Best if read on June 19th!
(For those of you who have not read Potato Salad's fanfics (and you should, they were very well done), Shadow Day was his concept, set on the same day Sonic Adventure 2 came out. It was his idea, I'm just using it with his permission.)
Shadow's Resolution
And so I am cast away, with hardly a moment for their grief. Is this a hero's payment? To give one's life and barely be remembered? How cruel a world Earth must be, and all the people on it. Was it really worth it to save them, or should I have let them perish?
These are my final thoughts as I fall, to disappear from their lives, forgotten, to return as a memory only when they look upon the moon's scar. My deed is done, the war is won. Now do I just fade away...?
Why shouldn't I? I'll never be needed. The people have their shining blue star, and whenever I'm seen, they just think it's him. They couldn't imagine it being anyone else.
But no! I won't die now. I've fought too hard for a world I've hardly seen. I must have some purpose left... But for better or worse? Justice, or wickedness? Guide me, Maria; I don't know what to do.
All I know is that I am Shadow. Where there is light, so am I. I am a darkness beyond twilight, a crimson beyond blood that flows. I am the Ultimate Life Form.
I cannot – no – will not die.
