When I can walk.

Chapter 10: Beginnings.

When I woke up it was morning. The sun was filling in the room and I could barely open the eyes. Yes, the light of the sun hurt me. So I tried to see something in the room, and, as I couldn't, I went to the window to draw the curtains. In the not so dark room I felt more comfortable. But then I noticed my situation. I was in a room of doctor Delbert's house, it was on first floor, my legs were still painful and the wheelchair was downstairs. What did the family think about what did I had to do? To shout for someone's help? I didn't want to. Yeah, I was sure that Jim would come and he'd grabbed me again and he would laugh at me again and all that, but yes, again, my pride was too high.

So I threw myself to the floor and crept to the door. I reached the knob stretching me and I finally got to open the door. Now I looked like a reptile in the corridor and I'm sure I was ridicule.

Then I heard footsteps. I turned back and saw Sarah looking at me with a funny face with towels and other cloths in her hands.

'Good morning.' I greeted her grinning stupidly.

She giggled.

'Good morning, my dear. I suppose you wouldn't want to call us and make noises. Are you hungry?'

I thought a bit.

'Yes, I am.' I said looking at the railing that was near me.

'Wait to seconds, I'm calling Jim.' She said giggling.

So, after all, I would be carried by Jim, you see?

I crept again and went to the wall to sit, at least to seem not a corpse. And there I wait like… two minutes to see Jim there.

'Hi, Lina.' He said happily.

'Good morning, Jim.' I answered jokingly.

'Are you in a good mood, today?' he said grinning.

'Yeah, I think so.' I said smiling to myself. 'A good dream, I had.'

He looked at me amused.

'Oh. That's good.'

'Yeah.' I said smiling at him.

He then grabbed me and we went to the kitchen.

Then we had breakfast, and, as I was in a better mood, yes, I was happy, all seemed to look brighter and I felt warmer in that family.

I heard some things about the money for the new inn and the relationship between Delbert and Amelia, but most of the time I was playing with Morph, B.E.N. and Jim. B.E.N. was really a crazy robot and made me laugh a lot.

At the evening they said to go out to show us a bit the planet, but I had to say that I couldn't stand the light of the sun.

It can look curious that in the ship I could, but there the stars are further. And in Treasure Planet there was a mist of asteroids enveloping the planet, and I have to say that I was looking to the floor or was in dark places all the time. So, yes, my eyes there were safe.

So, at the knowledge of that, Sarah and Jim decided to buy me sunglasses, but I couldn't go, for the moment. So I stayed at the house with Morph and B.E.N. playing and looking at the plans of the inn while Delbert and Amelia were planning their wedding, I thing.

At the hour of dinner mother and son came home with the sunglasses. I put them on and they said that I looked funny but good with them, and I smiled as looking interesting.

So the days passed, it was summer and we saw how the inn was constructed again, how everyone grow closer to each other, I also went to see the lands near the house, and also how my legs were healing and hurt each day a little less. But after a month, Amelia had to go to the Spaceport because her holidays had finished and told Jim about going with her. Jim, obviously went with her and there they prepared the documents to make Jim a student of the Space Navigation. He was delighted, as we were. The only thing that made us sad was that the University was in another planet, and that planet was one month and a half from Montressor, so, we had to part from him seriously.

A month later it seemed like all was settled down. The inn was finished, I could walk and I could begin with my new life. I decided, for the moment, that I would stay with Sarah and help as much as I could at the Inn while studying my grades. And a week after move into the Inn, Delbert and the Captain got wed. It was a happy celebration to us all. The robot was exhilarating, morph was grinning a lot, Sarah was crying from happiness, but we all missed one person. That guy, or that man was beginning to study, he was at his firsts classes, he was becoming a great man, and I was sure that one day I would see him crossing the space as a Captain.
