Reina didn't wait for Zhē to reach the ground before jumping off. Her feet hit the concrete and she continued forward in a roll before sprinting to the nearest body, heedless of the danger around her. She winced when her knees hit the pavement as she slid beside the man in the now ruined suit, but she shoved the pain to the back of her mind as she began to assess the situation.

"Trash," Xanxus wheezed, glaring up at her from the pool of blood he was laying in.

"Asshole," she greeted as she started to roll him onto his back.

If she had to guess, the worst injury he had was the missing arm followed closely by the two large gashes above both his knees. But that was just a guess. He made a few complaining growls as she ripped strips of cloth from his suit jacket.

"Oh, shut up," she scoffed as she began to tie tourniquets above his wounds. "You probably won't survive anyway," she added under her breath as she inspected his arm stump.

His arm stopped at his elbow and the skin around the wound was raw and pink, but on the bright side it wasn't bleeding. The flesh was warm to the touch, meaning it was burnt and badly. Somehow the wound had been cauterized, and while that meant he wasn't losing blood he had a much higher risk of getting an infection if he wasn't careful.

"Don't move," she ordered him as she balled up a few more pieces of his jacket to place under it.

He groaned again which she took for confirmation and she took off for the next body. She saw Yamamoto tending to Squalo and Dino was staggering his way out of the line of fire, so that meant that the only one left collapsed on the ground was Byakuran. Her heart dropped a few centimeters in her chest when she saw that he was lying face-down on the pavement next to the fountain, right on the outer edge of the battle.

Reina took a deep breath and pressed on, dodging flying chains and trying her best to stay out of the fighting. She threw herself to the ground when the weighted end of an errant chain whizzed past her head. She ignored the jolt of pain sent from her chin when it hit the rough concrete as she drug herself the last few feet to Byakuran's side.

"Oh, it's Rei-chan," he greeted her with a weak, bloody smile, "hi, Rei-chan."

She grunted her response as she gently probed the area around the gaping hole in his chest. The wound wasn't bleeding as much as one would expect seeing as it went clear through his torso. She had to swat his hands away a few times so she could get a sense of the damage.

"Stop that," he giggled shakily, "it tickles."

"You stop," Reina ordered with a scowl.

She noted the faint orange tint around the edges of his wound, but any further examination was cut short by a hand wrapping around her throat.

"Rei-chan," Byakuran groaned as he reached for her as she was lifted off the ground.

She could only take in a ragged breath as she clawed at the fingers digging into her skin and her feet kicked uselessly in the air as she struggled to get free. The blood flowing through her neck was being hindered, she could tell since the edges of her vision were blurring. Her brain was just beginning to hijack the energy being wasted by her flailing feet and clawing fingers when she was suddenly released. She collapsed onto the concrete and took deep, shuddering breaths as she looked behind her, silently thanking whoever had saved her.

It was Tsuna.

"Tsunayoshi-kun's here," Byakuran rasped with a feeble smile.

Reina's smile was much stronger than his as she felt relief wash over her as she watched her neighbor trade blows with Jagger. She turned her attention back Byakuran after a moment; she was confident that Tsuna would win without her watching him. She crawled over to the wounded man on her hands and knees, ignoring the small stones digging into her palms and knees as she pulled his arm over her shoulders before rising shakily to her feet.

"Com' on," she grunted as she started to take staggering steps as blood began to flow unrestricted through her body.

Byakuran only groaned as he tried to move his feet but he could only manage to drag them a few centimeters before he collapsed onto the smaller girl trying to support him. Her knees buckled under his dead weight, but Reina gritted her teeth and kept moving. She could hear the battle raging behind her but not much else aside from his weak breathing in her ear and her muscles were beginning to burn from the strain.

Then Byakuran's weight was lifted from her shoulders and there were hands steadying her. She looked around and saw that Yamamoto and Dino had taken the wounded man between them and Chrome had an arm around her shoulder to keep her from swaying. The triage team had arrived, and with help from some illusions made real by Verde's machine they appeared to have things under control.

"Are you okay?" Chrome asked, inspecting Reina for injuries.

"Yeah, I'm fine," Reina shrugged off the younger girl's arm.

"Reina-san," Chrome started in a reproachful tone.

"There are people here hurt worse than me," she brushed off her concern.

Reina ignored the girl's injured expression and took stock of the situation. Everything seemed to be under control, but who knew how long that would last with the battle raging meters away. As if to confirm that though a blur passed before her eyes, pausing at each remaining representative watch before coming to her.

The blur stopped at her for what must have been a fraction of a second but it felt longer. Possibly because her heart stopped beating when she saw a set of vacant, black eyes set into a pale face staring at her. The next thing that registered in her mind was a crushing pain in her left wrist and she felt her bones buckle under the pressure and what she could only assume to be shards from her now broken watch bite into the delicate skin of her inner wrist.

