A/N: I am sorry.

Here it goes…

Chapter 48: Darkness

Elena's POV

I have no idea how today is going to go. I am nervous. That is for sure. Scared? A little.

But I don't know how to react around Jacob. The tension which used to be between us has been multiplied by thousands now. And my heart starts to flutter a little too fast whenever I think about him.

God, I am so freaking in love with him.

It's not even funny.

All night, his words kept ringing in my mind.

"People have described me as Sun, El, but I swear your smile is even brighter than that."

My heart tugged just remembering the expression on his face. And involuntary smile appeared on my face.

I was starting to get restless. It was like; my body was physically craving his presence.

I should be scared, and believe me I was.

I don't know how I will face everyone today. I had multiple calls from everyone, which I knowingly avoided. I don't have answers for them, because I had questions of my own.

I know why Jacob became an Alpha. The only thing which was bothering me was that, now that the heat of the moment was gone, did Jacob regret doing it?

I would be perfectly fine if he did. Because if I was in his place, I would too. Being an Alpha isn't a joke.

He is so young.

All this was going in my head as I walked to Emily's house. I have an idea that everyone will be there sans Jacob. Or maybe he will decide to show up after all.

I wring my hands together, the nervousness eating at me.

God, it's just Jacob.

Yeah, right.

That man oozes power.

"The heck, girl!" I scolded myself. "It's going to be fine; he is not going to eat you." I said to myself looking up at the sky. I exhaled loudly and then looked ahead to see Jacob walking towards me with a slight smile on his face.

Oh hell.

I know my eyes were the size of a saucer, because well, in the light of the day, I can see how much he changed. His black shirt stretched tightly around him. How is he even breathing?

His shoulders were broader. His eyes were focused.

I stood there like a fool as he walked up to me and stood a little too close.

I took a step back. He took a step ahead. I gave up because seriously, I know that he can play this game all day.

"Um, hey." I said avoiding his eyes.

Don't look in his eyes! You'll get sucked in their depths!

My conscious shouted at me.

What the hell? Sucked in their depths?

I didn't know my conscious was of Shakespearian era.

"I might eat you after all." He said and my eyes snapped to him. Big mistake.

His eyes crinkled at the corner.

I narrowed my eyes on him.

"Like you can even catch me." I mumbled and he pressed his lips together.

"I will always catch you, baby." He said with a big smile and we both know that there was double meaning in those words.

"Now come here" he said as he hooked his arm behind my neck and pulled me to him. My hands came in between to maintain a little distance.

"Let me go!" I said pushing against his chest.

"Uh huh!" he said as he pulled me tighter against him.

I craned my neck up to look at him with a frown on my face.

"What does 'uh huh' means? You cannot just invade my personal space. I am sure it's against the law." I said and he just smiled at me. Such a beautiful- okay! Not going there.

"It means that I am not letting you go." He said and I rolled my eyes.

"I might have to get a restraining order against you." I said and he snorted.

"You can't." he said with confidence.

"What do you mean I can't?" I asked narrowing my eyes at him.

"I am too cute for you to get a restraining order against me. You can't help but think how cute I am." He said I dramatically exhaled. Cute? More like hot or sexy or intense even.

"You are not cute." I said and then his eyes turned molten and he pouted his bottom lip and blinked at me two times.

Oh My God.

I closed my eyes tightly because damn! I was turning into mush. How can he do that! It's not fair!

Jacob chuckled and I wanted to hit him badly.

"Open your eyes" he said and I did and as I was opening my mouth to voice my protest, his lips descended on mine.

And to say that I forgot what I was about to say would be accurate.

His lips were soft on mine, and I felt myself go liquid, again. I knew he liked my submission because his other hand on my waist tightened. I clutched his t-shirt in my fists and went up on my toes so that I can kiss him back.

His other hand clutched the back of my head and held me tightly against him. I felt his tongue touch mine and an involuntary moan left me. I was clutching his shirt so tightly that I was afraid that it will tear apart.

