When I Look at You

Short Story

"Link?" Zelda looked over at Link who was walking next to her.

"Hmm?" He mumbled, opening his eyes to look at Zelda.

"Where are we going?" She asked.

He smiled at her. "Zel, like I told you before," He paused. He stopped walking a second and so did Zelda. Link grabbed her arm while he had the opportunity and pulled her closer to him and he put his head over her shoulder. "You'll just have to wait and see…" he whispered in her ear.

His warm breath on her skin sent chills down her back. She loved to be around him. He always seemed to liven her up, even on the darkest of all days. He was her knight in shining armor. Her not-so-much-of-a-Prince Charming.

The sun was setting in the east and the rays hit his face perfectly. He was beautiful in the sunset. Them walking side by side, to a place that was unknown to Zelda, hands just inches away from touching. Zelda so desperately wanted to just sit and stare at Link all day and have him hold her close.

"Zel?" Link waved in front of her face and started to walk once again.

Zelda snapped out of her trance and looked at him. "Oh sorry…. I was thinking…."

Link laughed and got behind her.

"Link…. What are you-?"

She was cut short when a pair of hands covered her eyes. "Is this really necessary?"

Link laughed once again and pushed her forward. "Just let me guide you to the place. You do trust me, right?"

Zelda paused and grabbed his hands, trying to pull them off her eyelids. "Of course I do, but the question is….." She grunted, giving up. "Do you trust me?"

"Depends." Link stated.

Zelda wanted to turn to face him and scowl for his answer. "What's that supposed to mean?"

"Uh…." Link said in thought. "It means that it depends on the situation and the place we are in, on if a trust you."

"Thanks…" Zelda retorted.

"Your welcome!" Link replied with a smile.

The two walked in silence for quite a while till Link finally stopped. He took his hands off her eyelids and stepped to her side once more.

Zelda opened her eyes and turned to Link in confusion. "The battlefield?"

Link smirked and looked in her eyes. "Just wait a second will ya?"

Zelda looked back across and saw that the sun was almost out of sight. She waited a few more minutes standing next to Link and realized how beautiful the battlefield looked when the sun was setting.

"Oh… Oh my…" She sighed. I really was a pretty sight.

Link looked away from Zelda and moved his hand to wrap around hers.

Zelda looked over to him lovingly. "Oh this is beautiful!" She cried, letting go of his hand and wrapped her arms around his neck, pulling him into a hug.

Link was taken aback by her sudden reaction. He slowly raised his hands and wrapped them around her.

Zelda slowly pulled away and looked in Link's deep blue, sapphire eyes. She blushed like mad. They had never been this close to each other before.

Link blushed a little and started to lean in closer. He was tired of hiding his feelings. He wanted her to know how he felt and wanted to know how she felt. He slowly closed his eyes and could feel her breath against his skin.

Zelda closed her eyes as well and smiled just before their lips touched. Zelda could feel her stomach jump and she moved her hands to his hair.

Link held the Princess of Hyrule to him, his arms around her waist.

The two kissed each other a while till finally Zelda broke it off, gasping for air. She looked in Link's eyes once again and smiled.

"I love you, Zel." Link whispered to her, a smile appearing on Zelda's face.

"I love you, too." Zelda whispered, tears of joy forming in her eyes.

The two stood there like that the rest of the night, eventually falling asleep in the others arms.