Then she blinked and the face was gone, but the throbbing, piercing pain in her wrist remained. It didn't quite hit her until she glanced down at her mangled wrist and saw the blood dripping down her hand. She dimly heard Chome call out to her, but Reina was far more fascinated by the bits of metal and plastic sticking out of her skin. When she moved to pick one of the pieces out she was suddenly surrounded by people each telling her not to do that so instead she cradled her wrist while the medics inspected it.

"Here," a man's voice said and a hand bearing Sun Flames came into view.

"No," Reina said as she moved her hand away, looking up to see Lussiria watching her with a concerned expression. "There are people who need it more than me."

For a moment it seemed like he was going to argue that point with her but instead he nodded to the medics before stepping away. Again she was swarmed by medics and this time they ushered her away from the battlefield. Reina cast one last took over her shoulder and she could make out vague, blurry shapes in the middle of the plaza moving at high speeds.

Reina watched in mild amusement while a bewildered doctor looked between the X-rays that had been taken of her wrist before she had been wheeled into the sterile room. To her untrained eye they all appeared to be the same, but apparently there was some difference that confounded the ER doctor. Growing tired of watching the man puzzle over the X-rays she looked around the room and found it to look like every other examination room she had ever been in. Granted that number was small all things considered, but the walls painted a close cousin of white didn't exactly stand out to her. She considered moving things around on the examination table but decided against it, the instruments were probably laid out that way for a specific reason.

"Must be shadows," he muttered to himself as he turned away from the films clipped to the display. "You have several fractures to the bones in your left wrist, miss," he informed, "and while you're still bleeding more than the recommended amount it's much less than when you first came in, so the coagulants that the nurses gave you must be working.

"Now that the bleeding is down to a much more manageable level we can remove the shrapnel," he continued as he grabbed a set of forceps and sat down next to her. "After this," he said as he carefully picked out a large-ish piece of plastic and dropped it into the stainless steel pan next to him, "I'm going to stich up the wounds with some absorbable sutures," another fragment dropped into the pan, "then I'm going to set your wrist in a cast and that will be that."

"Why are you telling me this?" Reina asked with a frown as she watched him pull another piece of plastic from her skin.

"It's my experience that patients appreciate knowing what's happening to them," the doctor chuckled as he pulled a final piece out, tugging a bit when it caught on the blood clotted around it.

"Maybe those coagulants are working too well," he murmured to himself almost too softly for Reina to hear.

She chose not to comment as he moved on to stitching up the larger gashes. Silence reigned in the small room as she watched the sutures pull her skin back together. Once that part was done the doctor moved on to prepare the plaster for the cast. She winced as he reset her bones, and he offered her a sympathetic smile for comfort. The mixture was surprisingly cold and a little bit clumpy when it was applied to her skin, and she winced when the doctor pressed it against her swollen wrist.

"Sorry," he apologized, "it's almost done."

"Alright, that's it!" the doctor declared as he stood up and started for the sink. "Just have to give it a few minutes to dry."

Reina remained silent as she tried moving her arm, the cast was surprisingly heavy. She heard the doctor move around the room, but she ignored him for the most part. Then he sat down next to her again with what appeared to be a hair dryer.

"To speed things up," he answered her unasked question before turning the device on.

The only sound echoing within the off-white walls was the whirring of an electric motor for the next few minutes. Not that Reina wanted to say anything in particular; she was too busy worrying about the outcome of the battle.

"Alright," the doctor started when he turned off the hair dryer, "we're done here. You can't really get this wet," he gestured towards the white cast encasing her wrist, "so be careful around water. Come back in a month or so and we'll see how things look, maybe it can come off then.

"Be sure to stop by the nurses' station on the way out to finish up any paperwork they might have for you," he said as he stood up and moved to the door. "Please don't take this the wrong way," he started as he opened the door, "but I hope to never see you here again."

Reina gave a smirk at his attempt at a joke as she walked passed him. He closed the door behind her and almost immediately she was swarmed. She was barely able to catch I-pin with her good arm before Fuuta wrapped his arms around her torso and Lambo latched himself onto her right calf. Then Yamamoto walked up and picked her up in a bone-crushing hug along with all of her passengers.

"Reina-san!" a chorus of voices cheered as she let out a surprised squeak.

As soon as the door clicked shut the doctor pulled a cell phone out of the pocket of his coat. He listened closely as the young woman was greeted by who he assumed to be her friends and a small smile stole its way across his lips. He quickly opened up his messages and started a new draft. In a moment the message was sent and his small smile turned into a grin.

Found her

A/N: So... yeah, six months is a long time. Babies have been born, men have died and y'all have waited patiently/totally forgot about this story. Either way I'm back and the cannon arcs are pretty much done with and I'm going to go off on my own, so wish me luck! I might turn my off-cannon into its own separate story, but I'm not sure yet (mostly because I have absolutely no idea what I would call it) so message me/leave a review if you feel strongly either way - or have a really funny joke you want to tell me.