Damn, he tastes fine. Just fine.

We both broke the kiss to take in the much-needed air.

"Yeah, I could definitely eat you alive." He dared joke at that moment and I glared at him or well tried to. I was still trying to catch my breath. His amused glare ran over my face, "What are you doing to me?" he whispered yet again.

Since I didn't know the answer to that I pushed him away, and we both know that it was solely possible because he let himself be pushed. Whatever.

"You cannot just do that!" I pointed my finger at him.

"Do what?" he asked innocently.

"Kiss me like that!" I replied because well, I can get used to it. And it was scary.

Just like him.

"I just did, didn't I?" he shrugged.

That bastard.

"Whatever" I said as I walked past him, on my way to Emily's house.

Not a second later, his fingers were entwined with mine and he took the lead.

I just shook my head at him muttering, "Douche". He just smiled more.

There is so much that we must talk about. So much has happened and among everything Jacob and I never talked. Things have changed now, I can feel it and I bet he can too.

"We have to talk Jacob." I said after a few seconds. He kept his gaze ahead while he answered.

"Talk about what?"

"Everything that has happened." I said.

"There is nothing to talk about." He said and I stopped in my tracks. I glared at him.

"There is a lot to talk about, Jacob." I said and his eyes harden a bit. I didn't like that at all.

"I have already too much going on Elena. I am sure your talk can wait." He said and I hated the change in his mood. I decided to let it go for now.

I didn't even try to free my hand because I know that he won't let go.

So, I decided to deal with it and went with him.

Five minutes later we were walking up the steps of Emily's porch.

I was not exactly nervous now, but a bit varied. Because well, I don't know how everyone else will react.

"Nervous?" I asked Jacob.

"Nope" He said and well he didn't sound nervous.

I left Kodo at Joe's because well, if things turn out of hands here, I just don't want him to be in the middle of it. He is a strong dog, but I don't want to test his limits.

Paul never came back home, so it means that he was with Rachel at Jacob's house.

It means that Jacob never went home, or he will be getting arrested for murder.

Jacob opened the door and well there was no one there.

"They are outside." Jacob kept walking towards the back door; when he opened, it I was a little surprised.

Everyone was there.

And I mean everyone.

Paul, Rachel, Jared, Kim, Leah, Seth, Embry, Quil, Sam, Emily, Sue, Billy and Old Quil were all there and as soon we came out, their heads snapped up.

Wow.

I didn't know that it was sort of a meeting.

Looking at Jacob, standing there without a single emotion on his face lead me to believe that he knew about this. And he didn't find it necessary to share the information. Amazing.

There was a sudden change in the atmosphere. I realised it was because of Jacob. He was doing that Alpha thing-y again. Every bit of emotion wiped clear from his face. The little smile that he wore on his face for me was also gone.

I don't like that.

All the guys/ their wolves became more alert. Of course, they sensed the presence of another Alpha.

Jacob's grip tightened on my hand, almost to the point of being painful and only then I realised that he was nervous.

Just like he was a little bit scared too.

I didn't like that one bit either. So, I decided to take matters on my own hand.

It was a risky move because I know that Jacob likes to take matter in his own hands, so does his wolf. So, interfering like this might tick him off. But we'll see about that later.

"We are all here gathered today to- "I cleared my throat. Jacob cocked his brow at me, his lips pressed together to contain his smile. "-To well, umm, this meeting?" I gave up. Everyone was giving me blank looks, except Billy of course, who was looking lovingly at me. He is such a sweetheart.

"Jacob" Old Quil said. We both turned to look at him. "You have accepted your rightful place as an Alpha." He said and I shifted closer to Jacob. He took a step ahead so that half of my body was covered with his and I placed my free hand on his arm.

"I have." Jacob said with his voice in total control.

"Sam, you are going to have to step down from the Alpha's position now." Old Quil said to him. And Sam gave a terse nod. "The pack is going to be led by you now, Jacob."

