Both Johnny and Darry's eyes widened. Of course Dallas had managed to get himself locked up when Johnny needed him most. What was he going to do about Tim now? Surely Dally wouldn't be released in one night. Besides, bailing him out would cost money, something they didn't have much of in the first place.
"Okay, that's creepy. Seriously, you guys are staring at me like fish in a fishbowl. Look, I don't know all the details. All I know is it wasn't something he usually gets thrown in for," Two-Bit explained.
"Is that a good thing or a bad thing?" Johnny asked.
Two-Bit shook his head. "Again, I don't know the details. Sorry, Johnnycake. You could probably find out from Tim, though. I think he was hanging around wherever Dal got arrested. Either way, lemme know if you find anything out. There's a hot blonde down at the DX and I made a bet with Sodapop that I could get her number. Later!"
Two-Bit let the door close behind him as he ran off to flirt with some blonde. Johnny wished he could be with a certain blonde right now as well. He felt a hand on his shoulder and when he turned, his eyes met Darry's. They wore a tired, but caring nonetheless, expression. Johnny sighed and found himself blinking back tears. He was terrified, and now it wasn't just because of Tim. Now it was because of Dally too. Who knew how long they'd keep him, or what he was even there for in the first place.
Tim, that's who knew. Of all the people, Tim was the one hanging around the right place at the right time (or maybe it was the wrong time) to see Dally get dragged away by the police. What if Dally was hurt?
If he was hurt, they'd have taken him to the hospital. There would have been an ambulance, Johnny told himself.
"I'm sure he's fine, Johnny," Darry said, as if he'd read Johnny's mind.
"I know. It's just that now there's Tim and Dally to worry about, and I need to talk to both of them about the other," Johnny said, frustrated with this whole mess that had tangled itself in front of him, and he hadn't done anything but tangle it more.
"Don't worry, I'll go with you to talk to Tim if you want," Darry offered.
"You'd do that? But, Darry, you have work, and I don't want Tim to get suspicious and think I told someone about his threat," Johnny said.
"I actually have someone filling in for me at work tomorrow. I have to go to Ponyboy's school for some program thing. Anyways, it doesn't take all day, but I have the whole day off, so I'll have some time to go with you," Darry replied. "Besides, I doubt Tim will suspect a thing. When it comes to things like this, his brain turns to the size of a pea," Darry winked.
"Well… Okay," Johnny managed a small smile and Darry returned it. "Thanks Darry."
"Don't mention it. Get some rest, Johnnycake. We'll find out more on Dally tomorrow," Darry said as he handed Johnny a pillow and some blankets.
Darry flicked off the lights on his way to his room. Johnny struggled to find a comfortable position on the couch. Usually, it was easy to fall asleep on the Curtis' couch given the fact that he'd slept in the lot before, so anything other than the ground was comfortable, really. Eventually, Johnny let sleep overcome him in the silence of the dark house.
