Chapter One- Living in Hell

"Attention listeners, we just got word that the Androids have been spotted near Juju island. I repeat- the Androids have been spotted near Juju city! Please do not engage them and go to safety! I repeat-"

Chi-Chi sighed as she shut the radio off. It seemed every time she tried to turn it on to listen to some music, she just got horrible news instead.

For two whole years, the Androids had been the cause of havoc upon the world. As soon as they arrived it was as if the world had turned into a nightmare, one that no one could wake it up from. The brave group that was once the Z-Fighters tried their hardest to save the world, but Seventeen and Eighteen were too monstrous and too powerful.

Chi-Chi shook her head as her eyes went to a picture hanging on the wall. It was of her and Goku on their wedding day... Her Goku... He had died just a few months before the Androids showed up due to a heart virus. Chi-Chi had been devastated... He had truly been her other half and then he was gone...

CRACK!

Chi-Chi jumped at the loud noise. Her eyes widened as her body filled with terror. What if it was the Androids? They had never come as far as the wilderness in the East District, and they were supposed to be on Juju island which was south!

"Mom!" Gohan rushed out of his room and into the kitchen where she was standing. "What was that?"

"I don't know," Chi-Chi whispered. She grabbed Gohan's shoulders and pushed him behind her. He was twelve now and nearly as tall as she was.

"Mom, I could-"

"No," she cut him off, already knowing what he was meaning. There had been several times she had to stop him from going after the Androids himself. He was still so young, and she couldn't lose him!

The doorknob rattled and Chi-Chi's heart pounded. Someone was there and whoever it was, they were coming in. Slowly Chi-Chi reached over and grabbed the skillet on the oven. With a firm grip, she held it up, ready to strike.

The door opened and in stepped a tall figure. Chi-Chi's eyes widened as she looked at the man and she heard Gohan let out a loud gasp. The skillet fell out of her grip with a loud bang as the man walked over to them.

"Chi-Chi... Gohan..."

Chi-Chi looked at the eyes she loved so much and felt tears rolling down her cheeks. "Goku-sa...?" She whispered weakly. It was a dream, it had to have been.

He reached out, his hands stroking her wet cheeks. "I'm here," he told her gently.

"Dad!" Gohan jumped out from behind Chi-Chi and hugged him tightly. "Are you back? For real?"

"Only for a few days," Goku said with sad eyes. "I won a tournament in the other world and got a wish to come back."

"Are you going to fight them?" Gohan asked. "The Androids..."

"No," Goku shook his head. "But I am going to train you."

"Wait," Chi-Chi spoke up then and wiped her wet face. "Train? Goku-sa, you don't expect him to fight the Androids do you?"

"One day I do," Goku nodded. "Him and Trunks both. They're the only hope earth has to defeat them."

Chi-Chi gasped. Not only Gohan but Trunks as well? "They're children," she whispered in horror. Trunks had only turned three, a few months ago.

"They won't always be," Goku said. "I know it's a shock, Chi-Chi... and I know it's a scary thought. I'm asking a lot out of you by asking you to put your faith in the boys. One day they will surpass the Androids and the earth will be free to live again peacefully."

Chi-Chi sniffed. He was asking a lot from her... Gohan... He was her baby, her only child. She had tried so hard when he was younger to keep him from fighting because she wanted him to be better. She wanted him to have a happy, healthy, stress-free life... But even now with him not fighting, he couldn't do that. Not with the Androids roaming around. Gohan fighting might be the only option if she wanted him to have a happy life...

"All I ask is one thing," she whispered. "Gohan... Don't fight them until you can put a dent in them," she told her son. "If you will be overpowered then do not fight, and wait until you can win."

Goku smiled at her and with his free arm, he reached out and wrapped it around her shoulders to bring her close to him. Chi-Chi just sniffed as she rested her head against his chest. They were living in hell and she just hoped that one day, the hellish nightmare would be over.

The light chatter from the TV filled the room as Bulma worked on an old engine for a hovercar. She glanced up from her work to wipe her brow and glanced at Trunks, who was sitting just a few feet away watching TV. Trunks, for the most part, was a good kid, which was a huge relief to her considering how wild his father had been.

A buzzer went off overhead causing Bulma to gasp. When the Androids began their reign of terror, Capsule Corp had no choice but to slow down their production. No one could afford the things they used to be able to, not when the Androids would heartlessly destroy whatever was in their path. Bulma had moved her and Trunks not long after Vegeta had died. Without him there to protect them, she knew they were vulnerable to the Androids attacking. She had packed all that she could before coming to a small wooded home just outside of West City. Bulma knew she wouldn't be able to hide there forever...

The buzzer went off again and Bulma swallowed. Only a few selected people knew where she was located.

"Mom, someone's here," Trunks said.

"Yeah," She nodded. "You stay here and watch your cartoons, okay?"

"Okay," he nodded.

Slowly, Bulma walked over to the door. She grabbed a taser gun on the shelf nearby as she unlocked the door and opened it slowly. Relief flooded through her as she saw Chi-Chi standing at the door.

"Chi..." she opened the door to let her friend in.