"I don't want to lead the pack. Sam can have his position for now." Jacob said and everyone frowned.

"You are the rightful Alpha Jake; it's your birth-right. You have to lead the pack." Billy said.

"I know that. I am not yet ready to lead a pack. I don't want that kind of responsibility right now." Jacob said and I agreed with him. "So, until I am ready, Sam can lead the pack."

"Two Alphas cannot stay in a pack child; the need to dominance will lead you both to fight for the power." Billy said softly. I know that he understands what Jacob wanted. But it doesn't seem possible.

"Then I'll be alone." Jacob said.

"An Alpha needs a pack Jake. You cannot stay alone. Lone wolves, -
Sam shook his head "-as the rumour goes, can't survive on their own for long. They'll start to slowly lose their mind."

"I don't think that I am ready to be an Alpha yet." Jacob said and I felt bad for everything that was happening.

"Jake, I understand, I really do. But the blood of Alphas runs in you. It'll come natural to you." Old Quil said.

I bit my bottom lip. Jacob was not ready but I didn't know much about the how the whole pack system works.

"We can split the pack." Jared suggested.

My eyes shot to him and took in what he was saying.

"A few of us can be in Jacob's pack. So, that it is not a lot for him to handle. Once he is comfortable with everything, the rest of us can join him." He said and somewhere in my heart it doesn't seem like a good idea.

"No" Billy said and everyone looked at him. "Splitting the pack doesn't sound good. Jacob needs time to adjust, sure, but in the early days of him being an Alpha he'll get to know every member of a pack. Splitting the pack for a time will create a barrier in between. For the time being, Jacob or his wolf will see the rest of the pack as outsiders. A pack survives on trust and loyalty. Splitting the pack and then emerging them is only going to create tiffs and nothing else."

Everyone considered this for a moment and then Jacob stepped ahead.

"I'll take my position as the Alpha in the pack." He said with so much surety that even I believed him.

"Jake" he silenced me with a look. I grit my teeth together to refrain from saying anything more.

"I accept my position as the Alpha." He repeated and Sam gave a terse nod.

I didn't like what was happening. But I know that it must be done. And I was also sure that I would help Jacob handle everything.

"So, are you ready Jacob?" Old Quil asked and Jacob nodded.

"Ready for what?" I asked. Old Quil smiled at me.

"For the first pack run." He said and I looked at Jacob, who winked at me. He is being too, argh, I don't know. Cute? At ease? Whatever.

"What are you looking at? Loose the clothes already." I said making a face at him.

He chuckled as he shook his head and I rolled my eyes. He even chuckled perfectly. What the hell?

"You coming?" he asked and I sighed dramatically.

"I am going to be beat you all." I said and he raised his brow.

I just turned and walked towards the wood.

Third Person's POV

"Em!" Elena called out Emily's name before heading towards the woods. Emily walked to her and smiled warmly at her. "How are you feeling now?" Elena asked her.

"I am fine." Emily said with a bright smile.

Elena stepped closer to her and then whispered into Emily's ear, "You are pregnant, aren't you?"

Emily looked surprised but nodded her head. Elena jumped clapping her hands excitedly.

"I knew it! You are glowing!" Elena said Emily blushed. "Does Sam know?" I asked.

"Yeah, it's almost freaky but he can detect every change in my body." She said sighing and Elena chuckled.

"It is freaky." Elena agreed.

"What is?" Jacob said coming towards her.

"You are." Elena said shrugging her shoulder.

Jacob rolled his eyes. "Are you coming or scared of running with a bunch of wolves?" Jacob cocked his brow and Elena snorted.

"Afraid of bunch of cute, little wolves? Nah. I was just giving you all a head start." Elena said and Jacob shook his head, a small smile playing on his lips.

Elena watched the guys taking off their shirts and then transforming into their wolf form, except Jacob, who gave her a deliberate slow show of removing his shirt. Elena tried, but eventually her eyes slipped to his chest.

