A/N:
First time writing lady love, and in particular this pairing. Be kind!
Korra never saw her coming.
She never saw Asami beyond the pretty girl with the lovely life.
Asami became good at making her see.
The first time the green eyed girl kissed the Avatar, Korra wasn't sure what was going on inside of her chest, why her heart was beating so quickly, and why she kissed Asami back.
This is strange, she had thought. But her fingers had still tangled into Asami's long, dark hair, she had still nipped at her bottom lip and ground her hips against hers.
Strange, she had thought. But it feels normal.
…
All it was supposed to be was something physical. It was more like a cycle, actually. Korra would bury her head between Asami's legs and when Asami finished she'd flip Korra onto her back and lick her way down the Avatar's body with a demure smile on her pretty face.
They would enjoy each other, Korra thought. That's all.
…
You're beautiful. You're beautiful. You're beautiful.
Korra whispered this to her every night before they'd fall asleep because it was true, because Asami was quickly going beyond anything that Korra could comprehend. Maybe that was okay. Maybe Korra didn't have to understand what was going on in her own heart at this moment.
The sun had risen the next day and Asami had leaned over Korra, her hair shielding the Avatar from the bright morning sunlight.
"Don't you know that you're perfect?" she had said. "Don't you know that I wish that I could be like you?"
Korra didn't cry, but she had wanted to. She'd wanted to stroke Asami's cheek and tell her things that she'd never told to anyone else, but she couldn't. Asami wasn't a boy and Korra was supposed to want boys.
Thing is, she didn't.
…
Today Asami had let Korra drive.
"I don't understand," the Avatar had said, voice almost whipped away the wind.
Asami didn't answer, she'd just taken one of Korra's hands.
Later, the green eyed girl would buy her lunch and smile at her over her noodles and Korra thought that at least she's not alone in her feelings.
…
"Boys are stupid." Asami said this to her one night after they had finished making love. Because that's what it was now. It was making love.
Korra laughed at this, her hair sticking to her sweaty forehead. Her whole body felt hot but she had still scooted as close to Asami as she could get. The other girl had wrapped her arm around her and pulled her close and Korra knew. She knew.
…
Avatar Kyoshi whispered things to her in her dreams. It's okay to love a girl.
It's okay to love.
…
Amon had been defeated but the Avatar was bloodied and beaten. She didn't think that she'd die, at least not yet. Not today.
It was not the firebender brother that made it to her first, nor the earthbender. It was the teenager girl that couldn't bend anything at all, the girl who Korra hadn't been able to see coming.
In seconds she was at the Avatar's side, her pale face stricken. She tucked locks of Korra's brown hair behind her ear and cried, and Korra felt something in Asami's tears.
The Avatar started to cry too and they embraced and even though she was trembling, even though she was pretty sure that her arm was broken, Korra finally whispered how she felt into Asami's ear.
Asami smiled down at her and wiped away a fallen tear on Korra's cheek. "I'm going to stay by your side, no matter what."

It's okay to love.