"Hi Bulma," she greeted as she walked. "A taser gun?" She asked as she glanced down at the gun.

"Well, I wasn't sure who you were... What brings you by? Is everything okay? Gohan," her eyes searched for the young teen but couldn't see him anywhere.

"Actually," Chi-Chi said. "He's at your old house..."

"What?" Bulma knitted her eyebrows together. "Why is he there?"

"Goku... is back for a few days."

"What?" Bulma gasped. She had to stop herself from dropping the taser before she clumsily placed it on a nearby shelf. Goku was back? How...?

"He won a tournament in the other world. His reward was to come back for a few days... He's wanting to train Gohan."

"Wow..." was all Bulma could think of to say. Goku was back... Only for a few short days, but he was back. She thought of Vegeta and she wondered where he was in the other world. He had been no saint and he had fought the Androids purely for sport, but he had tried to defeat them...

Bulma shook her head to clear her thoughts and glanced at Chi-Chi. She seemed deep in thought and Bulma could only imagine what was running through her mind. She knew that all too soon, Trunks would be wanting to learn how to fight- it was in his blood and that thought terrified her more than anything.

"Chi-Chi, are you hungry? How about you eat lunch with me and Trunks?" Bulma smiled at her.

Chi-Chi gave her a thankful smile. "I would love to."

The night was quiet as Chi-Chi turned in her bed, sleepless. Too many thoughts were on her mind. Goku had been training Gohan diligently for days now and even though she had long quit her fighting days, she could tell her son had made some remarkable improvements. Still, she was fearful. Gohan was too much like Goku, always wanting to fix the bad in the world and always wanting to fight for the good of people. It made her stomach twist in knots. For so long she had tried to make him a scholar, but once the Androids had attacked, she knew she could no longer dream that for him. Now her dream was just to see him be healthy.

The door opened quietly and Chi-Chi listened as Goku's soft footsteps brushed against the carpet. She watched as Goku came around and got into the bed beside her. It was the first night that she had been awake when he came to bed since usually he and Gohan stayed up late training.

Goku's eyes drifted over to her and he smiled. "Hiya, Chi..."

Chi-Chi couldn't help the twitch of her lips. "Hi, Goku-sa..."

He turned slowly so he was facing her and she did the same. She could feel the heat radiating off of him as he moved closer, his hand coming up to brush her loose hair out her face.

"I'm sorry I haven't spent any time with you," he apologized quietly.

Goku was a fighter, but Chi-Chi knew all too well of his tender side... Of his big hugs and warm kisses. Especially of his passionate embraces.

Chi-Chi reached up and held the hand of his that was now brushing her hair. "It's okay, Goku-sa... I know the situation is urgent... It doesn't mean that I don't like it."

"I wish it wasn't urgent," he told her. "I wish I didn't have to leave you and Gohan behind either..."

"I know," she squeezed his hand. "We wish the same thing."

Goku stared at her for several moments before he leaned forward, his lips brushing against hers. At first, it was just careful caresses but when she opened her mouth, it became needy. Goku leaned forward until he was over her and Chi-Chi glanced up at him as he pulled away. Slowly, she wrapped her arms around his neck before pulling him to her. If tonight was the only night she had left with him then she was going to make the most out of it.

"Trunks, please slow down," Bulma sighed as she tried her best to keep up with energetic three-year-old. For the last several days he had been talking nonstop about going to Gohan's house, and when Bulma had talked to Chi-Chi and discovered that she wasn't feeling well, she gave in so they could check up on her.

They reached Son's front door and she tapped on it gently. It had been almost a month since Goku had returned to the other world and Bulma knew that Chi-Chi and Gohan both had taken it hard at first and though it was still hard, they were adjusting.

The door opened and Gohan stood there with a bright smile. "Hey, you two!" He opened it wide and Trunks ran ahead inside.

"Hey kiddo," Bulma ruffled Gohan's hair with a smile. "Where's your mom? I made her some soup. Is she still feeling unwell?"

"Yeah..." Gohan gave a small nod as he shut the door. "It's so weird. It's not like my mom to get sick."

"Hey, I'm sure she'll get through it okay," Bulma assured him. At least, she hoped Chi-Chi did.

"Where is she?" Trunks pulled on Bulma's pants leg.

"Who?" She blinked. "Chi-Chi?"

"Yes?" The woman answered as she walked into the living room. She looked tired but she smiled when she saw them.

"There she is!" Trunks yelled as he ran over to Chi-Chi.

"Trunks!" Bulma rushed after him. "Sorry, Chi-Chi, I don't know what's up with him," she said as she sat the bowl of soup down on the counter. "Trunks, is Chi-Chi the one you've been wanting to see?"

"No, I want to see her," Trunks pouted.

"Who?" Chi-Chi raised a curious eyebrow. She looked just as confused as Bulma felt.

"Her!" Trunks pointed straight towards Chi-Chi's stomach.

Bulma gasped and Chi-Chi's eyes widened as she placed her hands over her stomach.

"How did you know?" She whispered.

"Mom, you're pregnant?!" Gohan gasped.

"I..." Chi-Chi sighed before she nodded slowly. "I took a test this morning... Trunks, how did you know?"