She saw Jacob watching her with a smirk on his face, but she just shook her head and turned to look at Emily, who was watching this with immense pleasure.

"Loose the grin, Em." Elena mumbled.

"You are so totally smitten with him." Emily said and Elena grimaced.

"Ewe, not at all." She protested and Emily rolled her eyes.

"Right" Emily said not believing her for a second.

Elena just shook her head and saw Jacob's wolf ahead of everyone else. They growled for a few seconds and then took off. Elena gave them exactly five seconds' head start then she followed behind them.

Elena was soon between the wolves. Jacob was in the front, and he was exceptionally fast. Sam was just behind Jacob and the others were with her.

She pushed herself a bit harder and she reached Jacob soon enough. Jacob turned his head a bit to acknowledge Elena, a small smile playing on his face.

"You okay there, cujo?" Elena said and Jacob growled a bit. Elena chuckled. The thrill of running with a pack, her pack, was amazing. She could feel the excitement of the pack. It spread a sense of belonging through her. She smiled looking at Jacob thinking that it'll be okay.

Jacob occasionally turned to look at Elena, a sense pride flowing through him. She was amazing. He could feel the approval of everyone when they looked at Elena running beside him.

"Damn she is fast." Embry said and others voiced their approval too.

"Of course, she is, she has to match our Alpha now." Leah commented and Jacob smiled.

"I bet she'll even outrun you in a few days' time." Paul said and Jared snickered.

"Oh, don't worry, I'll catch her." Jacob said, liking the idea of 'playing chase' with Elena a bit too much.

"She is the perfect Alpha-female." Sam said and everyone agreed.

"Hey! If Elena was a wolf, what colour do you think she would be?" Seth asked, and everyone started discussing what colour she would be. But Jacob didn't have to think for long. He knew the answer.

"White" he said and all the conversation stopped. "She'll be a white wolf."

"Yeah, white's her colour." Sam agreed.

Jacob looked at Elena as calmness washed over him. Of course, she'll be a white wolf. She gives him peace, even though at times, she makes him want tear out his hairs, but in the end, he knows that he'll always run to her.

He was stupid to not realize it any sooner, but he came to his senses now. He knows that there will never be some else. Elena, was it for him, and this thought settled him. A deep satisfaction ran through him.

Elena winked at him and he melted a little bit more. He would do anything for her, anything.

"You love her." Paul said. And it was true.

"How can I not?" Jacob said as he ran a little closer to Elena.

He loves her more than anything, and it feels like that she is the only person he has ever loved this much.

His train of thoughts was cut short as he realised that someone else was among them. But what occurred next, happened so fast that everything was a blur. One second he was running along with his mate and the next she disappeared into thin air.

A moment of panic stole Jacob's breath away. He stopped abruptly along with others. He looked around but Elena was nowhere to be seen.

"WHERE DID SHE GO?" His wolf growled in anger. He never felt emotions this raw, as he did in this moment. He growled and snarled, barking at everyone to search for her.

"Where did she GO?!" His voice thundered. The raw power surging through him became too much to control.

"Jake, we'll find her. Control your emotions. You are losing yourself." Sam's voice rang in Jacob's head but to no avail. He snarled and growled. His wolf wasn't calming down.

It was like, everything was crashing down on him, his emotions along with the power of an Alpha were too much, and on top of that the threat to his mate was driving him insane.

"What is happening to him? I can feel him cutting off from us!" Quil said with fear clear in his voice.

"Jacob! Get it under control!" Sam's voice boomed but Jacob only growled louder. It was not the voice his wolf wanted to hear. That voice meant nothing to him. Only the image of a girl with long black hairs and with the most beautiful smile flashed in his mind. His mate, his imprint.

He cannot lose her, not now. Not after everything they have been together.

His eyes sharpened and his ears perked back, with his head turned up at the sky, he let out a loud howl. A howl signifying anger, pain, and a promise to destroy anyone who would dare harm his mate.

