at the screen of the netbook.
The phone was no longer in Baker Street.
John stared for a half second longer before slapping the netbook closed and running from the flat.
Maybe he didn't need the cane, after all.
If Sherlock was going to get into this much trouble on his own, John definitely wouldn't need the cane if he decided to move in with him.
But first- either Sherlock had the phone... which seemed unlikely... or the only other possible solution was that the cabbie had the phone. Which didn't make much sense...
... except it did. Cabs could take people away without ever being noticed, without being wondered about. They 'hunted in the middle of a crowd', as Sherlock had said. And Mrs Hudson has said the cabbie was persistent and the confrontation between Sherlock and the cabbie on the street...
Oh, God, Sherlock was right; they were all idiots! How had they not realised this?
He ran down the stairs and hailed the first cab he could, already on the phone with New Scotland Yard.
I randomly felt like working on this. Maybe because I've been re-watching Sherlock a lot. Sorry for the hiatus.
I do not own Sherlock.