"I just felt her," Trunks said simply.

Chi-Chi's eyes met Bulma's. "Do you think it's a Saiyan thing...?"

"Possibly," Bulma shrugged before looking at Gohan. "But Gohan didn't feel anything..."

"Maybe it's a sign," Gohan piped up. "A sign that Trunks and the baby are bonding..."

"Could be," Bulma nodded slowly. "Sadly, we don't know much about Saiyans..."

Chi-Chi let out a small sigh and sat down at the table. Trunks walked over to her and placed a hand on her stomach, surprising her.

"She's happy," he told her with a small smile.

"Is she?" Chi-Chi asked and Trunks nodded.

"Hey Gohan, can you take Trunks to your room for a minute while I talk to your mom?" Bulma asked.

"Sure," he nodded as he grabbed Trunks' hand. "Want to go look at some cool books?"

"But what about her?" Trunks pouted as he looked at Chi-Chi's stomach.

"She'll be out soon," Gohan promised with a smile. "She's got to get big first."

Trunks looked as if he didn't want to leave but he still followed Gohan back to the older boy's room. Bulma took a seat beside Chi-Chi once they were gone.

"What am I going to do...?" Chi-Chi whispered as she looked at Bulma. "I'm bringing an innocent child into this world that's filled with violence because of the Androids."

"You won't be alone Chi-Chi," Bulma told her. "I'm here, so is Gohan and Trunks. We're all going to help take care of this baby," she promised.

Chi-Chi let out a small sigh as she nodded. "I know... It's just... Part of me is so thrilled. Goku-sa has left a part of himself with me forever..." her hand came up to rest over her belly. "But another part, a bigger part of me is terrified... The androids are getting closer to the mountains all the time and soon they'll be here and Gohan will want to fight them and I just can't bear to see him get hurt," she sighed.

"Chi-Chi, I've been thinking of an idea," Bulma began. "You know Nanari Island... Right?"

"Of course..." Chi-Chi nodded slowly. "It's where all the Z-Fighters are buried."

Bulma nodded as well. Nanari was a remote island a hundred miles away from West City. They had chosen that island to burry the Z-Fighters on so they could have a proper burial without their bodies being tampered with.

"I've been building a bunker on Nanari," Bulma said. "When Trunks and I had to leave Brief Manor I took everything I possibly could and brought it there and then I began the work on the bunker. It's very spacious. It has five rooms and tons of storage space. I have food and other supplies stocked up as well... I guess what I'm trying to say is why don't you, Gohan and the baby come live with me and Trunks?"

"Really?" Chi-Chi asked quietly. "You want us to?"

"Of course I do," Bulma nodded. "We have got to stick together... Plus, I'm not sure about Saiyan bonding but it seems like Trunks and the baby will be close. I'm kind of thankful for that... they'll need each other, don't you think?"

"Yeah," Chi-Chi nodded. "I am thankful that they will have each other," she gave a small nod. "And I am thankful for you too. Thank you, Bulma. I'm glad I'm not in this alone."

The older woman just smiled and reached out to Grab her friends hand. "Of course. We're in this together," she promised.

Gohan paced down one of the long hallways in the bunker nervously. For the past seven months, the bunker had been the home that he shared with his mother, Bulma, and Trunks. It had taken a while for him to get used to the idea of living underground, out of sight, but he understood why his mother and Bulma wanted to live there. They were just trying to protect everyone.

In front of the Chi-Chi's bedroom door sat Trunks, and Gohan couldn't help but watch the boy. He hadn't moved from that spot since Chi-Chi had gone into labor three hours ago... Gohan wasn't sure what type of connection Trunks and his little sister would have, but he had a feeling it was a strong one.

Suddenly, the door cracked open and Gohan could hear the faint crying of a baby. Trunks jumped up and ran to the door as Bulma peeked outside of it.

"Hello boys," she greeted with a warm smile.

"Is she here?!" Trunks bounced with excitement.

"Mhm," Bulma nodded with a warm smile.

"Bulma..." Gohan blinked back his tears at the woman who had done so much for his family. She had made the bunker for everyone and then invited them to live with her and Trunks. She had just delivered his little sister for crying out loud! "Thank you... Thank you so much!"

"Awh, Gohan," Bulma reached over and wiped his cheeks. "Don't cry, hun. It's a happy day, your baby sister is here and she's ready to meet you." She glanced down at Trunks and grinned, "I think she's ready to meet you, as well."

She moved out of the way so the boys could walk in and Trunks zoomed over to the bed where Chi-Chi laid, holding a small pink bundle. The baby was whining softly as Chi-Chi patted her.

"Here," Trunks called, and the whining stopped. "I'm here!" He said.

"Look at that, Trunks," Chi-Chi smiled at him. "You always have the magic touch." She adjusted the baby in her arms so Trunks could see her face. "This is Pan..."

Gohan watched as Trunks' eyes widened as he looked at Pan. She barely had her eyes open but when her eyes met Trunks, she closed them as if content. Gohan made himself a promise as he watched Trunks smiling adoringly at Pan that he would protect them until he no longer couldn't. He'd protect the ones he loves so dearly.