Elena's POV

It took me a moment to gather my senses. Everything was turning around me, everything was blurry and I had this weird urge to throw up.

First, I was a bit confused, and then came the anger.

"What the hell?" I turned to look at the only person who is capable to do this. "What were you thinking, coming out of nowhere and just zapping me like that?" I snapped my fingers.

Patrick remained silent throughout my outburst but then again, how can he possibly justify his actions?

"Damn it!" I cursed as I thought about Jacob and the guys. They must be losing their minds right about now. "You are dealing with Jacob when we get back." I said to Patrick who still hasn't said a word.

The numb expression on his face, gave me a pause.

Of course, just when I thought that everything is over now, something new comes up.

"What is it?" I asked him, my voice deceptively calm. But on the inside I was just waiting for the shoe to drop.

Patrick was still quiet and it increased my nerves.

"Patrick... what is it?" I stressed.

He looked up at me with so much guilt in his eyes that I had to take a step back.

And then it clicked.

I don't know how, but I know. I just know it.

"No" I said shaking my head.

"Elena" That's it. That's the only thing that he said.

"Tell me this is not happening right now." I demanded.

Patrick sighed, "Duane is coming."

Those three words turned what I was thinking into harsh reality. I hated it.

"Why now? God, why now? Everything is finally on the verge to get better and now this. It'll set us all back!" I clutched my hairs tightly in my grip.

"We both knew that it would happen." He said and I shook my head.

"But not now! Jacob is going through so much, he has the responsibility of his pack and he needs me." I said as I imagine how Jacob will react to all this.

I know that he won't hesitate to join the fight, but can I really live with knowing that more people fought a battle for me that was not theirs?

"Okay, okay. Let's just calm down for a moment." I said as I took in a deep breath. "Duane wants me, right? He has a problem with me, so I'll deal with him. You must promise me that you won't tell anyone else about this. Promise me Patrick." I begged him.

Patrick shook his head, "You know I can't do that. You cannot handle him alone."

"You don't understand Patrick! There is already a lot going on with the pack. I don't want them to burden more. I can't stand the thought of someone getting hurt because of me. Not anymore." I said and Patrick got the meaning behind my words.

"It was not your fault." He said with a face void of any emotion.

"Yeah, keep telling yourself that. But we both know that's not true." I said as a feeling of guilt washed over me. Patrick opened his mouth to say something but I beat him to it. "Tell me Patrick, do you really think they'll be any help against the Duane and his men? These are not Vampires we are talking about here. They are so much stronger because they don't even need to touch them for them to hurt someone." I finished.

Patrick mulled over my words for a while but in the end, he nodded his head. "I still don't agree about you keeping this from him but I'll let you have your way for now. But if things turned the other way, just remember that I'll be the first one to tell him." He said and I nodded.

"That's fair enough. Now zap me back to him. Because I have a feeling that he is not handling it well. You really shouldn't have taken me when I was with him." I dreaded going to him because I was afraid in what condition I would find him in. And now that he was an Alpha, things just got more intense with him.

"I just hope everything's good." I mumbled.

Everything was not good.

At all.

"He's what?" I asked again. Sam sighed beside me.

"He's refusing to turn back in to his human form because he is blocking us all out. He is more wolf right now that he is human. I think he is in shock and feeling pretty helpless right now." Sam said and I turned to look at him.

"Helpless?" I was surprised to hear that.

"Yeah, it's sort of understandable." Paul said. "You were disappeared when he was right beside you. And couldn't do anything to protect you. Just imagine that Jacob was within you reach and still something took you away from him, won't you feel helpless?"

A pang in my chest had me rubbing the spot over my heart. It even hurt to think about that. I can understand the feeling of helplessness that he might be going through right now.

"Damn it, I'll just go and try to find him." I said as I started walking out of Em's house.

"Elena- "

"Don't even say it, Sam. He is not going to hurt me. Not even his wolf." I said over my shoulder.

