Me For Her
Disclaimer: I don't own "Life".
A/N: So I just marathoned this series after discovering it on Netflix. How come all the awesome shows get cancelled? What a great series. Love the characters. I just finished watching today and that one particular sentence in that season finale scene really touched me. I immediately made religious connections and wanted to write it out. Hope you enjoy!
Spoilers: Quotes are from "One", the series finale, and season one's "The Fallen Woman".

Greater love has no one than this, that he lay down his life for his friends. – John 15:13

Me for her. Those three small words that set her free. He offered himself up for her so easily. She, who had fought him at every turn, disdained his Zen ways, rolled her eyes at any attempt at closeness and friendship.
What was his plan getting into that SUV? she had asked.
Getting you out of that SUV.
He had been willing to trade his freedom and his life for her – an alcoholic, recovering drug addict, potentially connected in some way to his friend's death and his own imprisonment, who was romantically involved with someone else. He didn't owe her anything.
He was always so calm. She was always undone.
You don't have faith anymore, but you used to, didn't you?
She pulls the cross and chain out of its small box. Her hand fumbles with the clasp. It's been a long time.
You want it back. It's there waiting for you when you want it, whenever you want it.
A short walk, a brush of the hands, and everything makes sense once again. And she is humbled.
Charlie takes the unyielding necklace from her hands, opens the clasp with ease, and fastens it around her neck. She meets his eyes in the dresser mirror.
"Why did you do it?"
He places his hands on the back of her shoulders. "Because, whether you believe it or not, you are worth saving."
It's not true. She knows herself. Knows that she of anybody is unworthy of redemption. But he did it anyway. She closes her hand around the cross.
Me for her.
So simple but startling with clarity. The moment he spoke those words as she watched him face their greatest enemy, it was like coming up for air. Waking up from a spell. All her self-punishment undone and rendered useless. Love hit her like a ton of bricks. Brought her back to life. Reminded her of someone else who had given his life for hers. Who had saved her because of no other reason than love.
"You gave me my faith back," she tells him.
"You never lost it, Danni. You just needed to remember it was there, waiting for you."
"I feel so tired. Why do I feel so tired?" she wonders.
"Because you're not fighting anymore. You can finally let go."
She turns around and into his arms. A hug he has waited two years to receive. Her heart and her friendship no longer withheld. It was worth the wait.
