Chapter 22

…

The green flames brusquely erupted in the fireplace of Harry and Ginny's temporary home.

Hermione smiled warmly as Madam Pomfrey stepped out of the ash and soot and quickly cast a "scourgify" on herself before wrapping Hermione up in a quick hug.

"You said it was an emergency dear?"

"Yes and I know you're quite busy at the school but my cousin is a muggle and I didn't know who else to call that would keep this discrete." Hermione answered before offering the older witch some tea which she gratefully took.

Madam Pomfrey shook her head as if it wasn't any trouble at all.

"Take me to the girl and I'll see what I can do for the dear."

Jacob tapped his foot anxiously as he waited for Hermione to return along with this talented healer of hers. The instant fear he felt from Hermione when she realized Draco had taken her back to the Swan residence only increased when she saw her blood red eyes and much larger stomach.

'At least I know what condition Bella has from that day, now.'

Pregnant. And with a bloodsucker's baby no less

Jacob was really hoping this thing that Bella was carrying is more human than vampire. He doubted it though the way Bella absentmindedly sucked on those blood candies some witches and wizards were fond of.

"Oh goodness! I see what you meant, Miss Granger!"

The wolves along with the Magic's as Jacob began calling them watched as the older woman, dressed in Victorian era clothes began waving her wand around Bella. Lights and different colored strings floating around her telling her exactly what the hell was going on with the human.

It was about ten minutes later that the witch pulled out a deep red vial and handed it to the girl.

"Well bottoms up dear. It's a miracle you've been surviving on the little bit of dragons blood in those candies. This should fix you right up though you'll be eating regular food in no time as long as you take that potion once in the morning and in the evenings."

Bella took the potion after an encouraging nod from Hermione and Draco and her stomach grumbled loudly not long after.

"Sorry it's just I could go for some steak now." She mumbled to the room

Ginny was the first to break the silence and gave a very unladylike snort before giggles began escaping her.

Madam Pomfrey tutted softly at Hermione though and chastised her gently,"Should have been brought straight to me so I could have sorted her out before now."

"Sorry. It's just we tried researching and-"

The older witch's eyes softened at the girl before she spoke, "You know how backwards some wizards think my girl, I dare say you wouldn't find any useful information surrounding a birth like Fillius or Hagrid either. Mediwitch's are trained in those manners just in case a situation like this would arise. Your cousin will be fine. Her eyes are already returning back to normal and I think I see some color coming back as well. She'll be fine once she eats a proper meal, I'd wager. Her starving was making the baby go into survival mode and attempting to grow faster for a better chance of survival. Don't hesitate to call if something else comes up, dears."

Hermione watched as Harry and Ginny escorted the woman to their home so she might return to England. Draco was escorting Bella to the kitchen in order to fix a proper meal for her, Ron not too far behind with the promise of food.

Hermione couldn't focus on that though because she was quite literally left to the wolves. And though Jacob didn't look near as angry at her she could just feel his hurt radiating off of him into the bond they shared.

The bond, which was now five times stronger than it was when they first connected; almost as if it was fighting back at her for fighting it in the first place, despite how 'noble' her reasons might have been.

"We need to talk." Jacob stood up just as tall as Sam now and Hermione nodded following the boy out back and into the woods so they could have some kind of privacy.

"What did you do to me?"

Straight to the point it was then.

Hermione tried not to flinch at his question but he must have felt her through their bond regardless and she watched as his eyes softened.

"I erased your memories. Those vampires that attacked are working with a group of very dangerous and quite frankly insane group of wizards called Death Eaters. They're after Harry and myself and Ron. I couldn't let them use you against me. I wouldn't be able to stand to see you get hurt."

Jacob stood tall and firm as he walked to the smaller girl, "My name is Jacob Black. I'm a shapeshifter and I kill vampires in my spare time. Wizards don't exactly put the fear of God in me."

Hermione sighed contentedly as she felt his arms wrap around her his heat strong enough to cocoon her and her very magic. She looked up at Jacob and with a slightly shaky voice answered him back, "My name is Hermione Granger. I'm a witch and I helped defeat a Dark wizard and am currently a target for his deranged followers."

Jacob held her tighter and whispered as gently in her ear as possible.

"Not for long."

"How fucking difficult is it to capture one stupid muggle girl?"

Antonin was not amused and smashed his glass tumbler against the wall right next to Peter's head. Victoria watching on in boredom from the opposite side of the room.

"Your little witch killed my favorite newborn. Riley had such potential." She didn't even look up as she spoke to Antonin, her nails far more interesting than the Death Eater. "The blonde wizard was kind of cute and seems to be attached to our muggle problem. Perhaps changing him could benefit the both of us?"

Lucius wouldn't like it but he wasn't the one in charge anymore. He was the top Death Eater as far as any of them were concerned.

He nodded and waved his hand as if he did not care either way and watched as Victoria smiled to herself before walking away and disappearing into the night.

AN: And I updated! I know I don't even want to begin on how long of a wait that was for all of you and I'm so sorry it took so long. I'll be going through all of my works updating, revamping the works on all of them. There is a poll on my profile currently about which stories you've missed the most and would like to see updated soon.