"I thought that too." He said and I know he was referring to the incident that happened with him and Emily.

"He won't hurt me." I said with conviction and ran rest of the way to the forest.

"Jacob!" I shouted as I searched for him. It has been almost fifteen minutes since I have been looking for him and there is no sign of him yet.

"Where are you?" I muttered to myself and started walking towards left. I heard a sound behind me but before I could turn completely, I was pushed on the ground rather roughly and a very huge, very angry wolf was hovering over me.

Jacob bared his sharp teeth at me and I closed my eyes for a moment. Damn, he is angry.

"Hey" I said softly and raised my hand to touch him but he moved his head away. I understand the current situation but it still hurts to know that he refused my touch.

He growled at me.

"I am sorry." I said as if understanding what he was saying. Maybe he is accusing me of disappearing? I know it wasn't my fault but I know it's no good to make him understand that.

He growled fiercely yet again.

His eyes were hard and unforgiving, it was almost like he wasn't seeing me clearly. He was too far gone and was letting his wolf take over him.

I wasn't scared. Because if I know anything, it's that Jacob's wolf would never hurt me. His wolf knows me. That's why he hasn't attacked me yet. Otherwise I am sure I would've been dead by now.

"You know my godfather, don't you? His sense of humor is a bit…odd. He thought that it would be funny to zap me up like that. I gave him a hard time about it." I kept on babbling. He growled again.

"What do you want from me?" I asked him. His heavy paw was against my stomach and the other one over my head. He is a large wolf.

Suddenly he looked up and a furious sound escape him. I tried to look who came but Jacob's paw pressed down against me, refusing to let me budge.

"Well, whoever it is. You better leave because I can assure you he will hurt you." I said and heard a responding growl.

"Just leave, really. You are only making this harder for me." I said and Jacob let out a howl. I covered my ears because damn, he can howl. I think whoever it was left because Jacob looked down at me again.

"Umm, let me up please." I said but what did he do? He sat with one of his paw still spanning my stomach. "O-kay. So, this is how it is right?" I mumbled. Looks like we are not going anywhere for a while.

Few minutes passed in silence. I was looking up at the canopy of the trees, but maybe Jacob didn't like that because he snarled and my eyes shot to him. He narrowed his eyes a bit.

"Okay, okay, you've got my attention." I said and then sighed heavily. "Do you even know right now who I am?" I asked and he just stared at me in response.

"Guess not." I said shrugging. "I think I am going to have the longest one sided conversation now."

I touched his nose with my finger. "It's squishy" I exclaimed with a big smile and the wolf huffed. He was about to bite my finger, playfully of course, so I lowered my hand.

"Well I think that you know who I am, but doesn't exactly know who I am. Don't worry big guy, I'll help you remember. Okay?" I said as I caressed his head.

"Once upon a time..."

Third Person's POV

Jacob knew this girl. He may not be able to pin point her name, but he knew deep in his heart that this girl matters to him a lot. Because he wasn't feeling feral towards him. He could scent himself on her, as if to tell everyone that she belongs to him. He was calm, a sense of peace was surrounding him.

She was talking continuously. He was understanding only some of the words but he didn't mind. Even her voice was like magic to him.

"Once upon a time there was a girl named Elena" A jolt of recognition ran through him. Elena. His Elena. His El.

"And a boy named Jacob." She said.

The girl lying under him was his imprint. His everything. Something in him compelled him to uncover a portion on her neck. He nudged the cloth with his nose and a mark was revealed. Mark, that he knew she would have for the rest of their lives. He licked the mark and Elena snorted beneath him.

"Of course, you would remember this." she said and he watched her roll her eyes. "Looks like you remember me. But I'll finish my story however."

"So, the girl, Elena, was amazing. She was smart, beautiful, a little crazy but good. And the guy, Jacob was stubborn, a bit hard headed and stupid and angry. So, what happened was one day Jacob saw Elena and it was like his world shifted. He had never seen anyone cuter than her. And with her blinding smile he was a goner. But Elena never gave the time of the day.

