After Amon is gone and the battle is over, people talk.

Asami wishes they wouldn't.

People talk about the Avatar. Sometimes it's about her bending, her power, the way that she saved the world. But other times, it's about less important things. About her clothes, her hair, her friends, but mostly about her love life.

Girls see Mako and sigh dreamily. Suddenly dark hair and firebending are two traits that every young woman wants in her boyfriend.

"It was matter of time." People say.

"Meant to be." People say.

"Soulmates." People say.

I had him first, Asami wants to say, but never does.

She's never been one to hold her tongue before. She's rapidly becoming a master.

People talk about the Avatar's friends. Sometimes it's about their courage, their loyalty, the way they helped to save the world. But other times its about more annoying things. About who loves who, who's the prettiest, the most handsome, about what they should do now that world is saved.

The Air Sages have their work cut out for them keeping obsessive fans away from Air Temple Island. Men and women, boys and girls gather on the docks and chant their names.

"Korra! Korra! Look over here!" People say.

"You're the best, Bolin!" People say.

"I love you Mako!" People say.

"Asami!" People say sometimes, but not as much as the others.

You don't know anything about us, Asami wants to say, but never does.

When you hold your tongue for long enough, it's hard to start to talking again. Sometimes, she waves at the crowd.

People talk about the Avatar's enemies. Sometimes it's about their debauchery, their shame, the way that they almost broke the world. But other times, it's about more disturbing things. About how they were right, how benders will fall, about how the world isn't saved, not really.

People shout at the Avatar and her friends, ugly words that make Asami filch and Korra shout.

"Equalists! We will be equal!" People say.

"You're oppressing us!" People say.

"Down with benders!" People say.

"Your father was right!" People say, but Asami won't look at them.

My father was wrong, Asami wants to say, but never does.

She doesn't know what's worse, people cursing her father or people praising him. Thinking of him is painful, so she doesn't.

People talk. Asami wishes they wouldn't.

But she never says so.