"But Jacob never back down." She paused to giggle in between. "He kept on going after Elena. He even took quite a few punches to his face and had a few minor heart attacks here and there. But he was adamant. He went on his knees to beg for Elena's attention. He would pray to the heavens above to make Elena notice him. Finally, after a long time, Elena decided to ease his suffering and gave him a chance. Jacob was very happy. So, he promised Elena that he will give her a chocolate every day. And that's that." She finished with a big smile on her face. Then her nose crunched up and she frowned.

"But yeah, Jacob never gave a her a chocolate. So, Elena might have to break up with him." She finished and Jacob realized the moment his wolf finally let go of him and he turned back.

"I'll give you a thousand chocolates. But you are not breaking up with me." He said and Elena gasped in surprise. Jacob smiled at her and she hit his chest.

"Everyone was worried about you!" she accused him but he just leaned down so that their nose touched and he looked directly into her eyes.

"I would've killed your godfather if I had caught him that time." Jacob said with a serious note.

"No, you wouldn't have." Elena said but she seemed a bit unsure.

"I would've Elena. Don't doubt that. If anyone ever tries to take you away from me, I will kill them. I mean it." He said and for Jacob, it was a truth set in stones.

"You are feeling this way because of the imprint. You were surprised Jacob; it won't happen again." Elena said in a low voice.

"You are right; it won't happen again. But it has nothing to do with imprinting. I have very strong feelings for you El, and so does my wolf. I can't let anything happen to you." Jacob said and Elena averted her gaze.

They were quiet for a while and then Elena shrieked, "You are naked! Get off me!" She pushed against Jacob's chest and he laughed.

"I know you want to look, don't you?" Jacob teased her and she turned red.

"NO! I DO NOT!" Elena covered her eyes with her hands. Jacob laughed but got up to out on his pants.

"I am decent, El." He said and she peeked behind her fingers to check. Jacob pulled her up against his chest.

"So, stubborn and hard headed huh?" Jacob asked.

"It's true though." Elena said. Jacob shook his head and bend down to take in her lips. She stiffened for a second but then she kissed him back. He held the back of her neck and her waist in a tight hold. Jacob loves kissing Elena. Everything in his life felt right when he had her this close. Elena opened her mouth and he wasted no time. He touched her tongue with his which resulted in her hold tightening on his shoulders. Jacob felt Elena go on her toes to kiss him back and both Jacob and his wolf felt emotion of immense satisfaction.

"Prayed to the heavens?" He snickered.

"More or else. I've got you wrapped around my little finger." She said sighing, dramatically.

Jacob chuckled shaking his head.

"But seriously Jacob, there are people who care about you. Don't scare them like this." Elena said.

"Well, I care about you too." Jacob said making Elena shake her head.

"I am not always going to be there." Elena whispered but Jacob heard it clearly.

"What the hell does that mean?" Jacob's voice was hard.

"Duh! I may be busy somewhere or maybe be in a class. I can't always come to you." She said but her voice was void of the energy she had a few moments ago.

Jacob smiled softly at her. "Then I'll come to you. Always."

That was what Elena feared the most.

"I can keep you company if you'd like." Jacob said and Elena rolled my eyes.

"Of course, you'd keep me company while I am sleeping but thanks a lot." Elena said and Jacob smirked.

"I can be your personal heater." He offered and Elena scoffed.

"This house already has a human heater." Elena said just to irk him.

They were standing outside Joe's house. Jacob insisted on walking her there. After he calmed down, they went to Emily's to ease everyone's worry.

Jacob scowled at her and Elena shrugged him off. "I'll kick his ass if even comes near your room's door. Well on a better note, I just remembered that he has to patrol today." Jacob said already planning to call him and tell him that he'll be taking Embry's place tonight. He knew that Paul will most likely object but he didn't care. Being and Alpha had his perks.

"You are impossible." Elena said and Jacob rewarded her with his beautiful smile. Elena still wasn't used to his smiles. They did funny things to her.

"Good night." Elena said but before she could take a step away Jacob tugged at her jacket and pulled her to him.

"Where's my good night kiss?" he asked.

"Going to sleep maybe?" Elena replied and then pecked him on the cheeks. "That's all you are going to get. So have a good night." Elena mock saluted him and went inside.

Joe was already sleeping and suddenly the day's activity took a toll on her. Elena took a quick hot shower and then changed into a loose shirt. She hit bed and before she could even think about the events of today, she drifted off into a dreamless sleep. She was both physically and mentally too tired to think about anything.

Jacob made his call to Paul. And he tried to reign in his anger when he heard his sister in the background. He was still having a hard time imagining Paul with Rachel. Paul complained and said that it was not his turn to patrol but Jacob was having none of it. In the end Paul relented.

Jacob took of his clothes and turned into his wolf. He went to Elena's room's window and peered at her sleeping form. He wanted to sleep with her, having her in his arms was one of the best feelings ever. But he sensed that she needed time. And he'll give her anything that she ever wants. As long as it doesn't put her in any danger.

He looked one last time at her before he lied down below her window. His wolf was restless and he wanted to be near her. With knowing that Elena was safe, he closed his eyes and wished to have dreams filled with Elena's smiles.

Everything was so dark. So goddamn dark. I was afraid to take a step forward, not knowing what I'll touch. My arms were stretched out in front of me.

"Hello! Is anybody there?" I asked, my voice sounded hoarse. Like I had been shouting for hours.

There was no response, just endless darkness.

Fear started to creep in along with the cold. It was so damn cold.

"Elena!" I heard Jacob's voice. I turned around, trying to understand which direction it came from.

"Jacob! I am here.!" I shouted back. I started running. But I couldn't see anything. I didn't realize that tears were running down my cheeks.

"Elena!" Jacob's voice was filled with so much agony that it physically hurt me.

"God no, please not him." I chanted again and again as I ran blinded.

I clutched my hairs tightly, relishing the burning pain it brings. "Ahhh!" I groaned. I was feeling so damn helpless. My heart was beating too fast. Something really bad was going to happen.

"Please, please, please.." I kept chanting it again and again. I don't know why but I was begging for something, anything at all.

I fell down on my knees, it was like my energy was being drained out of me. I opened my eyes and this time I saw a flash of light ahead. I crawled toward it.

I heard a laughter ring out around me. Suddenly, everything was bright. No, everything around me was burning. I looked ahead and a man standing a few feet away from me.

Beautiful was a tame word for him. He looked like a god. His black hair fell to his shoulders and his eyes burned yellow. It felt like his face was sculpted by greatest artists. But it was the hollowness in his eyes that send a chill down my spine.

An evil smile masked his face. I tried to take my eyes off of him but he was too captivating. He turned his head to the side, and I saw my mom and my Patrick's wife.

"Mom!" I shouted as I started to run towards them. Mom was looking at me with a grave expression. "Mom, come here!" I shouted but she remained glued to her place. Before I could take another step, both of them were set on fire.

"NOOOOO!" I shouted as I started to run towards them again, but the distance felt never ending.

It felt like I was losing my mother all over again. I looked at the man and he was simply watching me. He looked to his left and I was almost afraid to follow his gaze. I did, and I wished I didn't.

Jacob was on his knees, he was bruised badly and was bleeding a lot.

"No, no, no." I shook my head. Not him, I thought. God, please, not him.

"Watch him burn." The man was suddenly behind me and a cold shiver ran down my back.

I looked at Jacob, who smiled at me, just before he was engulfed in fire.

His cries were dwarfed by my screams. It felt like I was burning with him. The pain felt so excruciating that I knew that I was going to lose consciousness.

I felt warm hands touch my throat. He whispered one word in my ear before I succumbed to the darkness.

"Duane"
